Bring Your Foundation Up Into Your Hairline So It Doesn’t Look Super Obvs

Are you wearing foundation, or is that a kabuki mask?

Or, who’s that guy who wore the scary white hockey mask in those slasher movies? Was it Jason Voorhees??

Ah, the dreaded line of makeup demarcation…

Well, this is one of those things you may not think of straight off the bat (I sure didn’t), but when you realize that you’re not doing it, you’re like, “Oh! How did I not think of that?”

I don’t know how it is for you, but when I first started applying foundation, I would stop right before my hairline because, I figured, well, that’s the edge of my skin…so that’s fine, but then when I saw myself in pictures, there would be a distinct line of demarcation between where my foundation stopped, and my hairline began, and it looked like I was wearing a mask.

Luckily, there’s an easy fix. All you have to do is gently drag product up into your hairline with your foundation brush or BeautyBlender sponge.

And not just at the top of your forehead, but also along the sides of your face, slightly up onto your ear (some people even cover the whole ear), and some people also like to wrap their foundation under their chin and jawline and/or down their neck.

Also, at the end of the day when you’re removing your makeup, remember to wash up into your hairline, because you don’t want to leave product up in there where it could cause a breakout, or any of that yucky stuff.

I’ve done that before, and yeah…not fun.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Is it just me or could anyone else totally hear Karen say ‘suuuper obvs’ when reading that title?? 🙂

Now that I use foundation again I try avoid the mask look by doing exactly this, great tip.

Hi Karen! Fortunately I had a makeup artist teach me how to apply foundation before I started wearing it, so I’ve been doing this since I started wearing makeup! I forget to tell people that, though, because I’m so used to it, but I guess not everyone thinks of it!

I always do that when I apply foundation with a brush. It’s a little trickier when I apply it with my fingers!
I remember that one time I had a makeover at a MAC store… the MUA did an amazing job on my eyes, but she chose a foundation at least 2 shades too dark. So I looked super tanned… with white ears popping out the sides! It was kind of ridiculous, lol.

You are SO BEAUTIFUL! I find it so funny how makeup can really age us sometimes, yet there are ways to use makeup to look much more youthful! Whatever look you create is of course always elegant and beautiful, but I just love how youthful you look here!

Sometimes it is the simplest things we need to be reminded of. Thank you for always doing that.
