mac-giveaway-july-18-2015

Good morning, glory! Happy Caturday to ya. 🙂

Do you know where your kitty nephew is?

No, I’m serious, do you know where he is? Because I haven’t seen him in a while, which means he’s probably somewhere up to no good…

How’s it going this morning? Did you do anything fun last night? We just stayed in, had grilled cheese sammies and watched Fear (the SCARY one from the 1996 with Marky Mark and Reese Witherspoon).

Dang, that is a SCARY movie! I hadn’t seen in it years, and I totally forgot about M. Wahlberg’s scary psycho whisper voice…

In other news, this weekend, I don’t know what we’re up to yet. I’d like to start by getting a Meyer lemon croissant and a warm beverage for breakfast. Then I’ll consider my options. 🙂

I hope whatever you’re doing involves fun. Talk to you soon, my friend. Good luck in the giveaway.

Prize

  • One (1) MAC eGift card containing $50 sent to the winner by email (international readers, you may opt to receive $50 sent by PayPal instead).

Also, MAC is one of my favorite makeup brands! I really want to try the Fix+ that’s coconut scented (yummy)! Well, thanks for your time! I’m pumped!

That movie Fear is totally crazy! So scary – I hate the part with the dog. 🙁 Anyway, last night I stayed up watching Entourage while browsing Zara’s current sale items. Then I woke up early and ended up purchasing a few items! This time last year – I was obsessed with Urban Decay’s Cream To Powder Foundation. They discontinued them for a while, but I’m so glad they’re back! So great for summer as it gives me a really warm, bronze look.

Funny story, this time last year I wasn’t into makeup at all. I actually only started about six months ago, when I looked at myself and thought: sometimes I’m really pretty, but why don’t I look like that all the time? And then I found out that I could look like that all the time, if I put a little work into it. So I did.

My favorite item around this time last year was the hourglass ambient lighting pallet, I finally hit pan on the dim light shade, I was so obsessed with it lol, in fact it made me want to buy the blush pallet so bad but when it came out I was home on leave of absence from work injury and had no spare cash!! By the time I went back to work it was sold out on line so I went to every sephora in town until I found one haha, sadly tho the blush pallet was an overhyped item and just sits in one of my many makeup drawers untouched (: have a great weekend xxoo

Being a brown skin girl makes the bronzer search pretty tough, since most of them tend to look more like highlighters on me, lol. The only one I’ve ever tried that worked well is Covergirl Queen Collection bronzer, and it’s rare that I love a drugstore product so much. But the darkest shade is perfect for me and it just blends so well. It’s my HG!

    1) What was your favorite piece of makeup this time last year? Ahhh! So hard to remember…
    2) Who makes the best bronzers? Funny you should ask, I JUST ‘shopped my stash’ and rediscovered Milani’s Fake Tan bronzer, and literally was gasping and ‘ooooooo’ing while putting it on! That stuff is Goood!
    3) Your favorite (non-makeup) artist? Many, but I’ll go with Mucha for now. Or anyone from the 1800’s.
    4) What was the name of your elementary school? Cynthia Mann
    6) Can you do any impressions? Very occasionally. If I’ve had some alcohol…
You are darling! Thanks for your blog!! <3

My favorite piece of makeup that I bought the beginning of last year is the Dior Rosy Glow Blush. It still is my family piece of makeup. It smells lovely like roses and I love how it adjusts to the perfect pink for me. The packaging is so chic and beautiful. It is silver on top and clear on the bottom and comes in a velvety flocked black sleeve. The brush is super soft and has a shiny silver handle. It is well worth the $44 I spent on it.

I also meant to mention that I dated a guy that had a family farm. I helped harvest corn that year and got to ride in and drive a combine! It was so much fun! It is hard work though and I have so much respect for farmers.

And I can’t do any impressions, but my sister in law does one of me that is so spot on my whole family laughs about it. It is actually gross, but it’s so funny! I had the flu so bad many years ago that I was heaving every 5-10 minutes. I woke my parents, my brother, and her up. So the rest of the night every time I would heave, she would mimic me and have all of us laughing, including me. Even though I was so sick, the humor in it made me feel better.

Hmm, I think this time last year I was obsessed with some fun Maybelline color tattoo shades that were discontinued from Walgreens that my mom so kindly picked up for me! And I’m currently so obsessed with everything bronzer! Hoping to make an ulta stop at some point for my birthday this week to scout out the NYX contour palette and, of course, pick up the birthday gift. Hope you have a wonderful weekend, Karen!

I’m horrible at impressions, but my girls seem to enjoy my dramatizations of my reactions to things they’ve done to drive me crazy. lol. Last night, I also took my daugthers to the beach to look at the fire works and then we bought $15 of Gummie Bears from I’Sugar. I didn’t know Gummie Bears came in so many delicious flavors.

Hi! I’m new and going into cosmetology school this monday and i’m so nervous. I’ve been starting to slowly buy more and more makeup items this year. I literally can’t wait to start school and become licensed in makeup, hair and nails. So far this year, I’ve brought the IT Cosmetics gel eyeliner and I am in LOVE with it. I’ve also brought 2 new liquid to matte lipsticks one from Limecrime and the other from L.A. Girl Cosmetics. Both are a red shade (redblue) and I LOVE them so much. Those three items were my first big brand and I love them with all my heart. I’m seriously glad I was able to buy them.

