MAC Mariah Carey Frost Lipstick in All I Want

November 18th, 2015 by Karen 31 Comments

There should be a video in this post, but if you can’t see it, you can click here to watch it on YouTube.

I don’t think I’ve been this excited about a frosty pale lipstick since the late ’90s. Seriously, all I need now is a plummy black lip liner, and then it’s “Hello, 1997!”

Say “seasons greetings” to new MAC Mariah Carey Frost Lipstick in All I Want ($17).

I have to admit that Mimi was the main reason I took an early interest in this color.

Did I mention I’m a fan?? I think I may have mentioned it once or twice… 🙂 I’ve been a fan of hers since the very beginning, and by “very beginning,” I’m talking about the Vision of Love days.

I mean, I don’t bid on locks of her hair on eBay or anything, but I did take my mom to a Mariah Carey concert once (I think she enjoyed it), and I did make my brother watch Glitter with me on opening day (I know FOR SURE that he did not enjoy it, haha!).

And I know almost all of the words to all of Mariah Carey’s songs…

So, yeah. Needless to say, I was pretty psyched when I heard about MAC All I Want Lipstick (it’s an online exclusive coming Dec. 3 to the MAC website).

On my lips, it’s a frosty, shimmery champagne with little bits of silver glitter in it for an extra element of cuteness, and coverage-wise, I can still see a bit of my natural lip color peeking through when I wear it.

Now, I’ve seen Mariah wear colors like this before, so it makes complete sense to me that it’s the product of a MAC/Mariah collaboration.

Wearing MAC Mariah Carey All I Want Frost Lipstick

As you can see from the swatch (I’m also wearing it in the video), it’s très frosty. When I wear it by itself without any additional lip accoutrements, I feel a little bit like a sexy robot… All I can see are those frosty metallic lips, WHOA! I also feel like this particular high frost finish emphasizes my vertical lip lines and, consequently, makes me look older than I am.

Yeah, that’s one thing I don’t like about it (but there is a workaround).

It really, REALLY comes into its own with a sheer lipgloss on top, like a peachy pink or a pinkish brown. I’ve been pairing it with sheer pinkish brown Buxom Ava, because I feel like the sheerness of the gloss sort of tempers the lipstick’s frosty finish (does that make any sense?).

I think that on its own, though, unless you routinely do the pale, frosty lipstick thing and love it, All I Want is a challenge to wear. I probably won’t be wearing it by itself, but I think it looks downright beautiful with a gloss on top.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Whoa! That’s frosty, as in ’80s metallic frosty . This might only look good on Mariah LOL I think it’s going to be hard for many people (including me) to pull off, but I like your idea of putting a gloss on top

I own the MAC lipstick “Beigeland”, which looks rather similar on me, and even though I dislike it whenever I apply it, I just cant seem to let it go. Maybe I´ll try the lipgloss on top trick.

Too bad it’s not a more wearable shade because I used to love Mariah Carey too when she first became big. I cut out each picture and magazine article I could find and put it in a special notebook 🙂 Oh those teenage years!

I love this! I definitely think adding a colored gloss over top can change this up so much! I love frosted lipsticks so this is perfect for me ?

I was excited before and was hoping blog swatches would change my mind because I said hell to the no since I don’t do frosts. I own VGR1 and it looks amazing on me but this is still a giant NO. Unless I do the gloss on top like you suggested but I hate having to make additional purchases to make lipsticks work. I hope the rest of her collab interests me. Meh.

I want to like this so much but I know it’s just too light and it’ll just wash me out :/ (I’m about a NC25)

Maybe she’ll do another lipstick for spring!

Wow!I knew when they announced this that it would be frosty, but I didn’t think it would be this frosty. I still have my very first MAC lipstick, which was also my very first expensive cosmetics purchase. I had to beg my mom to buy it. It is called B-Cup. It’s this slightly frosty iridescent that I saw in a Seventeen magazine. This was in 2000 or 2001 when I was a Junior or Senior in Highschool. There is way more to this story, but I’m not going to bore you with that. Back when it was so cool to wear mini backpacks as purses. Mine was a navy Adidas. So sorry for getting off topic! The Mariah lipstick just brings back memories.

So late 90s! The first makeup item I ever bought in the late 90s as a middle schooler was a frosty Wet n Wild lipstick.

Sorry for not commenting in a while. I have been thinking about the recent events in Paris and haven’t paid much attention to the “holiday hype”.

Having said that, I would say, of all the lipstick shades I have seen on you, this one is not my favorite. It would also look blah on my lighter complexion, even with the frost. I tend to like more semi-matte formulas. I am , however, searching for a nice, not too bold red shade for an event I am going to over the holidays (back to the hype). I just got the Urban Decay single shadow in half-baked (a golden-bronze). I was thinking of a red-lip to compliment it. Anyway, if I don’t comment again, have a good Thanksgiving. We are hosting again.

It’s so different form all of lipsticks I’ve been wearing lately. I kinda like it. Wish they’d did a special tube color though, something other than black. My favorite Mariah Carey song is “I Gotta Shake it Off” !

You are making that frosted finish werk! On my NC15 self though, it probably wouldn’t be a great look. I’d love to know where your gray knit top is from though, I’ve been looking for one like that!

HAHAHHAAHAHA – I’m dying right now thinking of your brother having to watch Glitter with you. I’m going to give him so much shit next time I see him.

I’m on the fence with this shade. If I did purchase, I’d wear it with a dark pencil, Chestnut or Hover, like it’s 1994!

I would have to disagree with the naysayers; this perhaps depends on your skin tone and there are more than enough women with a tad more melanin in their skin for this lipstick to do well. That being said I LOVE IT!!! I love Mariah as well, and will be online Dec 3rd to get it! 🙂 Thanks for our hard work and honesty Karen. I love your blog as much as I love make up.

There is absolutely NO way that I could wear this lipstick, but I think it looks FAB on you, Karen! Even by itself, it’s not just frosty lips talking, LOL. It looks good! Toning it down with a gloss made it look even better. Maybe it’s your skin tone?? Anyway, you wear it well.?

I’m a huge Mariah fan and will be picking this up. I usually like satin or matte formulas, so this is very different from anything in my collection. Can’t wait to try it. I love breakdown too, but my fav song is Underneath the Stars.

Very cute! Loved it, especially once you layered some gloss over it. I think that’s probably what we’re supposed to do. Could you do a tutorial on a couple of her other lipstick shades that she just came out with?

    Thanks!
