Unsung Makeup Heroes: Hourglass Girl Lip Stylo in Explorer

Praise be to coral lipstick! Hourglass Girl Lip Stylo in Explorer is errrrrrthang

The long-running Unsung Heroes series here on Makeup and Beauty Blog features some of our all-time favorite permanent collection products.

You know when you’re standing in the middle of Sephora, carrying as much as you can possibly carry in your paws, but you see one more coral lipstick that makes your eyes light up, and you think, “Oh, boy, I dunno… I’ve already got too much. Do I really need another coral lipstick??”

GIRL. The answer is yes. The answer is always yes. 🙂

I keep finding myself reaching for Hourglass Girl Lip Stylo in Explorer on my lady dates lately. It’s a soft pinkish coral. It’s not a super bright orange-y coral, so it doesn’t go into costume/vintage territory…which can be a totally kick-@ss look, for sure, but I have to be in the mood for it.

I think it’s an awesome everyday neutral.

The Girl Lip Stylos are $32 each, so they’re definitely on the expensive side, but if you have dry lips (which I do!), or, if you can’t stand it when your lipstick breaks up or gets patchy or latches on to your flakes, or if you just like easy-to-apply, low-maintenance lipsticks that you can throw on anywhere, even while you’re crossing Market Street in SF, which I totally did last weekend, they’re beyond great!

Creamy and oh, so hydrating, they feel fantastic on my lips (they’re unflavored and unscented, by the way), and they last about three hours.

Oh, and get this: even though I’ve owned Explorer for months and have worn it dozens of times, the pencil tip hasn’t flattened. It’s still pointy! I don’t know what kind of makeup voodoo is at work, but whatever Hourglass did, something is keeping the tip pointy.

By the way, if you have the BECCA X Chrissy Teigan Palette, you absolutely need Explorer! YES, YOU NEED IT. The two make beautiful music together.

Senita shorts

OK, I thought this was funny. When my friend Jen asked what I’ve been doing to exercise these days, I told her about those HIIT classes I go to twice a week and said they were both wonderful and terrible at the same time, to which she said, “That sounds like something you’d say.”

Haha! It’s so true, though. I’d rather have a brutal workout than a boring one.

Anyway, I wore the new Senita workout shorts I bought last week (they’re the ones with the compression layer under the actual shorts). Thankfully, my booty cheeks didn’t flash anyone when I was doing burpies, yay!

At least I don’t think they did… Hmm…

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I feel you on the flashing part, especially in the heat burpees do that to you. I am still relying on long pants, but that will not work much longer…

I’ve heard so many good things about the Lip Stylos. I just wish they weren’t so expensive!

      Hi Kristen,

I feel you. Everything Hourglass does is pretty pricey but I think the quality is definitely there. One of these Stylos, even if you use it often, should last a while, too! I honestly can’t believe that I haven’t worn down the tip yet.

Happy Tuesday to you. How’s your day going so far?

I got a 100 point reward at Sephora of one of the Girl Lip Stylos in Peacemaker a few days ago! The formula is really quite nice.

      I like that shade!

I can see you in one of the fun reds from the line. 🙂

You make me laugh with the coral. 🙂 My big, thrilling lip product has been Smith’s Rosebud Salve. I like to take risks with, you know, clear lip products. HAHA! It’s really very moisturizing, though. I’d never tried it before and it’s a winner for me.

      Hi Kim,

Smith’s Rosebud! Old school. 🙂 You can switch it up by layering it on top of different lip liners. Fancy, I know!

Those shorts are cute and a great price, too!
I’ve been on the fence about getting a Lip Stylo for a WHILE now because of the price, not knowing if it would be worth it…I may as well give it a try, though!! =)

      Hi Lex,

I hope you do! They’re pricey but such good quality. There’s a ton of other colors too in addition to the coral.

Love the Hourglass Lip Stylos. I want more colors, but my wallet does not.
