Is the Too Faced Natural Matte Neutral Eye Shadow Collection/Palette Right for You?

It’s about sexy time. 😉

Kind of. If you look at the names of the colors in the new Too Faced Natural Matte Neutral Eye Shadow Collection/palette, there are some that I can’t even say without blushing a little, like Sexpresso…?

Oh, my gosh.

Nudie? Risqué? Strapless?

But then they throw in the food-related ones like Honey Butter and Chocolate Cookie. There’s probably some relationship…

No, I’m not even gonna go there.

Recently released for summer 2015, Natural Matte is based on the Natural Eyes palette they released last year, except that that one had shimmers. This time around, I don’t think Too Faced was seeking to revolutionize the world of eye palettes as we know it. I think this was just meant to give Too Faced fans more matte options.

The whole matte palette trend has been big over the past couple years, and there are lots of good ones out there. This one, which comes with nine powder eyeshadows in a mix of cool and warm tones and useful beiges and browns, has a pretty appealing price. It’s $36, which doesn’t make it the most affordable matte palette out there when you consider drugstore, but I think you get a lot.

Compared to the $40 BECCA Ombre Nudes Palette, it comes with almost twice as many shades (nine vs. five).

Both palettes are good in their own way, but I think Natural Matte is better for simple looks involving one or two shadows, like a simple lid color and maybe a liner, or a lid color and something in the outer v.

Here’s also a quick video about the palette…

Ultimately, whether this is right for you depends on what kind of matte eye palette you want/need. I think these mattes are probably better for standalone looks with one or two shades than complex looks with five or six, because on the scale of matte eyeshadow blend-ability, they aren’t as easy to blend as other mattes I’ve tried. When I wear mattes on my eyes, I usually use them to either support whatever else I’m wearing on my face, or incorporate them in smokey looks.

I really like the colors themselves and that I can see the definition between them on my lids. The shadows may not be as easy to blend as some high-end mattes (which are often more expensive, too), but depending on the kinds of eye looks you like to wear, that may not be an issue.

I don’t think I need this palette. If I was going for an all matte palette I’d go with the one from Tarte. But the shades do look great on you and seem to be very well blended!

Meh *shoulder shrug* I swatched this one last weekend and, nope, it wasn’t made for me. Which leaves me kinda bummed bc I’ve been reaLLy looking forward to this one. The hunt for the perfect brown girl friendly all matte palette continues. In other news, here’s hoping my allergies improve soon or I won’t be rocking makeup for a while. Seriously! Throat itching, nose itching, sneezing, nose blowing….does not complement my makeup. Me thinks I might be allergic to the entire East Coast

I have the Tarte Tartelette, so I think I’ll pass on this. The shades in the Too Faced palette are pretty, but I don’t think I wear mattes enough o justify this one, too.

I’m tempted as I’m in the market for some good mattes neutrals but will want to see in person. I’m not good at applying eye shadows so need as foul prof as possible.

I really like the look you made with this palette, and I love matte shadows in general, but I’m a little worried about the blendability issues. Is it really difficult to blend them together?

The matte palette looks good but the blendability of the eye shadow is slightly worrying…

Loved the way you worked with two shades to get that amazing definition on the lids.. <3

I was planning on looking into it but now I’m hesitating… I need my eyeshadow to pretty much blend itself. Maybe I should check out LORAC instead.

I am a matte shadow lover, and I bought last year’s Too Faced Matte Palette and I haven’t even used it yet! Can you believe that? I love the shades in this one. I don’t know that I don’t already own them in some other palette so I’m on the fence. I love the soft, neutral look you created. Gorgeous as always, Karen!

I love Too Faced eye shadows and this one looks great, but I probably don’t need another nude palette 🙂

I’ve slowly been wearing down my original Too Faced Matte Eye palette (seen here: https://flic.kr/p/rzBb7a), and while it’s fine for my workday 3-shadow look, I think you’re right about there being some blending issues (I’ve tried primer/no primer, changing brushes, all of it). I like that this one tends cooler, but I plan on changing it up when I replace my ol’ trusty steed – and I think it’ll be with a Makeup Geek palette where I can choose my colors individually!

You look lovely, the eye shadow look you did is awesome!

What eyeliner did you use and is it a shade of brown or is it black?

I’m not too sure that I need this palette, and it’s not WOW enough for me break my spending ban (thanks, MAC) and go out and get it. I do think it’s one that I might keep looking at in-store, however, and even though I do have loooads of palettes, I don’t think any of them are all-matte, so that would make this a very friendly option, especially travel-wise. I’m doing my cousin’s makeup for her graduation and she’s not that much of a girly-girl, so some of these colours might work for her.
