UM…OK! Twist my arm, why don’t ya, and force me against my shoe-loving will to try on this pair of $69.95 Bare Traps Saydie Wedge Booties!
I give up. I’ll do it. 🙂
Did I mention that I finally found a mommy’s group to meet with here in Novato? Yup, thank you, interwebz! I found them online last week, just in time to attend their latest monthly get-together. It was at my local “safe place” (LOL!) DSW, directly inside the store. There were moms, noms, drinks, chit-chat and — WOOT-WOOT! — the store even gave the members of the group a 20% discount on everything.
So I got to talk to some new moms and a couple of pregnant women, too. It felt good to have some in-person pregnant interaction.
Of course, while I there I also picked up this pair of boots…
Yes, instead of buying something practical, like a nursing bra, I buy shoes. ? In my defense, though, the label said they’re “Like a spa for your feet!”
And I’ve really needed something like that.
My feet have been sore and swollen lately, and I’ve gone up half a shoe size. By the end of the day, they feel massive! Like two extra long, extra chubby flippers attached to my ankles.
These Saydie Booties by Bear Traps are my new favorite feet-related things in the whole wide world. They look like flats from afar, but there’s a hidden 1-1/2″ heel, which is great if you need a little extra arch support (like moi). Bear Traps also gave them a plush fabric liner, so they’re super soft and warm.
I wore them around town last weekend, and they were comfy right out of the box. No need to break them in.
If you’re interested, they also come in black, as well as dark grayish brown, and all three are available online.
While I was at DSW, since I was already there, I also grabbed this six-pack of Katie and Kelly socks ($11). I fear for their safety, because I live with a sock monster that always hides my socks…
On the scale of sock awesomeness…eh, they’re OK. They’re kind of thin and inconsistent. One or two of the pairs are tighter than the others, so I won’t be heartbroken when the sock monster eats them for dinner.
Have you bumped into any cute shoes lately? Any bad-@ss boot sightings I should know about? This crazy shoe lady needs to know. 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Omg these are so cute! I love Bear Traps, always so comfy! It’s heading into summer here & I probably won’t be needing any boots for a while, but these babies are sure tempting me!
I recently had to get orthotics for my bad ankle & high arches, an I’ve been checking out some cute red sneakers from a specialty Aussie shoe brand called Frankie4.

I heard at Nordies you pay less than $20 to have a regular bra converted to a nursing bra. The regular nursing bras look so utilitarian! Xx
Karen says
You might’ve read about that here, Divina, LOL! I mentioned it last week, I think. They charge $16 to convert bras that you’ve purchased at Nordstrom to nursing bras.
Divina says
You’re right I am sure! I can’t even remember what I did yesterday.

Cute booties, 10/10 would wear! 🙂
Lauren says
I do love these. What did you wear them with? Comfy shoes at this point are more of a necessity than a nursing bra…did you ever see the pic of Kim K during her 1st pregnancy wearing strappy, clear heels? 1st time I’ve ever felt sorry for her! 😉
Karen says
Hi Lauren,
So far I’ve worn them with leggings and a plaid shirt. I think they’d also be cute with tights and a sweater dress, or leggings and a slouchy sweater and/or a button up chambray shirt. A pair of boyfriend jeans that are cuffed would be cute too; I’d wear that with a more fitted top. Lots of possibilities!
Mary says
Ooooo, they are so cute, loving the grey ones & yes DSW happens to be one of my favorite shops. Tks for the info on how you wore them, I’d be grabbing my leggings too. So glad you found a support group, & OMG, meeting in such fab locations!

No shoe recommendations, but after pregnancy my feet stayed about half a size larger. I read this happens a lot to first time moms, and it is a bummer, because I now have a couple of fancy (and expensive) heels that just don’t fit anymore.

I’ve owned a pair of Bare traps boots for about 5 years, and they are still holding up nicely. I wear them when it starts getting cold out, and don’t really take them off until it’s spring. Lol I love them. They are really nice in the snow, keep feet warm and dry. Probably my favorite shoe purchase I’ve ever made.
Karen says
Good to know that they last, Macy! I’m looking forward to wearing this pair for a few seasons. 🙂
yelena says
gah! I want them but can’t decide between brown and grey!:D
What made you choose the brown over the other colors Karen?
Karen says
Hi Yelena,
I have a pair of black booties and since I already have a lot of gray in my wardrobe (because of Tabs, LOL!), I figured I could use a different shade on my feet. I also liked the warmth of the brown; I don’t have a pair in that color yet.
Hope you get a pair, they’re great!
yelena says
Thank you Karen! I will have to make a decision soon and order online (they aren’t available in my nearby store).
Yelena says
Hey Karen! just want to let you know I got a pair in brown and I love them I just got back from a trip to New York and I wore them for two days straight and walked what felt like over 200 miles (im exaggerating) and I only started to feel some discomfort on day 2 (probably because my feet were tired and my socks were too thick). But you were right no breaking in needed! Just buy and go with these! i even had to run a few blocks to catch q train and it was painfree which is a first for me! Cannot I wait to get another pair so thanks for the recommendation! Please let us know what other comfy shoe findings you have!

