Introducing Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder in New Translucent Medium Deep

New Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder in Medium Deep ($38)

I’m kindasorta (but not really) already looking forward to the end of the summer and wearing Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder in Translucent Medium Deep ($38), because by then I’ll have my full-on brown girl tan, and I’ll be able to wear this fabulous face powder.

A new addition to Laura’s permanent line, it’s a deeper version of her cult classic Translucent Loose Setting Powder.

This marvelous mattifying powder’s silky, velvety finish doesn’t scream, “Hey, world, I’m wearing makeup! LOOK AT IT!!!”

It’s too coy for that.

For the ultimate no-makeup makeup look

It’s comparable to Chanel’s powder (my loose powder holy grail) — similarly subtle finish and how it sits so closely to the skin. Both are beautiful powders if you’re into the no-makeup makeup thing.

I was really curious to try it in Medium Deep, because I’m a brown girl, after all, but it’s still a little too dark for my middle-of-winter-haven’t-seen-the-sun-in-months coloring. I think it’s right around perfect for the NW/NC 50s and up.

Oh, and FYI, I get the sense that this powder leans a little warm. When I wear it, I feel like my skin looks toastier, like it’s being bathed a bit in sunlight.

The verdict

This fantastic face powder will be an epic everyday workhorse, and it feels fabulous. It never feels heavy or like I’m wearing cake batter on my face. You don’t have to use a lot, either, and it doesn’t settle into my fine lines. Totally recommended for deeper skin tones.

I can’t wait to wear it when I have my toasty tan on. 🙂 See you in August, baby!

Being Mary Jane

Is anyone else watching the new season of Being Mary Jane? Is it just me, or doesn’t it seem like the directing or the style changed? It doesn’t seem as visually interesting as it was before.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Thanks for reviewing this. I’ve been waiting to see it in action on a similar skin tone as mine. I think it’s going to be too dark for me also which is a bummer cause I’d prefer a darker one than her lighter shade powder.
I agree with you on Being Mary Jane. I thought I was the only one who wasn’t intrigued by the show. I’ll of course continue to watch it for continuity but it’s definitely not as exciting as it used to be.

      Hi Bethany,

I wish Laura would do something in-between. Then it would be perfect! Not sure how you feel about Chanel, but they make a beautiful loose powder that’s similar. I wear the shade 40 Dore.

OK, so it’s not just me! I was wondering what was going on with the show. I miss seeing all the little things, like all of her Post-its (where did they go?). One of the reasons why I liked it was because the character development was so deep, and now it seems like they’re just moving the story along. Plus it was weird how they practically just scrapped all of last season’s story lines.

Thanks for the Chanel suggestion. I’ll definitely look into it.
As far as BMJ goes, I guess when she uprooted her life to move to NY she used it as a clean slate to forget or move on from her David and Lisa (and David/Lisa) issues. But I need a little more from it…

You’re welcome! I did a review on it a while back; here it is in case you want to check it out.

RE: BMJ. What I find odd is how abrupt the story lines shifted. Whatever happened to the Kara drama with the young news anchor? I need closure! Anyway, I’m anxious about her relationship with Lee. I’m happy that her character found someone and that it’s going well, but in these types of dramas, there’s ALWAYS something that happens to keep the main character from getting what she wants. I bet you David will be back in the picture soon.

Oh most definitely he’ll be back. I like Lee and love that he loves only her but it seems so safe for MJ. But safe can be nice also. We must dish after next weeks episode!

I only own a sample size of the original powder and even though I can only use a small brush with it I am in love and will purchase the full size.

I’ve been looking for a new face powder, but nothing sets my oily skin in the Southern humidity like Rimmel Stay Matte. I tried this powder in this original shade, but it simply didn’t keep the oil at bay for me. I was so disappointed!

Pray tell, what brushes do you use with your loose setting powders?

      Hi Erin,

I like a very transparent veil of powder because my skin is on the drier side, so I use a big fluffy powder brush and a light patting motion. What do you like to use to apply your powder?

Rimmel makes some amazing powder products for the price. I still love my Rimmel bronzer!

Ok, I use a big fluffy powder brush too. I actually really like one by ELF. My hunt for a very matte high end powder continues.

Have you ever tried Naked Skin Ultra Definition Loose Finishing Powder by Urban Decay? It is killer in terms of matte and controlling oil!

BMJ has a new director and writers this season and it shows. Mara Brock Akil, creator and former head writer, is no longer with the show.
