Neat and New to Me: MAC Springsheen Sheertone Shimmer Powder Blush

Neat and New to Me

Unlike my Unsung Heroes series, which features permanent collection products I’ve known and loved a long time, the Neat and New to Me series showcases permanent collection products that slipped under my radar for a while, but then I discovered them! — and now I think they’re neat and new to me.

I affectionately refer to MAC Sheertone Shimmer Blush in Springsheen as “strobing for lazy people.” (Like me!) 🙂

It’s a beautiful pinkish coral color with golden pearl, and I can’t be the only person who also likes the name. I keep hearing the words “Bruce Springsheen,” and then I picture the little compact with tiny arms and legs playing a guitar…

Anyway! It illuminates the apples of my cheeks with a pretty pinkish coral while the golden pearl in it makes my cheekbones softly glow.

I’m never not looking for ways to streamline my makeup routine and get out the door quicker, and that’s one of the reasons I like Springsheen, which isn’t new, but I only recently discovered it in the MAC permanent line.

My routine with it? — BB cream, powder, and then a couple layers of Springsheen on my cheeks. No need to wear a separate highlighter because Springsheen’s built-in pearl pretty much works the same way. Then I’ll do my lashes, brows and lips, either with a lipstick, or with a gloss with a hint of gold in it like MAC Nymphette, Big Baby or Nice Buzz.

The first time I swiped (Bruce) Springsheen on the back of my hand I thought, “Ooh, NARS Orgasm!” because it does look a little like that, but I think it’s more elegant. The golden pearl particles are finer and not as “in your face,” and I also just prefer the way Springsheen feels. I think it’s softer and smoother than Orgasm, and also easier to blend, methinks.

PRICE: $22

This is what orgasm should have been, especially given the cult following.
Mac Springsheen is just gorgeous. 🙂

I kind of feel that way too, Ruta. Maybe we can start the cult following, LOL!

They say orgasm is a universally flattering shade but it never looked quite right on me. I may have to check this one out. As long as it’s not too shimmery then it could be a match. Gorgeous color either way! Loving the new series too 🙂

It’s not too shimmery! I think you’ll like the pearl. 🙂

Hmmmm….how does this rank with Chanel Malice? Would you say they’re similar in color?

      Hi Cherie,

Malice is deeper and more of a pinky coral and less golden sheen. I definitely notice more of a highlight-y vibe with Springsheen.

You know, between Orgasm, Springsheen and Tom Ford Lovelust, I’d always opt for Lovelust. All three are really similar, but I find the TF most flattering on my NC20 self.

That’s a good one too, Dorit. I have it and wear it all the time. 🙂

What lip colors do you typically like to wear with that TF blush, by the way?

Hi Karen! I tend to match my lip colours to my eyeshadow more than to my blush. I wear TF LL mostly with purple eye looks or earthy colours, so I mainly wear corals like Guerlain Geneva (for the purple eye) with it (or purple lips if I’m feeling particularly adventurous). A nice clean red like MAC’s Audacious pairs nicely with the more nude eye.
Do you have any fave combos?

I think Mac Springsheen is much prettier than Nars orgasm. The latter always comes out with too much shimmer and not so much color for me somehow.

      Hi Judy,

The interesting thing about Orgasm is I think they’ve changed it over the last few years. Back in the day it used to be more color than shimmer; it seems to have gotten more shimmery as the years have gone by! Anyway, I think you’ll like this blush and hope you give it a try sometime. 🙂

I always liked the glitterbomb look of NARS but I know it’s not everyone’s thing. That said, I think Springsheen is aptly named because it does have more of a sheen than a dazzle. It’s a really pretty color. Of course, it would need to be delivered on angels’ wings for me to even consider putting Malice aside. 😉
PS I had a terrible wear time/Born to Run pun queued up but decided to spare you.

You know I would’ve still laughed anyway, girl! I love me some cheesy word play.

I’m paging the baby angels to go visit you… This blush is amaze!

P.S. Is it Friday yet?! What are you guys doing this weekend?

HAHA! I can picture the angels now! Let’s make ’em kittens, just for fun. 🙂

OMGosh, I hear you. Currently halfway through my Friday work day, thankfully. The boys have a baseball tournament but it’s pretty local (only like a 45 minute drive). We’re trying to squeeze in Ant Man. Maybe this evening. Other than that, I have to keep working on my mile time. When you’re old and lazy and have been happy with a 10 minute mile for distances short and longer, it’s a challenge getting to 8. HAHA!

They say Orgasm is universally flattering but it never really showed up on me… Springsheen, however, looks lovely.

Softer and less obvious glitter than Orgasm? I am all in. The glitter is the one thing that prevents me from using NARS too often.

Omygoodness! How pretty is this! You know, I don’t actually like Orgasm *runs & hides from the stones that will be throne my way* To me it just looks like a glitter bomb with very little color. This is gorgeous though. You wear it well 🙂
