Tom Ford 2017 Summer Soleil Collection Skin Illuminator in Fire Lust

March 14th, 2017 by Karen 13 Comments

tom ford fire lust
Here I’m wearing Tom Ford Fire Lust Skin Illuminator (a.k.a. liquid highlighter) all over my face (my forehead, cheeks, nose, chin and jaw).

There’s a time in every woman’s life when she realizes, ya know, that she’s a grown-@ss woman. In my case, I don’t need to be walking around with my underwear hanging out my jeans, and I don’t need to be walking around with big ol’ chunks of rave/festival season glitter all over my face.

I mean, though, if gigantor glitter is your M.O., sh*t girl, don’t even listen to me. 🙂 You do you you. But for me and glitter, I like it to be fine (FOINE), and if it’s going anywhere other than my eyelids and lower lash lines, I like it to be subtle, which is why I love Tom Ford Skin Illuminator in Fire Lust ($50).

Get that “vacation skin”

Part of the Tom Ford 2017 Summer Soleil Collection available now, Fire Lust is a warm peach with golden pearl and the subtlest of subtle golden glitter pieces.

I’m talking the micro-ist of micro glitter, so that when you apply and blend it in, you get a very subtle, warm peachy, pearly glow with tiny glitter flecks scattered all over your skin, which, when glimpsed from various angles, gives a beautiful subtle glow, a.k.a. “vacation skin,” a.k.a. what my ideal skin situation would look like if I spent four weeks chillin’ on the Riviera.

Also wearing Kjaer Weis Cream Blush in Sun Touched on my cheeks, NARS Playpen on my lips and Tom Ford Young Adonis on my lids

FYI, “subtle” is key here. Like, when this first came out in 2013, I liked it then, but I didn’t love it as much as I do now because I think that I was into more of a center stage/spotlight highlight. Now, I prefer subtle, and the fact that this also has some quiet glitter makes it that much more appealing to me.

With Fire lust, try not to over-complicate things by layering it under full-coverage foundation and powder. I like to wear it on bare skin, so I just do a tiny pump, blend it in, and that’s it. Sometimes I’ll blend it into a tinted moisturizer, dot a bit of concealer under my eyes, fill in my brows, do a layer of waterproof mascara and maybe a cream blush and lipstick or gloss.

Most days, I’m quite content doing that kind of simple, elegant, non-fussy makeup look.

The final verdict

If you love high-end stuff and really, REALLY love a subtle highlight — I’m talkin’ Hourglass Ambient or MAC Strobe Cream level subtle — I think you’ll like Fire Lust; otherwise, it probably won’t do much for you.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I am all about that subtle Highlight, and I would be about chilling at the Riviera right now instead of sitting in my office. But even the Hourglass one is too much for me, I still am a matte lover at heart, velvet maybe, but anything more… Not on my face.

It looks lovely on you and on an everyday basis I like my highlight to be more subtle than intensely beaming one.

Another vote for subtle highlight. I have oily skin and my skin already shines if I don’t powder. Hourglass is my speed so this sounds great to me. Ugh why is it so expensive! Do you like it better than Hourglass?

Fire Lust has become a classic and for good reason. It is flattering on many different skin tones and it can be put to so many uses. It can be a highlighter, a blusher, or mixed into foundation to add overall warmth and glow and it is simply gorgeous on the eyes. It’s one of my favorite summer products. It reminds me of sitting on the beach after a hot sunny day and watching the sun set.

Tom Ford does these liquid, pearly products so well. I’m glad to see you’ve come around to appreciating the beauty of Fire Lust. Your healthy, I’ve-spent-the-day-in-the-sun glow is beautiful.

Looks beautiful on you! I love a bam in your face kinda’ highlighter. I have the Becca liquid skin perfector and the Giogio Armani glow–absolutely too subtle for me. I love Benefits high beam for a glow within look!

What a radiant effect, Karen! It’s nice and not too strong or unnatural 🙂

I’m not so sure I like a highlight as much as a subtle glow to my skin. Don’t like anything glittery or high beam. I prefer skin that looks like a healthy glow. I’ll have to check this out to see if it’s subtle enough for me.
    On you, it looks gorgeous!!

Ok I will not break the bank this time on Tom Ford, much as I like a highlighter! I’m looking forward to the Marc Jacobs Coconut Highlight and that would be my investment in a highlighter for the summer! 🙂

I think we’ve covered my feelings for Tom Ford. Always gorgeous product at a price that makes me hate him. HAHA! I’m 100% with you on the subtle glow, though.

You look great. I love the blush. What lip color are you wearing?

Thanks Gabby! It’s a good think you asked this question because I just realized that I labeled one of the pictures incorrectly! I’m wearing NARS Velvet Lip Glide in Playpen on my lips. 🙂 I put just a touch of it on then patted it down with a finger. If you have any other questions about it please let me know.

Would you say it’s exactly like the old fire lust just repackaged or has the product changed too? thank you
