Makeup I Wore Today

January 22nd, 2016 by Karen 25 Comments

Guess what…? Today I wore absolutely no beige or brown on my lids.

I know! Small victories.

And I also managed to refrain (for once) from wearing a nude lip.

I went with mauve and taupe eyes with glowing, bronzed matte cheeks (no blush today, which is something new for me) and a matte pinkish coral lip. Nothing too complicated, but there’s still a little color up in the mix, which makes me happy. 🙂

So that’s what I wore today for a fun-filled (not) afternoon in the house. How about you? I’m curious… Did anyone else wear highlighter?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Oh, my gosh. Remember Mona Lisa Smile? I spotted it on Netflix today, so I’m watching it again right now. I totally forgot how many people are in it. Julia Roberts, Kirsten Dunst, Julia Stiles, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Marcia Gay Harden — so many great actresses!

I love this look, and your hair…omg!! It’s so beautiful! I did not wear highlighter, but I wore Becca Backlight Primer which gives such a beautiful glow! Thank you Becca, for getting me out of my matte-ness, and to Karen for the introduction to the primer!

I have to try the dinosaur mascara! I picked up a new mascara yesterday, and oh so disappointed!

I actually wore highlighter yesterday, which was your today (probably, I don’t know if I am getting this right), and that is pretty unusual for me.
But I decided to film a spontaneous video for Sunday and my makeup looked way too flat on camera, so I felt all fancy and put on highlighter. In the end the lights were too bright and my face was completely washed out, but hey, at least I tried!

I wear highlighter everyday. I didn’t use to do so, but from when I started doing it I felt like there was no way back.

Really love your eyes here 🙂

Sultry looking in that last picture! Sephora is out of stock of that mascara, but I added it to my Loves list so that I remember to try it out!

Yesterday was pretty basic makeup – I’ve had a sinus infection and a stye (that’s now better), so it’s been a week! Yesterday I did my Glossier Skin Tint all over (which I like the tone and coverage of a lot, but the staying power leaves something to be desired…), Sephora Collection Gel Serum Concealer, the Sephora Collection cheek gel in peach, Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Moonstone (which is my jammmmm), Glossier Boy Brow, one of the new Maybelline Color Tattoo Crayons in Bronze Truffle, and Clinique High Impact Mascara (a mini one that I’m using, I have another mini all ready for use since I’ve been sick)

I just ordered MAC Face and Body in N1 since I had a Nordstrom Note, I’m excited to try it out a bit. I like foundations a little darker than my skin and sheer, since using something exactly my skin tone makes my (many) freckles look grey, which is super attractive, not! I’ve tested it before, and I like the texture and the staying power, but we’ll see how it goes with my picky skin!

you look fabuloso!! I am loving the Spring eye color looks you have been trying. I was admiring the cool seafoam eyeshadow look from your last video… tutorial pls on how to pull off pale blues and spring greens on eyes? this mauve eye is soft and so feminine. You can pull off strong and soft colors you are blessed with great genes and coloring- and it brings out your gorgeous brown peepers! Highlighter… not so much, esp powders. I have mature skin so it is tricky. there is a cream one by Laura Mercier that I like to use from time to time, much easier to pull off.

Pretty! I have been in a mauvy, taupy mood myself! I am trying to avoid beiges or browns because my mauves and taupes are feeling left out! I am even highlighting like noones business! I love the way it wakes up my skin! xx

I re-watched Mona Lisa Smile recently, and I completely forgot how rotten Kirsten Dunst’s character was for 3/4 of the film — she definitely redeemed herself at the end. Speaking of Ms. Dunst, have you watched the second season of Fargo? Oh my, Peggy Blumquist.

I haven’t watched it again since first seeing it, but I still remember much of the details, it was an AWESOME movie. I bought the soundtrack as well. Did you notice Tori Amos singing during the ball? You’re welcome. 😀

I was just talking about Mona Lisa smiles a couple days ago. That’s where I used to lecture- they filmed it while I was working there. I missed seeing Julia R though. ?

Totes think the lippie is the star of the show here. Complements the eye look very well. Today, I’ll wear highlighter just because of this post! 🙂

You look so pretty Karen! When the Hourglass eye palettes first came out I bought a few of them, but they just didn’t work for me. I love the colours. Unfortunately as much as I wanted to love them, they just didn’t hold up on me throughout the day. They ended up looking muddy and very faded after a few hours. Oh well

This eye and lip combo totally works because you skipped the blush. You look fabulous! Lemming TM + loose powder foundation right now, but all my TMs are too dark and make me look orange 🙁 The one month a year I don’t have enough color in my skin lol
