MAC giveaway

Rise and shine, morning glory! There’s magic in the air… Can you feel it? It’s making the hair on my arms stand up. 🙂

Whatever you’re up to this weekend, I hope you’re having fun. I know you’re probably busy, too, and have some chores to do, but it’s important that you also take a little time for yourself. You need to recharge those batteries, my friend.

I have yet to figure out my plan for the day, but I anticipate a good breakfast (or brunch!) and a trip to the mall.

Good luck in the giveaway, and I’ll talk to you soon.

Prize

  • One (1) MAC eGift card containing $50 sent to the winner by email (international readers, you may opt to receive $50 sent by PayPal instead).

    “Easy Breezy beautiful cover girl!”

If you could replace any piece of furniture in your house, what would it be?
Dining chairs – the cats have had too much fun with the fabric haha

    Have you ever arm-wrestled? Yes….not since childhood…pretty sure I always lost…

What was your last makeup or skin care “Eureka!” moment?
I recently realized the difference a beauty blender can make to foundation application.

Have you ever seen anyone shoplift before?
Yes, I used to work in a clothing store so I’ve seen all the creative and not so creative ways people attempt to steal!

Have you ever ordered makeup or skin care from a company overseas?
Yep, I’ve ordered from Ireland and South Africa before.

I tried ordering from Sleek Makeup in the UK, but the order got lost in transit. It was difficult getting my money back from them. I had to go to my credit card company and everything. Plus they had the worst customer service, never replying to emails, sending the same boxed answer every time, it was bad. But I’ve ordered lots successfully otherwise.

My skin care Eureka moment was learning that less is more when it comes to using new products. After years of constantly trying new products to improve my skin, I found its better for me to not change routines too often. I like to give my skin time, may be a month or so, to adjust to the new product I’m using.

Recently read about a flower water similar to rosewater that Indian women use as a tonic: kewra water. I was obsessed looking for it online, eBay and so on. Surprised to find it in the international section of the supermarket! Finally! Tried it out and was disappointed to find the natural scent smelled like plastic. Oh well, funny how a beauty obsession gets squashed!?

My last skin care eureka! moment was with a glorious face exfoliating cream from Oil of Olay. I have very sensitive skin, but this product kept my face clean, smooth, and very healthy….. Then they discontinued it like they tend to do with their exfoliating products. I bought every one I could find, but eventually ran out. Haven’t found anything to replace it. I’m still bitter.

As far as Overseas purchases, I have purchased some Rae Morris brushes and a Suqqu cheek brush which I adore. I know the suggestion was cosmetics or skincare. So, I had a short time where I was trying Omrovicza skincare. Very expensive and really I gave it abut 6 mos and was getting ready to place a second order and had a Eureka moment! IMO, you can find stuff just as good in the middle price range. 🙂

I can’t think of any makeup jingles off the top of my head, but after the week I’ve had I’m surprised I still remember my own name! If I could replace one piece of furniture in my house it would be my leather sectional. We got it from a family member and it’s way too large for our small apartment, plus it’s black leather and we live in the valley where summers are 100+ degrees! I long for a nice, comfortable, breathable couch that moves through seasons effortlessly. ?

I’ve seen someone shoplift twice at the drug store. They were stealing cold medicine. The first time, it was a group of older teens and they weren’t even trying to be sneaky about it. I kept turning around to stare, because they were opening the packages and putting the pills into a paper bag. I told the clerk, and they pointed to a camera above and said “we know all about it.”

Today is laundry day and I woke to a healthy helping of corn and cheese. Okay they were Cheetos puffs , but whose complaining – it’s Saturday. Other than lounging around in my house appropriate maxi dress and tidying up here and there I’m going to watch the movie Focus w/ Will Smith. It suppose to be some type of suspense/comedy. I’m not even quite sure how they work together, but we’ll see.

    Enjoy your weekend. 🙂

Without looking them up online, can you remember any makeup company jingles or slogans?

A: I can only remember: “Maybe it’s Maybelline”

If you could replace any piece of furniture in your house, what would it be?

A: Definitely my refrigerator. I’ve been looking for a new one for a while just not sure which one I want to get just yet.

    Have you ever arm-wrestled?

A: Yes , but I’ve got small hands and short arms so I usually lose.

What was your last makeup or skin care “Eureka!” moment?

A: When I found these new lashes and now I wont wear any others because they look amazing on me.

Have you ever seen anyone shoplift before?

A: Yes I have and they were caught.

Have you ever ordered makeup or skin care from a company overseas?

A: When I first started ordering those eyeshadow palettes with all of the colors I would get them from Ebay and they’d usually be from overseas.

    Hello!!
-If you could replace any piece of furniture in your house, what would it be?
It would be my desk in the bedroom, I’m searching for a useful dresser to put my all makeup and beauty staff.

-Have you ever ordered makeup or skin care from a company overseas?
I love to try new makeup products so I order online a lot. I live in Turkey, I’ve ordered from UK and USA so many times. My favorite brands are Fyrinnae, Sleek, Sigma and Anastasia Beverlyhills.

