Teal Liner Gives Me Wings! A MAC Bangin’ Brilliant Face of the Day

July 12th, 2016 by Karen 30 Comments

Wearing some MAC Bangin’ Brilliant today!

Can I just say, it took all of my strength to NOT wear nude lips with this look today, but I dug deep and busted out a glossy, orangey red instead. Thank you, babe, for giving me strength!

You know, it’s funny…but this is basically the same look I’ve been rocking for the last five months or so — winged liner, lashes and lipstick — but with slight adjustments, and it’s kind of amazing (and I forget this sometimes) how a few simple tweaks can turn something routine and basic into something new and different.

Hey, girl, haaaay!

When I did my winged liner this morning, instead of doing a teeny, tiny kitten flick in basic black, I used a teal eyeshadow (worn as an eyeliner) and exaggerated the flick a little more than usual.

Then for my lashes, instead of using mascara, I grabbed my good ol’ trusty Ardell Demi-Wispies (which I’m able to put on in my sleep now, for reals).

And for my lips, instead of going the nude route, I reached for a glossy reddish orange gloss.

Summery teals and oranges, yum!

Most of the key products I used for the look are from MAC, with a couple of items from the new MAC Bangin’ Brilliant collection.

Remember Teal Appeal, that teal I was drooling over yesterday?

Yeah! I managed to get it on my lids sooner than later (small victories!), and that’s what I’m wearing on my lash lines. I’m also wearing MAC Bangin’ Brilliant Blush in Bright Response on my cheeks.

Some new obsessions…

Just briefly, and I can go into more detail later if you want me to (lemme know), here are some high points about the products I used.

MAC Matchmaster Shade Intelligence Compact in 4.0 ($36): MAC’s new-ish CC compact (it came out a few months back)? AMAZE. If you want a flawless skin look that also looks great in flash photography, it’s unbelievable.

MAC Pro Longwear Waterproof Colour Stick in Sand Bar ($22): Sand Bar hails from MAC’s Pro Longwear Waterproof Colour Stick collection, also new-ish.

Uh…where has this been all my life? It’s basically a perfect matte neutral tan eyeshadow in a creamy stick, and UGH! — it’s so good it hurts.

Tom Ford High Definition Eye Liner in Azure ($42): This super skinny pencil liner by Tom Ford is my everything. It’s dark blue, pigmented and absolutely waterproof.

SO expensive, too, but it delivers.

So, yeah. That’s what I’m rockin’ today, and I’m pretty stoked about it. The teal and orange feel summery, and the look didn’t take long to do.

I’m kind of relieved, to be honest, to not spend forever and a day on my makeup and still really like how it turned out. Like, seriously, during those P.C. days (also known as the “Pre-Connor days”), I often spent an hour doing my makeup, but this only took about 25 minutes, WHICH I LOVE.

It’s a whole new world.

MAC’s First Sample Sale!

mac attack

Speaking of MAC, if you live in the New York area or plan to be there later this month, MAC will be hosting their very first sample sale ever, and it’ll be in New York, which reminds me…why do they call them sample sales? But I digress…

Seasonal items, limited edition colors and fan faves will be on sale up to 60% off (OMG!).

Hmm… El Hub’s birthday is later this month. Would it be too tacky of me to give him (us) a trip to New York? I’d be all, “They have the biggest comic book store in America! We should totally go!”

LOL!

Here’s where the sale will be:

Metropolitan Pavilion
4th Floor
123 West 18th St
New York, NY 10011

And the dates…

July 19, 2PM – 7PM
July 20, 9AM – 7PM
July 21, 9AM – 7PM
July 22, 9AM – 4PM

You know I love a good deal. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Aww, thanks girl! I used a primer, concealer and powder in addition to the foundation. It takes a village, LOL!

Loving the teal winged liner! Great way to re-introduce color into your routine, and it pairs really nicely with the lips.

I had to go to my future workplace for paperwork, so it was all nude and professional! Just a cream eyeshadow, tightlining with a dark brown shadow, mascara, my YSL Touche Eclat foundation, all the concealer I needed, theBalm Desert Balm on the cheeks and UD Sheer Liar on the lips!
I found out that the dress code there is casual with jeans or flip-flops being perfectly fine, but I’m almost disappointed, lol! I want to wear my business clothes again!

      Hi Savannah,

Got it! I will do a quickie review in the next couple of days. My compact in this pic is looking well loved because I’ve been using it a TON lately. It’s really great!

This is such a pretty look, Karen. Amazing how a little bit of a color can make you look so fresh and summery. I love that lip color on you too!

And I think you should totally book a NY trip for your hubby’s birthday!

What brush did you apply that teal eyeshadow with?

      Hi Agata,

I used the NARS #47. It’s seriously THE BEST angled brush for applying winged liner.

Kindasorta related but Chelsea just mentioned here in the comments about doing a copper wing… I bet that would look really pretty with your blue eyes!

Love! I don’t think I’ve ever tried teal, maybe I’ll have to try! I did copper wings today though, received some new Sephora eyeliner pencils in my latest package.

I’m getting better at falsies. I have no problem on the right side (I’m right handed) but have trouble with the left. I wore them for my performance the other day, but due to the extreme sun, I ended up wearing sunglasses over my eyes all day, LOL.

Copper wings sound pretty. Maybe I’ll do that next (perhaps with a gel liner just to switch things up). How are you liking those pencils, btw?

So, isn’t it funny how falsies are easier on one eye? I’m like you in that it’s always easier to do the right. I watched your performance video and you guys did great! It’s a really interesting concept and was fun to watch.

Can you do a post on the wispies eye application? I use the full 110 but would like to try the singular ones

Thanks! My friend Kay cane up with the idea! I also did two hula hooping performances during the day. I’m a bit sunburned, but not blistering at least.

I really like the eye pencils! The colors I have don’t irritate my eyes and wear well. I don’t line my waterline though, so I can’t judge that.

yes you need to go to Midtown Comics, 41st and 7th. That place is incredible. Seriously incredible.

Let me know if you’re in town, I know where all the Sephoras are and lots of good food spots.

Those are your colors, girl! You should wear that teal and orangey-red a LOT. It reminds me of Technicolor musical numbers from the 1950a. Simply stunning!

Karen! This look is so beautiful, and I’m thrilled you got out of your neutral eye/nude lip rut that you were talking about recently. I’ve been having the same problem lately, and I think I’ll try this look out myself! You have a very similar skin tone to me, and I’ve always looked to your blog for makeup inspiration since I love how you experiment with color and texture. Keep on keeping on!

You’re not lying about the comic book store and El Hub would love it, so it’s another win-win. HAHA! I’m very impressed with your summery look and I’m eventually going to stop complimenting your hair. Eventually, but not today. Looks awesome. 🙂

Looks wonderful! You look so happy, like “hey world look what I did, isn’t it great?!” And yes it is!! And you know what else is great? It’s like your job and you get paid for it. So you can be all, “Connor honey, Mama’s gotta go to work, be a good girl” and do your makeup. Haha! I’d totally do that. 🙂

      Hi Yelena,

I was pleasantly surprised by the blush too. It looks so crazy in the pan, but when it’s applied with a duo fiber brush it’s very natural.

      Hi Rakhee,

It was really simple. Just a swipe of the cream pencil across the lids, tightline with the liner, then apply the teal eyeshadow with a wet angled brush. It’s that easy! 🙂
