Your Hair Has a New Secret Weapon, and It’s a Tool for Teeth

June 24th, 2015 by Karen 11 Comments

toothbrush as hair tool final

Why walk around with a misbehaving mop when your favorite dental dynamo can help? Yaaaas, girl! Toothbrushes aren’t just for cleaning teeth (or gunky lash combs) anymore. They’re also great for taming unruly stray hairs.

Here’s what you do…

  1. Grab a spare toothbrush — the stiffer the bristles, the better. Ideally, you’d want to dedicate a spare NEW one, but if you have an old one sitting around, and it doesn’t gross you out to repurpose it, go for it.
  2. Spray the bristles with your favorite firm-hold hairspray, and don’t be afraid to douse that ish!
  3. Now, gently comb the wet toothbrush through any rebellious stray hairs — much like you’d use a hair brush — to get them to obey orders and fall into place.

There are so many helpful hair things you can do with a toothbrush! I also use them to brush the stray hairs on the sides of my head after I put my hair up into a ponytail or bun (just makes everything look neater), flatten unruly baby hairs around my face, tame flyway fringe, and put the finishing touches on updos and braids. They’re very handy for that, too.

Give it a try one of these days, and I’m telling ya, those misbehaving stray hairs will be a thing of the past.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I never thought about using a toothbrush for that! I have a major frizz/flyaway problem, I’m gonna try this trick when I wear my hair in a pony or bun (I always have a ton of stray hair coming out the sides at the end of the day).

I just had a total AHA moment when you mentioned using a toothbrush to clean a lash comb! How did I make it this far without ever knowing this trick?!

I do that with gel+one of those brow comb/brush thingies that come in sets that I never use. Works like a charm!

Hah! That is genius, Karen! I have some old toothbrushes lying around, I’ll give it a try. I don’t blowdry my hair often but when I do I tend to get stubborn fly-aways.

YES, this is a great tip! Don’t forget to use it on unruly eyebrows as well! 🙂