If I can ease one life the aching,
    Or cool one pain,

    Unto his nest again,

    Happy Saturday to you,

Last night I kicked back w/ some kettle corn and watched the movie Lila & Eve. It was a pretty good ‘chickflick’ production with a great twist. Not unusual because I’ve seen a twist like this in several movies , but it was good to see it on a different level.
Today I’m still getting the last odds and ends together for my party, trying to figure out my nail design for my birthday nails and how I’m going to master this tutu I’ll be wearing during my party. I never thought hosting your own birthday would be so much work.
    On to the Q&A:

What was your favorite piece of makeup this time last year?
That would be bb cream and of course it’s my favorite this year as well.

    Who makes the best bronzers?
This is difficult because I’ve run across so many. My most used though would have to be from Milani.

    Your favorite (non-makeup) artist?
    God. His work is amazing.

What was the name of your elementary school?
The children. Not very clever but that was the name.

Have you ever helped with a harvest? What was the crop?
Never, and I doubt I ever will because there are bugs out there.

    Can you do any impressions?
I use to be able to a particular singer , but now that I’m older I no longer sound like her speaking voice.

I will say that after years of avoiding the Two Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer because I greatly dislike products that smell like food .. I finally got a sample and LOVE it. Funny enough you just made a post about it, but I’ve always heard great things about Rimmel bronzers. I want to try them soon, but I actually tend to use MAC Harmony blush (Oh hey there Unsung Hero! ;D) as a bronzer and/or contour (depends on how I feel haha!). It’s a great shade, not too orangey when applied on my fair-light skin, and doesn’t oxidize on my very oily skin. I tend to prefer a more matte bronzer because I’m so oily (I have my own natural sheen!). It’s an HG product for me now so whenever I hit pan completely I’ll purchase again.

As a teenager in Kentucky, my summer job was de-tassling hybrid corn. I would ride in a machine with other teenagers that took us down the rows of corn. We would pull the tassels off of the female corn so the male corn could pollenate the female corn. This hybrid corn was used for animal feed.

The best bronzers for me are made for cool toned skin. I’m a natural red head with very fair and freckled complexion who used to stray away from bronzers because I felt like it looks so unnatural for me to wear them. Until I found bronzers that have a blue back tone to them instead of orange! Benefits hoola bronzer tends to be my number 1 bronzer at the moment or the first thing I reach too! It was the first bronzer I found that didn’t make me look like I had make up on! But now I experiment with Bronzers similar to it. I actually loveeeeee bronzers now. For adding a slight glow to my fair skin. Or contouring or using it as eye shadow sometimes! The options are pretty endless. :))

Contest comment of the day: I don’t really have a favourite bronzer, as long as it does the job I’m good. I have tried Tarte’s Park Ave Princess and Too Faced Milk Chocolate. But I find I mostly use Annabelle’s Perfect Bronze. It’s a Canadian company but the packaging is very similar to Rimmel, so perhaps they share the same manufacturer. The Annabelle one gives a more orange/dark peach tinge which I prefer. Something about terracotta draws me in.

My favorite piece of makeup this year is hands down my Lancome Ultra 24 Hour foundation. Its available locally, comes in a great glass pump bottle, and has a medium-full, natural looking, luminous coverage. It doesn’t break me out either, which is why its my favorite. When everything else failed this sensitive, acne-prone face of mine, this foundation delivered me a nice even skin tone, which wasn’t flawless (because the foundation isnt full-full coverage), but its medium coverage does wonders.

I eat dessert first. Why you ask?
Well, dessert is the BEST part of any meal! And if you go the traditional route, you’re too full for dessert at the end.
    Whomp, whomp…
However, if you eat dessert first, then your appetizer, and then start on your entree – you’re full and you’ve started on all of your courses.
But here’s the best part! You start on your entree, but will most likely not finish it. So you box it and take it home. In a few hours when you’re hungry again, you have a meal ready to be nuked in under a minute that is delicious! 2 meals + No cooking = Winning!

I war born and raised in Mexico. The name of the [first] elementary school I went to was “Rodolfo Elias Calles.” He was a President at some point. I went there for four years.

I finished Elementary at another school downtown and a little more upscale. It was called Leona Vicario and she decided to collaborate in the independence movement after falling in love with an insurgent. She served as a messenger, helped fugitives, sent money and medicines and helped in all she could.

She was arrested in 1813 for participating in the insurgency. When she was discovered, Leona was sent to prison and all of her belongings were confiscated. She was later freed by the insurgents and escaped to Michoacan to meet Andrés Quintana Roo, who later became her husband. In 1818, she was jailed again but received a pardon with the condition that she abandoned the movement. Vicario and her husband were under vigilance until the independence movement succeeded in 1821.

Leona is the Spanish for lioness. That’s why I’ve always loved that name. “Leona”

Heheh, I like your comment suggestions!
I grew up in northern Maine so yes, I have harvested a crop! Up there we would get “harvest vacation” from school for 3 weeks in the fall to pick potatoes. You could start picking when you turned 12. I got about $0.46 per barrel. I also worked summers on an organic farm picking green beans, and on the family farm growing a little bit of everything including livestock. Good times!

Your favorite (non-makeup) artist? Umm ok if I’m not going to pick anyone super famous I would go with Bob Ross…I loved watching his show as a kid for getting painting tips and you could paint along if you wanted. He was pretty advanced, though, so for the younger crowd I remember a show called Pappy Drew It..my sister and I used to watch and draw along with him. 🙂

    Hi Karen,
I definitely cannot remember the makeup product that I most loved last summer. However, I can tell you that this summer I absolutely love the IT Cosmetics “Your Skin But Better CC Cream with SPF 50”. I love that this CC Cream is more of a full coverage CC Cream, but yet feels and looks like my natural skin. I love this CC Cream so much that I am going to see if I can get the to work on my skin during the IT Cosmetics “CC+ Cream Illumination Foundation” for Fall and Winter, when my skin needs a little more dewiness.
