Farmers’ Market Makeup Inspiration

April 25th, 2017 by Karen 12 Comments

After my last-minute, semi-emergency trip to the dentist last Saturday (turns out I have an incomplete fracture in a molar, which may or may not have been caused by grinding my teeth), I stopped by the Marin Country Mart where there was a farmers’ market, and by the time I left, I was 1) ravenous for salad and 2) inspired to try some new makeup color combinations.

Vegetables and bunches of flowers do it to me every time. Now I’m weirdly fired up to wear something radish-colored.

It got that part of my brain going that sees colorful carrots and thinks, “YES! Yellow in the crease, orange in the inner corners, magenta in the middle of the lid, purple in the outer corners and a little light green on the lower lash line.”

You know, because…carrots.

I saw a pile of grapefruit (grapefruits?) and immediately wanted to paint my nails a pale yellow (which I may or may not be doing right meow).

Speaking of citrus, have you ever seen these before? They’re called Buddha’s Hands.

Aren’t they neat? I’ve never tasted them before, so I don’t know if they’re sweet or sour, but apparently they’re a type of citrus (they’re about the size of a gigantic lemon). I asked the guy running the stall what people do with them, and he said that people use them for all kinds of things, but especially to make drinks, candy and jam.

I got lots of ideas at the farmers’ market for all kinds of things.

Is there a good farmers’ market where you live?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

What gorgeous flowers! It’s always amazing to me the variety of shades found in nature. I love seeing all the fresh produce. It inspires me to to want to eat healthier. But sometimes there are tables with fresh jelly and homemade bread, so I have to indulge a little too. 🙂

I like to go early in the morning when the fresh baked goods arrive. They’re still warm from the oven and smell like heaven! I purchase a coffee and goodie and go sit somewhere out of the way while the vendors finish setting up their stalls. Best breakfast ever 😉 As for the preserves, I’ve gotten some amazing ones at the farmers markets. Last year I got an apricot ginger that was out of this world; especially on homemade scones.

I live in a small agricultural valley surrounded by other agricultural valleys so we have wonderful road side stands and farmers markets in the cities that showcase an abundance of inspiration. In addition to all our seasonal local produce, we have vendors come in from all over California with their specialty products. I love watching people strolling from stand to stand, interacting with the sellers. And, of course, the seasonal color displays of veggies, fruits, nuts, and flowers is breathtaking–at least to this vegetarian! LOL

We have one every Saturday, but it isn’t very big. And I never left inspired for makeup, I don’t think I have the artists eye for that. I always leave craving food.

I used to love to go to the Union Square Farmer’s Market on Saturday mornings when we lived in the city. The selection of produce, breads, fresh eggs and poultry products like pheasant sausage were amazing. Once in a while, you could spot a celebrity chef or two getting some produce. The farmer’s market here in Westfield is not that exciting, however, there are some farm stands and food shops aside from the supermarkets that are really good. haven’t gotten makeup idea from them, but definitely gotten ideas for meals.

OMGosh! Quince! There’s still quince available somewhere? (I think of it as a fall/winter fruit). I love lamb cooked with quince and pomegranate.
What a gorgeous farmers market you have.

I was wondering what to do with quince. If you come up to Larkspur to see me on May 6 the farmers’ market should be there! Come up, come up!

Dear Husband keeps talking about taking an impromptu trip while he still has income. But he hasn’t booked anything yet. So if I’m around I’ll come up. I need to drive up to San Bruno anyway to feed Dear Daughter’s cat while she’s in Rome, so I’ll be half way there anyway.

Ah! It’s still rainy here in Raincouver. I get the same way when I go to farmer’s markets. I get inspired by nature and always want to wear lots of colors and prints.

I live in Germany, the farmer’s markets here are so good! My favorite thing that I have to get each week are green olives that have been marinated in lemons and garlic. OMG, they are so good. I also pick up some fresh olive spread for veggies and crackers, local honey, bread, veggies, and fruit.
