And The Lion in Your Living Room…

OK, cat ladies…I just found THE BEST show on Netflix! Tabs and I started watching it last night after I put Connor to bed (because, of course, that’s when Tabs gets his special time… He demands it!), and we all thoroughly enjoyed learning more about our feline friends/overlords.

Happy Thursday to you, sweet pea. 🙂 It’s rainy and wet here in Nor Cal today, but I fully intend to have a great day. I hope you do too.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I generally distrust all drugstore makeup, it smells funky, doesn’t feel nice on my skin or lips, or irritates my eyes to no end, and most places have poor return policies or flat out refuse me and then I’ve just wasted my money on something I’ll never ever use. I remember one lip product literally felt like I was smearing hand sanitizer on my lips, and a l’oreal eye liner felt like I poured alcohol into my eyes. I stick with Mac!!

I generally stick with Revlon. They seem to have nicer quality drug store products!

I like Revlon too. They make some beautiful face products in lots of shades. 🙂

      Hi Savannah,

I like MAC too, although I do think though that there are lots of drugstore gems out there. It might take a little sifting to find them but they’re there!

We’re about halfway through and it’s SO interesting! Did you find yourself wishing you could visit those cat sanctuaries?!

Gonna try the Dream Cushion this weekend… Looking forward to it!

Yes, Anything to be around more felines. 🙂

I hope the foundation is a hit. I love Maybelline’s foundations for the most part and an looking for an affordable, glowy option. I DESPERATELY want to try the Hourglass stick foundation. DO you think Sephora would let me sample that somehow?

After a bunch of cloudy days the sun has popped out here in So Cal! Definitely stepping out for some Vitamin D 🙂

      Hey Tisha,

Enjoy the sunshine! The thing I love about the warmer parts California is that the sun always comes back and our winters aren’t too rough. How do you like living in So Cal? Have you been there for a while? I grew up here in the Bay Area and moved back after college.

Been living here for over 4 years now, quite different (especially weather wise), from India, which is where I’ve lived most of my life…

Oh, I bet! I just was talking to a gal in my exercise class today who got back from a trip to India. She went for a month to visit her family and came back with these beautiful henna designs on her hands. Do you get to go back there often? My family is originally from the Philippines, and although it’s been years since I’ve gone, my parents go back to visit every year for a few months.

I went back this summer for the first time after moving here and it was a bit of a shock – I had almost forgotten what a different world it is over there! Haha 🙂 (I had packed way too much makeup and realized once I was there that I probably own way too much more than I need…)
Henna is typically worn by Indian brides and the bridal party and it sometimes goes all the way up to the elbows and even on the feet. The last time I wore henna was for a cousin’s wedding and that was ages back.

LOL, that’s the story of my life. I go on a two day trip and I bring enough makeup for two years! LOL! Whatever, I like to be prepared.

I guess you could say the same thing about the Philippines. It’s SUCH a different world, the pace, the roads, the traffic… OMG! When I went back in my 20s I was shocked because nobody — NOBODY — actually drove within the lines on the streets and freeways like they do here. There were literally cars in every spot on the road. It’s super cool though to experience life that is so different! I remember coming back here to California and feeling like everything was almost sterile, you know? I kind of missed the chaos.

I’m surprised at the 24K palette. Shouldn’t it contain more golds? :/

I haven’t swatched it yet, but I’m assuming that the colors have some sort of golden undertone. I think it looks pretty, plus I love wearing golds!

I wish they would wait until January and February to announce the spring collections — that’s when things feel cold cold and dreary and I’m really looking for a shot of color!

I think we need Netflix… we just got Amazon Prime TV, being thoroughly tired of the basic cable offerings…

      Hi Fran,

Netflix is just *OK*. It was better a few years ago when they had more stuff available to stream (I think there was a contract dispute with Starz and they lost a bunch of good movies and shows). There’s lots to watch but you have to sift through a lot of barely-watching crap, which is why when I find something good I like to share it. How are you liking Amazon Prime TV so far?

I always seem to come to things a few years too late! At least as far is TV goes…

Since I already had amazon prime, it was kind of crazy *not* to have the TV. My son likes to watch the British car show guys who got cancelled by the BBC for being too outrageous. We’re getting into a show from FX called The Americans; it’s done really well. We’ve watched the first episode of The Man in The High Castle, which is well done, but you have to be into Philip K. Dick to like it — I think it’s his strangest novel, and he was a really strange guy. There’s a ton of other stuff we haven’t tried yet. A lot of our tastes tend to be a bit off the beaten track. We can subscribe to things like Netflix and HBO through them instead of through our cable company if we want. Plus there are some things like old episodes of Good Eats with Alton Brown that I’d like to buy from amazon to stream. So we’re liking it so far; but you have to remember, we had just one step up from the most basic cable before.

I’ve seen a few eps of The Americans and enjoyed it. I can’t remember what happened but I ended up getting sidetracked.

It’s kind of amazing how now we can watch what we want when we want. In college (this is going to sound so silly) back in the ’90s, my roommate and I would schedule our classes so that we’d be home in time to watch Days of Our Lives, which is so hilarious to me!

Well, I already know I love the Maybelline matte lipstick formula, and I love nudes, so that’s a no-brainer! I also want to try the concealer, I find that I’ve had good luck with Maybelline concealers in general! But I agree with everyone else, it’s far too early to think about spring! I’m just beginning to pull out my winter favorites.

OMG I’ve been looking for something new to watch! This show looks great!

I definitely do not need any more highlighters / illuminators but I’ll be curious to see those and the lipsticks!
