Peek-a-Boo! I See Yu Wearing the New NARS True NARS Lip Pencil Set This Summer

Oh, Yu!

Yu! You know I’ve got nothing but mad love for Yu. I’m so happy to see Yu again! 🙂

Yaaaas, queen, Yu is one of my favorite NARS Satin Lip Pencils of all freakin’ time, and it just so happens to be one of the three full-size pencils in the new $49 NARS True NARS summer gift set.

nars-true-nars-2

This year there are three limited edition NARS summer gift sets — two lip sets and one blush palette — and True NARS is the boldest of the two summer lip sets.

nars-true-nars-1

Do you feel like the world is a kinder, gentler place when you’re wearing bronzer? Or is the pursuit of toasty, tanned skin one of your ongoing life goals? If you answered yes to either of those questions, then True NARS is the lip set for you, because its vivid pink Satin Lip Pencil in Yu, vivid watermelon Satin Lip Pencil in Luxembourg and matte berry red Velvet Matte Li pencil in Provocative Red were picked and put together for the way they pop when worn with bronzed skin. Wear any of them separately like I’m doing in the swatches here, or combine them to create your own custom splash of spectacular sorry-not-sorry color.

I’m familiar with Yu and Luxembourg because both are re-promotes from the permanent line, and the ones here are just as slick and saturated as ever.

With its smooth formula, Provocative Red, the brand new shade, feels just as bangin’ as the set’s other two pencils, but visually, at least compared to the other two colors, it’s more of a lower-case ka-pow!

I definitely still like it — especially for mixing with the other two shades to deepen them.

And did I mention that the pencils are full size? Yup, so you get three full-size pencils for $49, which would cost $78 if they were purchased separately, plus the limited edition carrying case (which comes with a mirror) and a pencil sharpener.

One thing, though, about the case? — the friggin’ thing is hard to open! I feel like a gorilla trying to open a dainty jewelry box, LOL! There’s something off about the latch, and I chipped my nails (twice) prying it open.

My Essie mani was not happy about that…

If you’d like to meet Yu (and I hope you do!) and her two cohorts in the new True NARS set, head on over to Nordstrom or nordstrom.com, where they’re available right now (and also at NARS boutiques starting August 1).

PRICE: $49
AVAILABILITY: Limited edition, and available now at Nordstrom stores and nordstrom.com; also coming to NARS boutiques starting August 1
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A- (beautiful colors and a great value, but dang if that case isn’t a bear to open!)

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Me too. Especially bright pinks like this one! 🙂 They’re my weakness (says the girl with 5 hot pink lipsticks in her bag, ha!).

Hope you had a nice Monday! Anything exciting to report?

I totally love hot pink. Can you believe I don’t have Girl About Town? I plan to remedy that soon when I Back2MAC a few empties. As for exciting- I plan to go swatch the Urban Decay Naked Smokey palette. I’d say that’s pretty interesting in my book. Have you played with it yet? (I can’t recall if you’ve done a post on it or not!).

Provacative Red looks super different (at least to me) from the pencil to the lip

These are so pretty, and I love the packaging. I don’t need them, though.

The Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dragon Girl is one of my all-time favorites and I have been eyeing these exact two shades in the Satin line… I’m quite sure this set won’t be available here in Italy, though (my wallet’s doing the hula!).

I need this!! Luxembourg has been on my mind since the Satin Lip Pencils came out. And Provocative Red?! Stunnnnnning. Yu would be icing on the cake!! I am N-O-T a fan of hard to open packaging, but those pencils sure are gorgeous.

I bought this set thoroughly expecting Yu to be my favorite. Well, it’s in third. Which isn’t a bad thing with a set this good. I love Yu, but Luxembourg and Provocative Red really, really, really rock my world as far as lippies go. I bought this set because you always wear Yu and I wanted to try it. So happy I got this set because I really love all the colors!

So this is how the combination was chosen. I wondered why they put thesse colors together, but as you say, they´ll all work well with bronzed skin.

I like the NARS lip pencil formulas, especially at this time of year when it’s hot and humid (and I accidentally leave lip products in my purse in the car). They don’t dry out my lips and I think they have the perfect coverage. Plus, the non-melting thing. 🙂

You’re too funny, Fancie! I’m the same way when it comes to hot pink lips.
