Come With Me on My Walk!

August 26th, 2015 by Karen 25 Comments

This walk takes about an hour, and we go about three or four miles.

My favorite time to go is about an hour before the sun sets, because that’s primo critter time, also known as “the best time to spot deer,” although the only critters I saw today were a standoffish tuxedo cat and one very handsome quail.

Let’s go!

Novato is a beautiful town right next to Wine Country, and there are lots of fruit trees and interesting plants, like apples and pears and pomegranates, and sometimes they even grow right along the sidewalk.

Technically, these delicious-looking noms belong to other people, so I haven’t picked one yet…but I AM SERIOUSLY TEMPTED TO EVERY TIME.

I don’t know how much longer I can resist…

Watch out! That’s poison oak. There’s a lot of it in this area…

You know what they say: “Leaves of three, let it be!”

And that’s the very edge of the San Francisco Bay way off there in the distance…

I hope you had fun. Thanks for coming with me on my walk. 🙂

Karen

Such a fun post, thank you for taking me for a walk! Novato looks so beautiful!

Btw, a few days ago I was interpreting for a Polish person living in Novato, it made me think of you!

What a lovely route! Sorry you didn’t have more wildlife sightings but there’s always tomorrow. 🙂

It looks like it’s starting to cool down in Novato, too. We’re dipping into the 70s, which I guess is to be expected with Labor Day right around the corner. Fall colors, here we come!

Beautiful walk. I haven’t gone on a walk all summer because it’s been too hot. But that should change soon as the season changes. For now, it’s walking/running on the treadmill 🙂

Pick a piece of fruit! I bet it’s one less piece that will fall on the ground!!!!!!

p.s. how good are you to walk everyday for an hour. I’ve really got to step up my movement. I’m getting in like a ten minute walk in the morning to get coffee and then sporadic yoga during the week. And let me tell you, by calling it sporadic this summer is being generous.

Thanks for the tour, it’s lovely 🙂

Pretty! My mom was in Novato last year for a wedding that was in Napa. We actually used to live in Vacaville back in ’88-’94! I love NorCal!

I love Novato, so much I got married there in 2003. The wedding was amazing but the relationship wasn’t. I still hold the place in my heart, though.

Leaves of three let it be. If it’s shiny watch your hiney. If it’s hairy, it’s a berry. Those are the rhymes my daughter learned on a nature hike when she was young.
    You have a beautiful walk!
In the neighborhood I lived in when I first got married one yard had a huge, spreading, 30 foot, mission fig tree. With loads of fruit! One day my friend and I knocked on their door and asked if we could buy some of the ripe fruit. The owner handed us paper shopping bags from the grocery store and told us to take as much as we wanted because there was so much. So I’m sure if you knocked on the doors and asked first, you might be able to get some fruit.

Beautiful city! Looks like a beautiful evening too!

Those fruits look yummy! As a kid we used to pilfer the neighbor’s raspberry bushes by the handful. I remember her coming over to confront my Dad about it, and when he asked us about it in front of her we blamed the dog (I’m sure with very guilty looks on our faces). He told our neighbor he would be sure to keep our dog out of her yard. She gave us the stink-eye, but left. It sort of scared me away from stealing fruit from then on out, I suppose it hadn’t occurred to me that fruit growing outside “belonged” to anyone at that point!

What a beautiful walking route! I live right next to a park so I also have nice paths to walk or run on, but it’s more of an urban environment.

Thank you, I really needed a walk today. I tried to do one with my daughter but we usually don’t get far, there is just so much to see and do that she covers 200 m in one hour approximately.

So pretty! I’d say totally bring a bag next time, if they’re going to let trees grow over and into public areas, go for it! 😉 Makes me miss my old place, I had the perfect 2 mile loop around a lake and park right from my front door. Now I have to drive to get out of suburbia. 🙂

What a beautiful area! I love California. Living in a very urban area on the east coast, walking is just not that safe or enjoyable. Have to go out of town for that.

Delurking finally to say thanks for taking us on your walk. I really enjoyed all the pictures.

Regarding fruit trees, check your local laws. I know some laws will allow picking fruit if the branch is hanging over the fence or you may have it if it’s on the ground. Anyway, you never know.

    i love your neighborhood.

why not just knock and ask if you can harvest 1-2 fruits. i’ve done that before, and they’re almost always glad someone is taking the fruits of their hands.
