A Perfect Coral Color: Chanel Glossimer in Gazelle

March 31st, 2008 by Karen 54 Comments

It’s lipgloss crack! That’s how I felt when I first peeped Chanel’s limited edition Glossimer in Gazelle ($26), a bronzy orange lipgloss with shimmery golden sparkles. I was instantly hooked.

Chanel Glosslimer Gazelle Swatch Makeup and Beauty Blog

Chanel describes Gazelle as a praline pink (huh?), but on my lips the color looks like coral with touches of bronze and gold. The shade is unlike the other coral colors in my lipgloss stash, like MAC’s Lychee Luxe and Sock Hop, which are mostly brighter orange tones. Gazelle feels more subdued and sophisticated, like the older, more worldly coral cousin (the one with the haughty accent) who went to finishing school.

Product: Chanel Glossimer in Gazelle
Price: $26
Use: To add shine and color to lips
Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A+++++

Gazelle was much easier for me to apply onto my lips than brighter lipgloss shades like MAC’s Style Minx Lipglass and its in-your-face fuschia. In my case, Gazelle is close enough to my natural lip color that I can skip applying lip liner entirely, which makes it ideal for days when I’m running late for work (like always).

Yes, at $26 Chanel Glossimers are pricey, but come on… it’s Chanel! Gazelle is totally worth it.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

oh yeah, one question – what shade of chanel glossimer should I buy if I am a chanel virgin, but still definitely a mac subscriber. I’m having trouble deciding between the shades. I’m a light to medium skinned 30 year old with dark hair and green eyes. Thanks for any suggestions you might have.

Yay! You got your Gazelle! 😀

This is a shade that really changes with the wearer! On me, it comes out a lightly bronzed coral with a noticeable pink sheen, much closer to a “praline pink”. This makes it very wearable even though I’m cool-toned and usually look pasty or jaundiced in corals or orange tones. This is my perfect shade for summer, since I can actually pair it with warmer, gold-kissed shades and not look washed out! Vive la Gazelle! 🙂

I’m very proud of myself. I just walked past the only store with a Chanel make-up counter that I know of here in Ghent. I repeat, I walked past it. If I work good today and tomorrow morning however, I’ll probaby go snag Gazelle anyways…

    Hi Julie,

My favorite Glossimers so far are Gazelle and Galactic. Galatic is an awesome sparkly shade that looks great with MAC Pink Treat Lipliner. Hmmm, maybe I’ll do a “Lip Look” post on it, ’cause I haven’t busted it out in a while. Anyway, I’m not usually a fan of big glitter but Galactic is like the *best* glitter lipgloss out there! I love it.

(oh, regarding the texture – Glossimers aren’t as sticky as Lipglasses!)

    Hope this helps. 🙂

    Hi Glosslizard,

Oh, I had a feeling that on you the pink tones would really come out (makeup intuition, I call it!). I think later on this week I’m going to pair it with a bronze or gold eye, Blacktrack liner on the waterline (both upper and lower), and *maybe* false lashes if I can get my shizz together in time to get out the door for work (ha!). What looks do you have lined up!

Guess what! My tabby friend stopped by today!

Grace and I are doing very well… Grace helped Mommy clean this morning… I can’t wait until she’s big enough to vacuum! Right now she follows behind me and pretends to dust and scrub the floors. It’s really cute!

I may have to check these out on my next trip to Macy’s or Von Maur…. they look delicious.

    Hi Tuprnut,

Oh, that’s so precious! 🙂 What a helpful girl! Awww…

Yeah, Chanel’s kinda pricey but for a once in a while luxury treat it’s nice. For the longest time I ignored the line until I saw a Glossimer (Astral) lipgloss on P-Hilt a few months ago. I swear that lipgloss was like my gateway drug!

Non-sticky, that’s why my MAC glosses seem to last forever. I apply a very sheer coat to combat the stickiness.

Girl, your makeup intuition is spot on (that’s why it costs me so much $$$ LOL!)

