Take Some Time to Rest Soon

September 26th, 2017 by Karen 12 Comments

Sometimes you’ve gotta press pause/paws.

This is partially a reminder for you, but mostly a reminder for me, that sometimes — my goodness — you gotta press pause, because rest is so vital!

I know I’ve said this before, so I’m momentarily reverting to Karen’s Broken Record Mode, but I’m always forgetting these important things, ya know? Something erases important life lessons from my mind, but then I remember them — like how important it is to reserve blocks of time for yourself to recharge your body, your spirit and your mind.

Especially when you know you’re going to have a hard week, or if you have a lot of deadlines coming up, sneak in some time to rest when you can, or to do a little something that rejuvenates you, even if it’s just to make a plan to do something relaxing a week from now.

Yes, I know it’s easier said than done, but life is short. You deserve to enjoy it.

Like on Sunday, El Hub and I took the baby out for a long walk (we got lost). When we got home, I was dog tired, but I unconsciously started being productive again as soon as the door closed. Then El Hub stopped me and said, “Why don’t you just take some time to lay on the couch and watch Amelie? Maybe go get a frozen yogurt and take a nap.”

For some reason, that sounded really, really great. So I did it. I went to the fro-yo shop, got my favorite flavor (taro), put a boat load of berries on top and came home.

Classic!

El Hub took over baby duty for a few hours, and I just chilled and watched Amelie, ate my frozen yogurt and fell asleep on the couch during the part when Amelie’s love interest realizes that the guy who takes pictures of himself at all of the train station photo booths is the repair guy and not someone lost in an existential crisis.

I felt like a completely new person afterward, so yeah, in case no one has reminded you lately, try to schedule some time to rest soon. It’ll do your spirit a world of good.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

This is such an important reminder. I’ve been on overdrive with wedding planning and work. Last week I wasn’t feeling that well but was determined to still go to work, but I finally relented and took a sick day. It was the best thing I could’ve done! Being able to spend a day resting and relaxing was just what I needed.

      Hi Kristen,

Wedding planning is exhausting! I totally remember being bogged down in details, like, all the time. Are you handling the planning yourself, or do you have help?

Fortunately we have a day-of coordinator who is going above and beyond her duties, so we’re very grateful!

I love that movie. Excellent choice. 🙂 I’m the opposite, though. I feel better if I’m tired but force myself to get things done. When I lay around, I just feel worse and more sluggish. Same for when I’m getting sick. Working out usually kicks it quickly. Resting lets it move right in and make itself at home. HAHA! I think it’s like how some people can take a 15 minute nap and feel great. If I take a 15 minute nap, I might as well go to bed and stay there because I’m even MORE tired afterward. Which is unfortunate because I love both sleeping and lounging around being unproductive!!

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve watched it. It never gets old!

        Agreed – it’s just as wonderful/magical every time. 🙂

My husband will remind me from time to time to take a rest, especially on the weekends when I catch up on my part of the house work. I try to take a break, but if I nap too long, I have trouble sleeping at night. I do take a short nap when possible and get back to the chores.
Anyway, I am very disappointed because I went to use my Premier Cream shadow this morning for the first time in a while. The entire amount in the pot just flaked right out all over the bathroom sink. I figured that Chanel would make a better quality product. I really loved that shade, but it was alot of money and I will not be replacing it.
    Hope your day is better.

Aww, that’s a bummer. Are you sure you don’t want to bring it back in for an exchange? Maybe they’ll do it!

If kids would only realize how fantastic naps really are… 🙂

Just today, I was trying to meal plan for next month, but I had a wicked sinus headache. So I laid down and c-r-a-s-h-e-d for 1 1/2 hours. I feel better than I have in days.

Right? I would love to take a two-hour afternoon nap everyday between 1-3!

Do you usually plan your entire month’s meals out? I am in awe! I can barely do a week’s worth of meal planning. What’s your secret?

I use 14 theme nights, so for example, I know that the first and third Tuesday nights will be something in the slow cooker. And the second and fourth Monday nights are pizza. (I have my Pinterest boards set up to match the different themes.) I build in a few nights for eating out. And I have a binder with recipes we’ve tried and loved, so I can just grab one to mix in with new recipes.

It’s not my favorite job, but it’s a two hour round trip to decent stores, so the trip has to be worth my while. The downside of small town life. I set aside a day and go to Publix, Sam’s, Trader Joe’s, and Whole Foods. (And of course Homegoods, lol.)

I am completely with you, but that requires someone to actually take care of the kids while you are resting, and more often than not my husband isn´t there. And if he is, he has probably worked throught the night. I can´t remember the last time I spend the afternoon, or even two hours, on the sofa. The only time I get to do that is in the evenings, and that is when I usually get my blog work done.
Which I could totally quit, it is a hobby after all, but still…