… And, I heard that DSW won’t be open on Thanksgiving and not until 7am on Black Friday, in which case they are a store I want to [continue to] support. Those look lovely. Wish I had some disposable income for shoes.

I’m glad you found a group of Mommy’s to be and it came with a 20% discount at DSW! That’s one heck of a deal! I love shoes second to beauty goodies! Those are cute booties Karen. I could use some in Black. I like the flat heel. All my black booties that aren’t a mess have a heel of some sort. I think I can’t drop the cash right now with Christmas though. Maybe, I’ll add it to my Christmas to me wish list. 🙂

I never made it to DSW last weekend. Maybe this weekend…since it’s right by Ulta. I still think these boots are perfect!
I am so glad you found a mommy group to hang out with. How often are their meetings?
Karen says
Might as well if you’re going to be nearby. You never know if you’ll find something cute, plus if you have a reward card you might want to check your mail; I got a $10 coupon for boots a couple weeks back!
The mom’s group meets once a month for a big gathering, and then there are smaller sub-groups that meet here and there. 🙂 I met a couple of girls who seemed really cool to hang out with.

Karen, let me tell you s secret for swelling feet…BIRKENSTOCKS. They are they love of my feet life. Especially ones that are the soft footbed variety. It’s like a freaking cloud of comfort and my feet are a half size different (broke the left one when i was 13) so the adjustable straps are the best thing ever because when my left foot swells after walking too much, it is perfect to give it some relief. And they have come a long way with making some more feminine styles!!
Karen says
Hi Lauren,
Ya know, I’ve never owned a pair, but I just might give them a go. 🙂 Is there are particular style that you like?
Lauren Sutherland says
I have the soft footbed in the “Florida” or “Orlando” style, and love them! I like that the straps are skinnier than the original ones. I’m also eyeing the “Grenada” style because they seem like ones i’d wear in the summer with sundresses. They seem like they put out different collections every few months because my floridas are in a bright fun turquoise that isn’t carried anymore unfortunately. I have to note that I have a pair with the nubuck leather (like a super soft suede leather) and a pair with the oiled leather and the nubuck is much easier to break in. Hope that helps!

It is amazing where you can find peer groups these days. I have a few “menopausal ladies” I met looking for bras of all things. Those boots are right up my alley (not too much of a heel) and I love the brown. I have so much black in the shoe department. I remember the feet swelling and boobs growing during pregnancy. It’ll subside once the baby arrives. I gained a total of 27 pounds when I was pregnant and lost most of it once I started nursing. My feet have been the same size since 8th grade. Relax and just go with it. It all is for the good!
Tatiana says
Those are really cute boots! I’ve never seen that brand anywhere before. If they’re comfy too, that’s even better. My shoe size never went back down after my pregnancy and I ended up gradually replacing all the shoes in my closet. And that was a lot of shoes. Still is. Much to the Dear Husband’s chagrin.
So glad you found a mommy group! It’s really nice to have other women to chat with, especially when you share a common experience. Guys just don’t get it.
Last week I had my makeup done for my birthday at my local Tom Ford counter and the lovely makeup artist was wearing a variation on these bad boys. http://www.calvinklein.com/shop/en/ck/shoes-accessories/womens-shoes/81306056
The leather on her version was smooth and the zipper seemed a bit chunkier or maybe just shinier. But I really just wanted to steal them from her, right then and there. Would order a pair for myself, but since I’m really short I’m not sure how the over the knee style would look on me.
Enjoy those comfy booties.
Erin says
I’m digging the grey pair! Have you tried any of their other styles?

Cute booties! I have so many boots but for some reason I want a bootie with an open toe . How convenient that you found a Mom’s group that meets a DSW, lol. I know how much you like that store, super cool you get a discount too! I’ve that some women go up a shoe size during pregnancy. Kids change us women in so many ways!
Kwmechelle says
First of all, bootie, bootie, bootie, bootie, BOOTIE! Lame, I know. But I couldn’t resist ?. I’m in the market for a pair of boots (not booties) but these are so darn cute. I may just try on a pair. So, so happy about the preggers group. Who knows? You may find a friend or two that you’ll keep for a lifetime. And you might find play dates for baby girl MBB. I’d say you scored major points in all departments. Have a mah-velous day, darling. Oh, before I forget. My Colour Pop & Coloured Raine order came in the mail today. I got a liquid lippie in Soul from CR. Lemme just say, I’m rockin’ the H-E-double hockey sticks outta this lippie. And I didn’t think I could pull it off. You must look it up! Must! ☺️

I saw the lining and I knew I just needed these shoes in my life. I bought the black ones because I have a lot of brown shoes already.
TrippyPixie says
I’m doing pre-student teaching and am on my feet all day, so I needed a professional but comfortable shoe. I bought the Abella Lindy Flat from DSW, and they are so ridiculously comfy! They’ve got a small heel, too, and also come in a wide width. I love them so much that I want to buy a backup pair.
Kim says
I’m so happy you found a group you like (and it meets in one of your fave stores, of all things)! It doesn’t happen to everyone but my feet were 7.5 before I was pregnant and they’re 8.5 now. Sometimes 9, depending on the shoe and what socks I’ll be wearing with them. You might have to buy a whole new shoe wardrobe! Don’t tell El Hub I said that. 🙂
