Moisturize in a Flash with Olay Quench Mousse

March 24th, 2008 by Karen 41 Comments

When I hear the word “mousse” I think of Bullwinkle, or maybe a creamy chocolate mousse (yum), or perhaps hair mousse, but I don’t think of moisturizing lotions — that is, until now. Introducing Olay Quench Mousse, Olay’s latest entry in the crowded field of body moisturizers.

I usually look for thick, rich body lotions and creams. My first impression of Olay Quench Mousse was that it felt light and fluffy, so I didn’t expect to like it. But ooh la la I did!

olay-quench-mousse-1.jpg

I gave it a try after my shower last night. I shook the bottle, squirted a few dots o’ mousse onto my arms and watched in fascination as the dots reacted with air, magically growing into a light, sudsy foam. Wow!

It took less than 10 seconds to massage the foam into my arms. Most moisturizers take a lot longer to apply than that, but Olay Quench Mousse took only two minutes, tops, to fully moisturize my skin after my shower. I felt like Speed Hydration Racer!

Speed aside, Olay Quench Mousse is a great moisturizer. It contains a special green tea and vitamin complex which, according to the product packaging, provides 24-hour, lasting moisturization. While it hasn’t been 24 hours yet, I’d have to agree with Olay’s claims so far.

Poor moisturizing lotions just don’t cut it with me. My arms and legs feel itchy and look a little scaly if I don’t use a good moisturizer every day. I can report no itchy skin at all after using Olay Quench Mousse last night, and when I checked my legs and arms this morning for scaliness, not a single scale was found.

If you find yourself tempted to play with this product like I was — like if you try to write words on your thigh to watch them suds up like whip cream — take note. Bad idea. I wrote “YO” on my left thigh with the mousse (yes, I’m easily amused), and it was way too much product. I managed to massage it all into my skin, but it left my thigh feeling sticky. Ewww. The bottle says “a little goes a long way,” and that’s no joke.

This stuff is so fab, but there are a few things about it that I wish I could change. No. 1, it leaves a thin layer of glittery shimmer on my skin. When you’re in your early-20s, you can wear glitter on your arms all day, every day, and it’s completely acceptable, but when you’re 32, glittery arms at noon on Monday looks like you’re trying too damn hard. Granted, it’s not chunky glitter, so I don’t look like I’m heading to a rave, but it’s still visible.

No. 2, while Olay Quench Mousse hydrates well, I know it’s not going to be hydrating enough for my problem dry skin in the middle of winter, when my legs go into full-on lizard scale mode, which means it’s a spring/summer moisturizer for me.

Despite these minor issues, I love this stuff. Olay Quench Mousse will save me when I’m rushed in the morning and don’t have forever to get so fresh and so clean-clean.

Purchase Olay Quench Mousse at your favorite drugstore or online at drugstore.com.

Yesterday, I drove out to the East Bay to kick it with my family, and for the first time, ever, had pizza along with our regular Easter lunch, LOL. Both of my parents are retired and and have been on my case 24/7 to pop out a grandchild (for their amusement). My mom has now resorted to dropping visual reminders — she cuts out pictures of babies from Mervyn’s catalogues and sticks them on the ‘fridge. LE SIGH!

I had fun playing fetch with the family dog, aka Shauna the Wonderdog. Shauna has the amazing ability to catch anything you throw, mid-air! She’s a jumping rock star!

I hope your Monday is off to a good start. Whatcha got going on for today?

Karen

Shauna, aww. My boyfriend’s name is Shaun, so it’s amusing to see Shaun(a) spelled that way.

What kind of dog is she?

Cute stuff! Oh god, my dog is on the approach… must end comment!

Have you also tried the regular olay quench lotion? I wasn’t crazy about it and I was wondering how it compares?

    Hi Christine,

LOL, our neighbor had a grown son named Shaun and he always got a kick out of the dog’s name too. She has sooo many nicknames: Dog Genius, Lil’ Precious, Precious La Rue, Stinks, Sausage, etc. She is a finely bred mutt!

Your dog wants to blog too, how cute!! 🙂

    Hi Molly,

It works much better then the regular Quench. The lotion formula was never moisturizing enough but this works better by leaps and bounds.

Whoah! Look at that wind-up to launch! Wonderdog indeed!

The Quench-mousse sounds like fun! Is it the kind of shimmer that looks nice with shorts in midsummer? Or more the kind where people kinda look at you funny?

    Hi Karen,
wow that stuff sounds good, im always looking for a super quick moisutriser for after my hurried morning shower! Its strange i have never felt the need to moisturise my body before but in the last year or so i have really seen a difference- i must be getting old!

You said that there was a glittery film left, can you actually feel any glitter on the skin or is it more of a light shimmer like for example the palmers coco butter shimmering lotion??

    Hi Glosslizard,

Yeah, she rules! She’s not as springy as she used to be in her puppy years but she’s still got it. 🙂

The mousse is totally fun! For most people the shimmer won’t be too obvious. I think it shows up a lot on me because of my tan skin tone. Perhaps it bugs me because in general I’m not very pro-body glitter, LOL. You could totally get away with it on your legs in the summertime!

    Hi Holly,

Nope, you can’t feel the glitter. The flecks are very fine. In fact, I didn’t really notice until I looked super closely at my arm (LOL, that could also be because I’m blind without my contacts). It’s a very light shimmer that most people will be cool with. 🙂

    Hey!

