The Hunt for the Frida Kahlo Nail Polishes and Lipsticks Was a Success!

Found em!

I love the smell of two coats of Frida Kahlo Nail Polish in the morning (not really tho). It smells like…victory!!

Yeah, I found ’em. 🙂 Last night. They were in these random bins on the outer edge of the beauty section near the registers, of all places, at the Novato CVS!

It wasn’t a big display. It was actually semi-hidden among tiny bottles of hand sanitizer and travel-sized tins of Bag Balm (which is udder-ly fantastic, bah-dumdum!).

The tiniest tins of Bag Balm that I ever did see…

Thank you, girls, for helping me track these down. Your suggestion to check the availability feature on the CVS website worked like a charm. 😉 That’s definitely a tip to file away for future reference.

The store didn’t have all the colors — only four of the nail polishes and five of the lippies — and they were $8.49 each instead of $7.99 like it says on the website, but I grabbed the blue, the hot pink and the coral nail polishes and a few of the lipsticks. And because I have #noselfcontrol as it pertains to these things, I painted my fingers with two coats of the blue shade as quickly as humanly possible (although I did make it home first).

They were practically hidden in this bin

I blazed through my mani with these in my living room last night, and the room was kinda dark, so I couldn’t really see what I was doing. I also only gave my nails about 15 minutes to dry before I started doing things, so I expected my polish to look significantly worse for wear when I got up this morning, but noooo! It still looked smoother than a tabby’s tum and opaque — like a pro did them at a salon, instead of me, in my dark living room. Sweet!

Found the Frida Kahlo polishes and lipsticks at @cvspharmacy, yay! #republicnail #fridakahlo #nailpolish #bluenails #nailswatches #cvsbeauty

Strewn about like makeup detritus… They deserve better than this!

With just two layers, and without a base or top coat, they’ve lasted through weightlifting in HIIT class, lots of typing and several rounds of dishes, and I have yet to see a chip. Here’s to hoping that these polishes and lipsticks live up to the awesome reviews on the CVS website.

Ooh! These could be the stuff of drugstore legend, babe. Like, years from now, makeup archaeologists could talk about this line with the same reverence and sense of wonder reserved for Chanel Jade and those Paul & Joe cat lipsticks from 2012.

Thank you to all the girls who kindly offered to grab me a few of these from your local CVS if I wasn’t able to find them in the Bay Area. See, this is why we’re in the same makeup tribe — because when you offer to send someone a hard-to-find nail polish and lipstick, it’s because you KNOW how much it means to them.

Sending you a virtual fist bump through the screen! 🙂

Victory!!!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I can’t get over the packaging for this line. It’s so interesting. I hope someone does the same for other artists.

I’m so glad you found these, Karen! I’m really glad you told us about them, too; I found the same polishes you did, it looks like, plus a red one, and four of the same lipsticks (I don’t have the one with Frida’s head on a deer, and I’m not sure if the one I have with a white label is the same or not — mine is Inspiration, a medium lavender-pink). I’m hoping to find more lipstick, especially the purple with the heart on it and the bright pinks with ‘Dolor Arte Amor’ and with the roses and skulls on them; and the blue polish with the bird on it, and the bright pinks with the heart and with Frida’s face on a yellow background.

      Hi Fran,

Did you ever find the purple lipstick? Hope you got a chance to try the polishes. I’m still wearing that blue and it’s holding up great.

Hey Karen, I finally got to three more CVS stores today, but only found one more item from the collection that I didn’t already have — the lipstick called Pasion. I might end up getting to one or two more stores tomorrow, but, either the stores around here got a limited selection of shades, or all the other shades sold out. I actually think it’s probably the former. I did try one coat of each polish on a nail, and they do all look good against my skin; but I’m actually hoping to try the Essie gel couture polish first — I got Labels Only and Find Me a Manhequin 🙂

girl you lucked up. I snagged the red, but am looking for all of the others. seems like i can’t find them anywhere but CVS. After the holiday, they all went ghost 🙁 But I shall find them again. Love Frida and love the colors. There should be a whole store full of these products!

I just found these at CVS in Downtown Mountain View. I had no idea they existed. I’m beyond poor right now – two days before pay day – but I had to buy one. I wanted to get a lipstick too but the shades were too dark. There were literally two lipsticks left, one coral polish (mine!) and a few of the beiges (only if I can get the entire collection). They were just like the author said in the bins at the check out counter. I got Tums, bandaids and Frida Polish LOL.

I’m going to look at the CVS site and see who else has them. I love the teal/blue in your photos.

      Hi RachelKati,

If you find that teal one, grab it! It’s beautiful and super sturdy, and it holds its own right up there with OPI.
