3 Proper New-ish Neutral Palettes for Cozy Winter Cuddles

Let the cuddling commence in 3, 2, 1…

Sure, you could snuggle up on your couch with your cat/s, your S.O. or your favorite cuddle baby/buddy and do it without wearing a stitch of makeup on your lids. I mean, you’d be fine. Your hot cocoa will still taste hot cocoa-y, your Christmas tree lights will still sparkle, and your holiday candles will still smell holiday candle-y.

That said, if you do perform said snuggling while also wearing eyeshadow on your lids, you’ll be selfie ready, and you never know when you might want to take a selfie. 🙂

Here are three new-ish neutral eyeshadow palettes that are perfect for a Christmas cuddle session on the couch. Sure, you could rock a glittery smoky eye with a pair of double-stacked false lashes on the couch, but when I think of cuddling under warm blankets and sipping hot cocoa while watching holiday movies with strings of twinkling lights in the background, I think of cozy neutrals like the ones in these palettes.

The first one is theBalm Appetit, and it’s $39.50. It comes with nine neutrals, some of them cool-toned and some of them warm.

There’s a lot of shimmery foiled goodness happening in this palette, so if you like your neutrals on the shiny side, this one will be fun.

theBalm’s super soft eyeshadow powders are on finer side (comparable to Bobbi Brown’s), so it’s easy to get the colors to merge into each other without getting muddy. They’re great for detailed looks with well-defined sections of color in the crease, in the outer v and on the lid.

The Body Shop Down to Earth Palette, $36

For $36, with The Body Shop Down to Earth Palette, you get eight shades inspired by nature, and the colors look so very Tom Ford to me, which is one of the main reasons I’m so into it.

Like the powders in theBalm Appetit palette, these powders are super soft and easy to blend, but you have to be careful that you don’t over-blend them, because the second you do one swipe too many, the colors get muddy with each other.

That’s been my experience, so if you’re doing super complicated looks, this is probably not the palette to do them with. If, on the other hand, you usually stick to one light- or medium-toned shadow on your lids at a time, with perhaps a darker color to line your lash lines, this palette is fantastic.

For my dolls/guys who are all about the cool tones, the Mineral Fusion Enchanted Eye Palette has silky soft cool-toned shades in shimmer and matte finishes.

They remind me of the shadows in the Tarte Tartlette Palette because of how easily they scoot across my lids. This palette, by the way, also comes with a gorgeous cool-toned shimmery taupe liner.

If you’re interested, you’ll have to swing by a Whole Foods to find this one, where it’s $29.99.

      Hi Amy,

I think so too. 🙂 I just wish the Mineral Fusion one was easier to find. I hope you’re having a nice Saturday so far. My parents came over last night and spent the night with us! It was fun.

      Happy Caturday!

That TheBalm palette is very fun and original, love the letter-shaped pans (though I’m not sure how practical they are) and the colors are great.

The shapes are surprisingly not too hard to work with! I can get a flat eyeshadow, a domed and tapered brush in there easily.

      Happy Saturday!

Karen (and Melissa), I swatched TheBalm Appetit palette at my local Kohl’s and after some awkward finagling, discovered that the letter shape is actually an overlay that folds down over full size pans. Huzzah, no digging with brushes! It’s a cute palette, for sure.

Ahh, thanks Susan! I remember noticing that but totally spaced for a second there. Thank you for the reminder. 😀

Those are cute. But do you know what is EVEN CUTER? Those new mini Cover Shot Smashbox palettes…oh my gosh Karen you have to get (at least) one. There are 7. I broke my UD only rule and got 2 with my VIB Rouge $25 off thing. LOVE.

That Mineral Fusion palette looks very pretty. Not that I need another neutral palette…and I also don’t have a Trader Joe’s store anywhere near me.
