Paul & Joe Moisturizing Foundation Primer S: Helpful Hydration With a Heavenly Scent

July 28th, 2015 by Karen 16 Comments

Paul & Joe Moisturizing Foundation Primer S in 03 Clear ($36)

According to ’80s spelling bee champion/hip-hop group J.J. Fad, the “S” is for super, and the “U” is for unique. The “P” is for perfection, and you know that we are freaks…

It’s that first part — the “S” part for super — that also applies to new $36 Paul & Joe Moisturizing Foundation Primer S, because dang if this stuff doesn’t smell super good!

It’s how I imagine it must be like to open the door to the penthouse suite of the Ritz-Carlton Paris when a cloud of Chanel Coco Mademoiselle mixed with fragrant orange flower shampoo and luxury baby powder wafts out…

Gimme a second because I need to take another sniff, aah! 🙂

One of two new face primers arriving in three shades online and at Paul & Joe counters next month, Moisturizing Foundation Primer S is the more “chillaxed” one. A liquid primer, it’s designed to moisturize, smooth pores — although not as assertively as Perfect Makeup Primer, the other new P&J primer — and prepare the skin for foundation.

With this primer, major moisturizing is the real name of the game as it contains two types of sodium hyaluronate, along with hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid, extracts of apricot and white lily, and orange flower water. For a little lustrous-ness, the formula also contains champagne pearl.

I think this is a pretty good primer, but I like it mostly for the moisture and the scent (which I love). I’d reach for it when those two things were more important to me than pore smoothing…because that’s not its strength.

Look for it next month online and at Paul & Joe counters in three shades — 01 Pink to help skin appear brighter and clearer, 02 Orange to correct uneven skin tone and 03 Clear for radiance and a luminous finish.

PRICE: $36 each, available in three shades
AVAILABILITY: Coming August to Paul & Joe counters and online

      Hi Bebe,

Aww, thanks friend! Right now I’m using a bunch of different things, I’m not super strict when it comes to products. But here are the ones that I’ve been using pretty regularly in some combination.

      Cleansers
      Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Cleanser
      Sunday Riley Charisma Creme
      MAC Cleanse Off Oil Gentle
      Bioderma

      Serums
      Clarins Double Serum
Estee Lauder Idealist Even Skintone Illuminator
      Murad Advanced Active Radiance Serum
      Fresh Black Tea Age-Dealy Serum
      Kate Somerville Countouring Eye Serum

      Moisturizers
      Clarins Multi-Acive Day Cream
      Estee Lauder DayWear SPF 15
Murad Essential-C Daily Moisturizer SPF 30

      To keep the pimples away!
Kate Somerville Anti Bac Acne Clearing Lotion (this is my holy grail; I use it EVERY day)
      Kate Somerville DermalQuench Clear

I know it looks intense, but I don’t use them all at the same time, LOL. Let me know if you have any questions!

Oops! Orange flower water so high up on the ingredient list? That is bad news 🙁 No wonder it smells so yummy though. And the bottle looks super cute of course.

Not sure this would be the right primer for me, but I would love to give it a sniff. The scent sounds divine!

I had some serious dryness issues a few weeks ago that made my foundation look awful whatever I tried to do. This would have helped so much at that time!

      Hi Lulle,

When my skin is very dry what I like to do before applying foundation is to wet my face with a bit of Fix+ and then apply a rich moisturizer. While the skin is still damp, then I’ll apply foundation. For some reason this seems to help whatever I’m using look smoother on top of dry skin. Works like a charm!

Nice looking primer, but I’m not sure if it’ll work well on me (combo skin here). Man, taking it back with the J.J. Fad though! I used to know the fast part at the end of the song real well. Now, not so much. 😛

LOL, Rhia! I try to do the ending part but always end up faking it. Back in the day my friends and I did dance routine to Supersonic. Haha! So cheesy.

I’m with the other gals, I’d love to smell it. The way you’ve described it, the scent sounds like heaven. I don’t have big pores but I do have lines and I’m afraid it doesn’t have the silicone I need

      Hi Allison,

Ahh, I just pumped a little on the back of my hand to give it another sniff. I’ve heard that Paul & Joe pops up at Urban Outfitters sometimes, so if there’s one by you it might be worth checking out. 🙂

      Happy Tuesday!

I can’t decide which made me laugh harder–the Supersonic video (yes, I remember that song!) or the fabulous duo picture of you and Lady Gaga for the Too Faced foundation review. LOL! Thanks for the giggles. 🙂

I’m still grinning over the Supersonic reference, particularly since I can’t remember yesterday but I could finish off the E is for Exotic and the R is for Rrrrraps. Ah, good times. 🙂 I see if P&J doesn’t hook us with their cute packaging, they’re going to do it with amazing fragrance. It sounds divine!

Hmmm, not sure about this. The scent sounds nice but it might be irritating.
