On Wednesdays We Wear Pink (and Purple)

It’s a pink hump day party with IGK Girls Club Color Spray, MAC Pinklite Strobe Cream and BECCA Pink Haze Soft Blurring Powder.

In the wise words of the Mean Girls movie, “On Wednesdays we wear pink,” and whoops! — sometimes purple, thanks to this temporary hair color spray by IGK, Girls Club ($19), which looks more like purple in my hair.

I call this pose “Purple-haired girl gazes out window.”

I like it, though. It smells like too-sweet bubblegum, and I have to use about half a can before the color really comes through, but I still think it’s fun, especially on mornings when the thought of covering my salt-and-pepper roots with regular ol’ root spray (I use the one by Rita Hazan) is just waaaaaay too depressing.

Even though I have to use a lot, so it’s not something I’ll do every day (because it’s $19), I think it’s better than most of the temporary hair color sprays I’ve used. It doesn’t make my hair feel crunchy (YAY!), and it’s easy to wash out.

OH, EM GEE, change my world, why don’t you?! BECCA Pink Haze Soft Blurring Powder ($38) is a loose makeup setting powder with a sheer pearly pink tint, and it subtly brightens your face, but you can’t, like, really tell when you first put it on. It takes 10-15 minutes before it seems to settle on the skin. Then you can see the subtle soft pink pearl reflecting in the light.

I’m wearing a 50/50 blend of MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation in NC 42 and MAC Pinklite Strobe Cream on my face. The lipstick is MAC Patisserie, and the blush is Neutrogena Skin in Vibrant.

This powder looks amazing in pics, but it looks more amazing in real life, because the blurring effect is UNREAL. I’m serious, it’s not playin’ around. I know it’s cliche, but I’m saying it anyway: Instagram filter.

Hello, old-school fave! 🙂 MAC Pinklite Strobe Cream ($33) is just the original MAC Strobe Cream with a different name, and I’ve been wearing and loving that pearly pink glow for years.

It fell off my radar for a while, but I rediscovered it again. I like it on bare skin, but I love the way it looks mixed with equal parts foundation or BB cream.

It has a similarly subtle, glowing opalescent effect as BECCA Pink Haze Powder.

Here’s to pink (and purple) Wednesdays, friend.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I like the idea of a spray in crazy hair color because gone are the days where I would actually dye my hair crazy colors! (My mom HATED that phase, lol!) Side note, I am wearing pink on my cheeks because they are dry and flakey and its not even winter yet! What is a good creamy moisturizer you recommend for dry skin? Preferably something reasonably priced but I’m willing to throw down if the stuff works!

I have pretty dry and red cheeks (well, all over face lol). My favorites are Paula’s Choice Resist Barrier Repair Moisturizer with Retinol and Belif The True Cream Moisturizing Bomb (the gel form of this is also really nice and works if you need something that is slightly less moisturizing). I hope you’re able to find something that works!

Thanks for the tips! I’ve been reading/hearing good things about Paula’s Choice products.

      Hi Rachel,

I’ve used moisturizers from Olay and Neutrogena and they were all pretty good, but not nearly moisturizing enough to make the tightness subside. I always felt I had to add more, so sometimes I’d mix a face oil into it and that helps up the moisture. When my skin really hurts, though, I’ve had the best luck with the Clarins. I use the ones in the blue jars during winter (Hydra Beauty). I’ve also used the Multi Active for dry skin and liked it too. The Clarins moisturizers are about $50, which is pretty expensive, so I stock up usually when I can get them on sale during Sephora VIB. Another great one that I love is MAC Comfort Creme. VERY moisturizing, and in the $30 price range.

Thanks for the advice! Everything I’ve used from Clarins I’ve really liked, so it’s probably worth the money!

Ooooh, the pink looks fab in your hair Karen! Pity the can doesn’t go a bit further though. I’m not super keen on loose powders, I always make a big mess with them (except for the Rouge Bunny Rouge Impalpable Finishing Powder because it has a really good dispenser) but I love the look of Becca Pink Haze! This is their only Blurring Powder isn’t it?

Becca also has a bronzey-colored one in the same kind of package, but I forget what it’s called… they claimed it would warm up any skin tone super subtly as opposed to the pink one’s claim of brightening, but the warm one was waayy too much color for my pale face. other people seemed to like it, tho!

Ah OK. I didn’t realise they had another one. Yes, sounds like it might be a bit too much for my face too. Thank you jonirae!

I like the purple hair! And you know I’m all about the blurring so I’m adding the Becca powder to my list. It’s a good thing my phone has a lot of storage. That list is getting long. 🙂
