My Current Favorite Liquid Lipsticks

I’ve definitely tried my fair share of liquid lipsticks (most recently, the NARS Lip Covers), and I love the look of matte liquid lipsticks in general. It’s interesting to me how each brand handles them a little differently.

I first got into them when Colourpop exploded onto the scene with their “Ultra Matte” liquid lipsticks last summer (here are some of my favorites from Colourpop, by the way), but I’ve slowly but surely moved to some more forgiving formulas from other brands.

Here’s a quick roundup of my current faves…

My current go-to liquid lipsticks

Buxom Wildly Whipped Lightweight Liquid Lipstick in Centerfold ($21)

I just love it when a product lives up to its name! Buxom Wildly Whipped Lightweight Liquid Lipstick in Centerfold feels super comfortable and lightweight, and the applicator makes it a breeze to neatly apply. The formula doesn’t dry down to 100% matte, but it still stays put through moderate eating and snacking.

The best part, though, is that my lips don’t feel dry at all after wearing this one all day long. If you’re looking for a long-lasting formula that feels good on your lips, definitely check it out. You can find it at Sephora for $21.

I LOVE the Buxom Wildly Whipped Lightweight Liquid Lipstick applicator!

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lolita II ($20)

The original Kat Von D Lolita was wildly popular and sold out right away, but when KVD made more, the color was different, which led to Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lolita II.

I bought a set last fall that had mini sizes of the original Lolita, as well as Lolita II, and I prefer the sequel because the warm terra-cotta tones make it so easy to wear.

The formula dries all the way down to 100% matte, and it’s more resistant to transferring than Buxom Centerfold. But it’s still pretty comfortable on the lips (available now at Sephora for $20).

Buxom Wildly Whipped Lightweight Liquid Lipstick in Swinger ($21)

Buxom Wildly Whipped Lightweight Liquid Lipstick in Swinger has just a tad more pink than MAC Stylist’s Tip, if you’re familiar with that color, but I think that difference makes it very unique. I can’t get over how much it brightens my face!

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipsticks ($24)

I feel like Stila products never really get their due, despite them being consistently good. The Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipsticks are great because they have a formula that’s like a mix between the Buxom and KVD formulas. They still dry down to 100% matte, but they have a slightly mousse-y finish. They also have a really strong cupcake scent, which I love because…cupcakes (but I know that the scent may not work for everyone).

I grabbed one of the super cute gift sets with mini sizes of a few shades that were available at Sephora, but the full-size versions are available now for $24 each.

Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain in Always Red ($14)

Lastly, Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain in Always Red — the mother of all liquid lipsticks, IMO — is one of my favorite liquid lipstick EVER because the formula just does not budge. It will seriously last all day, but you feel like you have nothing on your lips! I’m slowly convincing all of my friends to try it out because it is just sooo good. The formula reminds me of Stila’s liquid lipsticks, with the main differences being the Sephora Collection’s lack of a noticeable scent and a slightly thinner formula.

Oh, and the Sephora Lip Stains are also cheaper at $14 versus $24.

Are any of your favorites here?

Oops! I almost forgot to mention — here are the deets on the rest of the makeup I’m wearing:

Giorgio Armani Maestro Glow Foundation in 8 (review + swatches here) // Anastasia Brow Wiz in Dark Brown // Maybelline Great Lash in Clear // Chanel Stylo Eyeshadow in Campanule // NARS Dual-Intensity blush in Sexual Content (can you tell that this is one of my favorites?).

What are your favorite liquid lipsticks at the moment? Inquiring minds want to know!

Aria looks gorgeous on you! I really love Kat Von D’s Lolita and Lolita II. I recently discovered Ofra’s Pasadena and it was really comfortable to wear.

Thank you Lupe! Yeah girl, KVD nailed it with both Lolita and Lolita II. I keep hearing good things about Ofra, but haven’t bought anything (yet) because I can’t see them in person. But adding Pasadena to my list for when I finally cave!

That purple eyeshadow is really pretty! I like all these, but I think Centerfold is particularly lovely on you.

My favorite liquid lipsticks of the moment are Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in Dirty Money, Nyx Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick in Vintage and Stone Fox, ColourPop Ultra Satin in Marshmallow, and Ofra Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Kathleen Lights Havana Nights.

Thank you Rachel! Ok, you’re the second person to comment about Ofra, so I feel like I kinda have to buy something from them now 😉 I also hear raves about Jeffree Star, so I may need to break down and get something (especially with those insane highlighters that he just came out with…OMG). Your recommendations are always so good!! Thank you for sharing 🙂

Question – what brush are you using with the Nars blush? And are you applying it it dry or wet? I just picked this up and am really struggling to get it to show up on my skin at all (though when I swatched it at Sephora it seemed fine, but my brand new one I bought is giving me only sadness). Thank you in advance!

Hi Tracy! I’ve been using the blush brush that came with the Zoeva Completr Brush Set that I reviewed here in April. That works because it’s small but really dense. My HG blush brush is the Real Techniques one but that doesn’t work as well with this blush.

they all look great. I love the top pic. I have shades similar to Campanule. I’m glad I came across this post because now I know better what colors to wear with it.

My favorite liquid lip colors are NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams, Too Faced Melted, and the new Buxom line in shade Instigator.

Did you or anyone else notice how whipped the Buxom lip colors are? They actually remind me of icing.

Hey Brittany! So glad this post was helpful 🙂 I’m always talked into buying bold eyeshadow colors but then usually get stumped when I try to wear them! I think NYX makes really good ones too…which reminds me to get some more now that a NYX store just opened near my job. I agree, the Buxom ones really are whipped. They are so light!

Centerfold looks fantastic on you!! You do have incredible lips!

I keep meaning to pop a Sephora Lip Cream in my basket – they’ve gone on my list. Have you tried the Jeffree Star liquid lipsticks? If so, what did you think? They are RAVED about! I’ve ordered a couple to see if they live up to the hype, I’ve got high hopes!

Thank you Becky! You NEED to try a sephora lip cream. They really are great. I haven’t bought a JS liquid lipstick yet, but my goodness people are wild for them. Please report back once you try them. I think I may have to buy one…you know, for research 🙂