I’m not sure if it’s really a “eureka” moment but I never really understood eyeshadows that werent really obvious (hot pink, purple, blue, etc), but enough tutorials and it finally clicked that dude all those brown shades in palettes really are useful! And it makes all those bright colors wayyyy more cohesive.

    Happy weekend Karen & company!
    I can fell it!
The 1st logo/slogan/motto that came to mind was UD’s “Beauty with an Edge”, maybe their advertising (emails) has subliminals in them…or maybe I have just read one too many a UD package…
2nd would be Maybelline’s “Maybe she’s born with it, etc.”, but that’s from television so it doesn’t really count as much as the non-televised beauty brands—if I were handing out points or cookies to myself lol
& wow, I really think that’s all my brain can muster up… MAC doesn’t really have one other than spelling out their abbreviation, rt? “Back 2 MAC” is when you bring empties in…or could it be a new motto too?? Idk! “Makeup for professionals” sounds so cocky lol, more along the lines of MUFE (I feel like that is MUFE’s?).. Ok, you didn’t say to guess at them lol! & I’m pretty sure that’s all I have at this moment… I wonder how I did. I can’t wait to read through the other comments now lol!
Ty for doing this for us! & have a good mall trip!
    * I hope you dug The Martian!

So yes, I ordered a too faced pallet from eBay which they SWORE was real. Of course it wasn’t. Then the guy tried to bargain w me. He told me if I gave him a good report, I would get my money back. Yeah right! So I reported them to eBay. Emailed to check up on it. No email back. No money back. Never again! Never used the palette. I don’t want to risk it. They don’t have the same standards in other countries and I didn’t want to risk putting someone on my face (much less my eyes!) and it having lead or something else in it. I will only buy from the trusted retailers! How about you?

I have crazy oily skin and have had such a hard time finding a primer that controlled oil, kept my makeup in place, and making it go on more smoothly. Silicone primers really help with the latters, but not at all with the former. I’ve been using one by Black Radiance for a few years, and it does really help with the oil, but it it’s more of a lotiony texture, so my makeup doesn’t really go on any better and when the oil does break through, my makeup just disintegrates. A couple months ago, I got a small sample of a MAC primer that had a really silicone feel to it, so I decided to slap it over the Black Radiance one and see what happened. EUREKA!!! My makeup goes on smooth, stays all day, and even when the oil starts peeking through on my nose and forehead, it doesn’t instantly dissolve! Now I’m using every silicone-based primer sample I have to see which works best!

My makeup “aha” moment was finding out from a salesperson at a cosmetics counter that I was using a foundation too light for my skin tone. I’m pretty pale, but the color I was using was washing me out. A slightly darker shade was much better. Not too exciting, but it is good to get a second opinion every now and then!

She was a little confused of how everything goes on and in what order (primer, foundation…etc), so tomorrow I’m going over the parent’s house and we will play with her makeup.

Since I live in Australia, most makeup brands I’m interested in are from overseas… and cost a great deal more here sadly.

I’d like to replace my sofa – we have 2 old, mismatched (and not in the shabby chic way!) They’re comfy and not hideously broken or anything, but they are a bit the worse for wear. I’d love to have sofas that match my house’s decor and each other. My lounge room rug def needs replacing too. But it was just a cheapie from Ikea.

The only makeup jingle that comes to mind is of course the Maybelline jingle “Maybe she’s born with it, or maybe it’s Maybelline!” Lol I remember singing that over and over whenI was like 9 years old! Lol

And if I could replace any of my furniture right now, it would be my bed! I would exchange my queen for a nice Tempurpedic(sp?) California King since this Queen is just not big enough for me, my wonderful hubby, our sneaky 4 yr old that always sneaks into bed with us at like 4am, and then our 3 doggies that think they are all human and not dogs bc we truly spoil the heck out of them. But as they are all rescues, I think they deserve to spend the rest of their days lying on couches, getting freebies, and snuggling us in bed! But a bigger bed is definitely needed! Lol

My last makeup eureka moment was when I watched a youtube video (i can’t recall who it was!) that explained that if your skin has a yellow undertone, then cooler pink blushes would look better on you (and vice versa). I always thought orange and peach blushes would work on my warm skin and I keep on buying different shades looking for the perfect one but it never works! I always find myself picking up this one cool blue-ish pink blush I’ve had for years. Feels so counter-intuitive, but I’m now convinced it’s true.

Funny how mention the shoplifting. I’m a sales associate at a local department store, and just recently a young girl came in to do exactly that. Get this though, her MOM was her accomplice. She was biting off the tags of a juicy couture bag in the jean rack thinking she wasn’t being seen on camera. Oh boy did she have a surprise when she came out of the store with $500 worth of merchandise stuffed in the bag only to find that while she would try to make her “getaway” in the car with her mom, that four cop cars were waiting around the corner to pull up and have them arrested. I guess shoplifting ran in the family…

I’ve ordered a few makeup items from overseas from the Illamasqua website several years back before it was briefly available at Sephora. It took a few weeks to arrive, the mascara and liner were dried out and awful and it was a big ordeal to return them because in England they normally don’t except returns on makeup. They only gave me a partial refund (better than nothing I know). I still love some things from the company and may order from overseas companies again in the future but only if it’s a must have that I absolutely positively can’t get here. ❤️U?