Yeah, L’oréal’s eyeshadows are pretty good for a drugstore brand. 🙂 It sucks to live in Finland since no, I haven’t tried the pigment sticks because we don’t have them here nor the HIP shadows. :/ On a more positive note, I have a friend living in Indiana and we’ve just started swapping makeup 😀 Maybe one day I’ll get to try some of those. 🙂 Do you have any fave shades?

Ooh, there’s Shauna, she’s cute! 🙂 Haha, most people laugh when they hear the dachshund is named after a long bun roll ;D Yeah, I think it’s easier for both the owners and the dogs to get along with each other. Good to hear it went well with Bell and Shauna. 🙂

Some of my acquaintances have worked as telemarketers and they’ve all said it sucks. Must not have been nice work. At least in Finland it’s common to be rude to them and hang up. :/ Well, I don’t have any special wishes, but it would be fun to work with clothes/make up or then some sort of gardening etc. I’ll let you know if I ever get a job. 🙂 Yeah, my aunt told me that these two months will be the best time of my life because I don’t have to either study or work. Somehow I don’t want to believe her as I’m kind of living for my future and I believe the best time of my life starts in London. 😀 But I’m sure I’mma enjoy this time.

Today I’ll be meeting a friend downtown, hope you’ll have a fun day, too!

    ~Hey karen!
Its “jerb” well said? In spanish it´s said “jerbo”, you know, those desert mice that look like a mix of a squirrel and a mouse. 😀
My dogs, three ladies and a little male. Their names are: Diva, and her daughters Musa (“Muse” in spanish) and Tana. They are German Shorthaired pointers, and they are utterly cute! They have honey-colored eyes.
The dog´s name is Pitt, he is a Westy. I think he is in love with Tiffa (or maybe he just wants to eat her, dunno and I don´t want to find it out LoL)
My bunny Tiffa, wich is a minilop and likes to eat Chanel´s adverts from my magazines (She is a glam bunny, isn´t she?), and my jerb (?) is named Ceres Victoria. He is just a month old.
My sis also has a kitty! Her name is Pelusa (“Fluff” in spanish)
We´re an animal lover family as you can see.
    Hugs!!

    Hi Aleks,

My favorite pigments sticks from L’oreal are Irresistible (light purple) and Mesmerizing (emerald green). Sooo pretty when you wet them! They have amazing shimmer. Plus, they’re very easy to use if you’re feeling too lazy to use a brush.

That’s cool that you swap makeup with your homie in Indiana! Amazing how the internet brings people together…

OH, I love my Shauna-na-na! When she was a tiny puppy I lived at home, and every morning I’d take her out for her walk and she’d never even have to use a leash. She’d trot right next to me with her tail wagging the entire time. I used to be her favorite person because I did everything for her — walked her, bathed her, etc. etc. If I could’ve moved to a place that allowed pets then I would’ve taken her with me, but oh well. I’m glad she still lives at home though, because she keeps my dad company (he calls her his “best friend,” awww!).

LOL, yeah, telemarketing was rough. I mean, at least I learned to get comfortable doing phone sales. That was the most valuable thing about that crap ass job… I can now sell ice on the phone to eskimos if I need to, ha ha ha! Seriously though, whatever job you get, enjoy your break and have as much as fun as you can! 🙂

I hope you had a good time with your friend. Today was busy for me. I worked from the time I got up till now, but I plan on rewarding myself with some positive makeup reinforcement later on this week!

Your dogs sound so cute! I love all sorts of pups, and think pointers and westies are super cute. I hope Pelusa is cool with all these dogs in the house!

My family growing up was just like yours. We always had different animals around during various times. My dad and mom grew up in the country, so my dad was always brining home random animals like dogs, cats, birds, rabbits… you name it, we had it at one point or another. 🙂

    Hi Karen!!

Thanks for this great review!! I’ve gone through dozens of moisturizers, but they weren’t moisturizing enough! I’m in Vegas and you KNOW how dry it is out here. Soo.. after I read this review, I went to my local grocery store and bought it, it was even on sale! It HAD to have been destiny lol.

Anyhow, I used it right after I showered.. and ABSOLUTELY LOVE LOVE LOVES IT! It feels so lightweight and not sticky at all. I used to slather on a good amount of lotion (*cough vaseline brand cough*) which left my skin feeling sticky and after an hour, I’d still be itchy =(. Plus the boyfriend hated how “sticky and cold” it left my body. But with this product, I know he’ll love!

Okay, I’ll stop gushing about it. I just wanted to say thank you =) BTW, Shauna’s beautiful!! Seeing your Easter Family get-together makes me miss my family back home =( PLEASE tell me you had some good ol’ Filipino grub. I miss it. I miss adobo.. oh, pancit. Gosh I miss my mom’s pancit!

You’re so welcome! I am so glad you liked it (and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that your boyfriend digs your oh-so-smooth and non-sticky skin, too). Isn’t it really surprising how moisturizing it is? Who woulda thunk it from a fluffy mousse! Oh, and like you, I love getting stuff on sale. It totally was destiny. 🙂

Aww, if you met Shauna I’m sure she’d love you!. 🙂 Oh, and yes, we ate a lot of Pinoy grub at Easter. My mom made me a few things special — fried Tilapia, sinigang and shrimp. And of course, pancit. I even had some for breakfast this morning. I hope that you’ll be able to get home soon for some of your mom’s cooking. When do you think you’ll get to visit your fam?