That sounds HAWT! I wanna see! I did a bronze-y (as bronze as I get, anyway) look with the Guerlain on the cheeks, Gazelle on the lips, a gold (Lemon Sugar again) and brown (from the Winter Nights quad) eye with a metallic brown (a Laura Mercier sample) liner and lush black eyelashes! It worked well, but it was still a little strange seeing me look so summery, since that’s not a look I can usually pull off! 🙂 I’m really gonna have fun playing with new colors!

    Yay! Stripey boy! =^..^=

    Hi Glosslizard,

LOL! But yer makeup looks fierce, and that’s priceless!

I will do that FOTD tomorrow or on Thursday. I took out the false lashes today and stared at them for a few minutes and was like, “HMMMM.” We’ll see!

New colors are always fun! It’s all about trying new things (plus it always washes off). 🙂

Oh the tabby visit was fun today! I busted out the toy I bought for him and he enjoyed that. He also ate treats straight out of my hand (awww). It was enough tabby fix for a few more days!

    Hi Alessette,

Nice to meet ya! I’m glad you picked up the oh-so-fierce Gazelle. As for the LE-ness of it, I am probably going to get an extra tube, and I’m not usually the type to do that. The only other time I wanted to do it was with the MAC Barbie Beauty Powders, and I’m still kicking myself for not buying backups. Not gonna let it happen this time! I think you have some time though, since it is a summer release and it’s early in the season. I’ve noticed at the Chanel counters around my ‘hood is that some LE’s are actually pretty easy to find, like Galactic. 🙂 Have you worn Gazelle yet? What do you plan on pairing it with?

    Hi Karen,
I’ve been wanting to try a Chanel glossimer for a long time and now have decided to actually buy one. I’m NC42 (MAC, if you’re familiar with their foundation), have black hair and brown eyes. My complexion is similar to yours. What color do you think would be a good one to start off with? I was thinking of buying Gazelle but, do you have any other recommendations?

I love your blog by the way and glad that you’re always updating.

When you do that FOTD (can’t wait!) please include any tips you have on applying false eyelashes! I’m gonna rock some for my birthday, but I’m a li’l scurred of having to put them on myself!

I do live by the “it can wash off” maxim! I go to the MA’s and I tell them “make it as wild as you want, I’ve got makeup remover!” LOL!

Treats right out of your hand? That is so cute!!!!

    Hi Marjorie,

I have a few that I love! I am usually not a big glitter kinda gal, but Chanel’s Glossimer glitter glosses are very tasteful (no chunky glitter… eww) and just plain beautiful. A few weeks ago I was all about Galactic, but these days I am loving on Equinoxe — it looks like a scary, glittery burgundy is the tube but applies as a mid tone pink on my lips and it ROCKS! Give Galactic a look too, as it’s very pretty to layer over pinks/mauves. 🙂

Oh, and thanks for the complement on the blog! Can you tell I’m crazy about makeup? LOLOL. What are your favorite brands/products, btw?

    Hi Glosslizard,

Okay, if I can actually pull off the lashes. I’ll only take pics if they turn out okay… if they are a hot mess then I’ll have to practice a bit more. 🙂

I remember you telling me about your birthday lashes! Work em! Do you have the Shu lash glue? Please say yes…

Yup, the striped beast eats right out of my hand. He’s the best cat ever, and I plot every day to capture him. In my heart, he’s so mine. (CCL! CCL!)

Karen- I feel the exact same way! Gazelle- had me at hello; you gorgeous thing forget about the price! I’m pretty obsessed about this color, only if wasn’t so darn expensive, I’d buy 10+! I’m pretty happy about their summer collection, as their previous collections didn’t do much for me.

I KNOW! I am going to get a backup and girrrrl, it just might make me clutch my heart to pay for it. But I love it too!

So question for you — does it show up as coral on you too?

Yes, absolutely coral. That is the fact I love about it. Gazelle is becoming quite the little cameleon! But, it’s Chanel, can we expect any less. 🙂

My lips don’t have alot of pigmentation so, I can get away with just the gazelle alone, which is great for summer. Don’t you love the coral colors? I really think they appeal to darker skin tones. I’m seriously obsessed with this color! Sometimes, it almost looks like a glaze after a couple of coats which is gorgeous. Does it have that same affect on you?