I’ve ordered plenty of makeup brushes from overseas — from Japan. I use a forwarding company or personal shopper since many manufacturers don’t ship internationally. But jumping through the extra hoops just makes each hand-crafted brush that much more special.

If I could replace any piece of furniture in my home it would be my sons bed. Not as exotic as getting a new zebra striped couch or a fancy recliner, but my baby boy has long outgrown his toddler bed and is in desperate need of a twin size bed. If I could get him a new bed, I would, but as a result of being chronically ill- my income is gastly low. I’m keeping my eye out for a furniture contest though, and by golly, I’m gonna win it! 🙂 On a quasi related subject, as a result of stress and sleep difficulty, I frequently have dark bags under my eyes. Well, one day my son came into the bathroom while I was putting on some makeup and I was distracted for about a minute. This led to my most recent makeup revelation. I had liquid foundation on my finger which sat there for that minute and when I put it on, it had oxidized a bit and acted more like a concealer than a foundation and covered up my dark circles beautifully!!

“Because you’re worth it” and “Maybe she’s born with it. Maybe it’s Maybelline” are the two jingles that I remember!

I recently purchased the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation (I’m in the UK) and it is le-gend-ary. Does that count as a eureka moment?

Thanks for having this contest! It’s exciting!

Probably our couch. We spent a TON on it and it’s starting to show some wear and tear.

I’d love to replace our couch. Funny enough I’d probably buy the same one again. I still love it, but it’s over ten years old and looking pretty worn out.

I love to arm wrestle and it’s always amusing seeing people’s shocked expressions when they realise how deceivingly strong I am as I’m a really petite girl.

Ohh, you are showing the Enchanted Eve products! I try not to be lemming but I MUST HAVE those purple lipstick bullets! I want to buy oodles of them even if the colors don’t suit me so I can swap out my other favorite lipsticks into them. I don’t know why I love plain color bullets as much as I do. I loved the Archie’s and Alluring Aquatics designs, but other than those my favorite lipstick bullets are the plain ones, like the Sci-Fi collection (orange) and the Moonbathe collection (white). I’ve never been a girly-girl but I’m a complete sucker for a deep jewel-toned purple! I can’t wait for these to come out 🙂

I routinely order cosmetics from a couple of Korean companies…the products are outstanding and usually less expensive than comparable products here. The only drawback is the shipping time, but these companies are also pretty generous with throwing samples in, so it’;s worth it.

Whoops, that would be “Magic of the Night” lipsticks up there. The only thing I don’t care for with MAC’s massive holiday collections is keeping the the names of the different parts straight, LOL.

Also…the only makeup jingle I ever remember is “maybe it’s Maybelline.” I am dying to get a mid century modern dining set. And I once ordered from Sleek Cosmetics (UK) and it was a great transaction!

I remember the “Maybe it’s Maybelline” jingle but I also remember “Easy, Breezy, Beautiful Covergirl. I think the first piece of furniture I would replace in my house is our dining table because it was a hand me down and I would love something that reflected my personal taste.

I actually have seen someone shoplifting at Target and it was crazy because she had a bunch of stuff in a shopping cart and tried walking out with it, yes girl!! she tried walking out with the shopping cart filled with stuff and not paying one single item because she had no shopping bags in the cart. It was actually a scary moment, because I was walking out and I all of a sudden I hear a big thump, and someone yell the words “don’t even try it”, I turn around and the loss prevention men are practically tackling the woman down. It was so crazy!

Karen! Hello. hope your weekend treated you well! i had work on saturday, and it was THE BEST shift, EVERRRRRRR! i was “stuck” in the back, just organizing and processing clothes and accessories, from the go-backs. it was great because things were getting organized, and i didn’t have to deal with the chaos of people being people. LoL.

thanks for the giveaway potential! 😀

We live in the middle of a construction zone, but today when nobody was working we walked down the road for an hour or so and looked at what was going on.

My sister is constantly singing commercial jingles, but then she starts changing the words. For instance, “Easy, breezy, beautiful, Cover-squirrel” or “Maybe she’s barn with it, maybe it’s Neigh-belline”.

I have been buying the palest lightest makeup I could find for years, always describing myself as “butt white” I finally went to a makeup store and was told that I was more of a medium or beige! I look my less “casper-esque” now!

My last beauty “eureka!” moment was when I figured out how to line my lips! I have huge lips, BUT i hate how pointy my cupid’s bow is and how low it dips In the middle, some people like that kind of look but I hate it! Now I know how to round out my pointy Cupid’s bow and it suits my face SO much better

For the past 2 years, I’ve ordered generic Latisse (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution) from an Indian pharmaceutical company. No problems at all, and my lashes are super long, although it hasn’t thickened them up as much as I’d like, so I’m glad I don’t spend $150/month on it!

My Beauty “Eureka!” moment recently: the green Smashbox primer really does tone down the red in my skin. And I’m starting to play a little with contouring- this always made me nervous and seemed like it’d look too heavy.
