Origins Original Skin Cleansing Makeup Removing Jelly With Willowherb ($23 for a 3.4-oz bottle)

Good luck trying to resist singing Bootylicious while you’re taking off your makeup with this.

Because…

I don’t think you’re ready for this jelly.
I don’t think you’re ready for this jelly.
I don’t think you’re ready for this…
‘Cause my body too bootylicious for ya, babe.

I’m probably the only person on earth who hoped Origins Original Skin Cleansing Makeup Removing Jelly With Willowherb would smell like popcorn jelly beans, which are my favorite flavor, a fact that my brother, the family’s resident jelly bean enthusiast, thinks is totally cray (he also assures me that disliking popcorn jelly beans is a thing), but alas…it’s unscented.

The “jelly” in the name refers to the texture, because this stuff looks and feels like a hair gel, but not a sticky one like the Depp you used for that extra crispy crunch in your spiral perm back in the day. 🙂

…for this jelly.

Basically, it’s a oil-based makeup remover designed to deliver some skin care benefits, and when I saw that it has willowherb, that piqued my interest.

Among other things (not all of them natural), this has willowherb and rock rose, plant extracts that are supposed to help with evening out your skin tone and reducing hyper-pigmentation.

Now, would I rely on this product alone to even out my skin tone? Not hardly. It’s on your face for, what, a minute? Maybe two? And then you just rinse it off, and in my experience, when it comes to reducing hyper-pigmentation, my best results have come from acid serums and toners that stayed on my skin for an extended period, day after day.

But I like that Origins made an effort.

To remove your makeup with it, apply a dollop of the silky, lightweight gel on dry skin, then gently massage it all over your face (I even use it on my lids and lashes), at which point the formula starts breaking down your makeup. Then, add a splash of water to emulsify the gel into a thin, milky cleanser, and rinse off.

Followup with a second cleanser/face wash.

Origins Original Skin Cleansing Makeup Removing Jelly With Willowherb ingredients:

Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Isopropyl Palmitate, Hydrogenated Polydecene, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Glycerin, Isononyl Isononanoate, Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate, Water\Aqua\Eau, Polyglyceryl-10 Oleate, Epilobium Angustifolium Flower\Leaf\Stem Extract, Cistus Incanus Flower/Leaf/Stem Extract, Albizia Julibrissin Bark Extract, Polyglyceryl-10 Pentaoleate, Butylene Glycol, Polyglyceryl-6 Distearate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Peg-7m, Citric Acid, Bht, Sodium Citrate, Disodium Edta, Potassium Sorbate

Between the first cleanse with the jelly and my second cleanse with my straight-up face wash, I usually take a Shiseido Facial Cotton pad soaked with Clinique Take the Day Off Eye Makeup Remover to finish off any leftover mascara and liner, since the jelly usually misses some bits and bobs.

Overall, this is easy and kinda fun to use, especially when you add the water and it takes on a milky texture. As an oil-based cleanser, it’s also pretty effective, but…(because there’s always a but) my combo skin feels a little dry and tight after I rinse it off, and I still do need to finish with another cleanser.

Plus, I actually like oil-based cleansers that leave behind a moisturizing layer/film, which is something this doesn’t do. Especially in winter, when my skin is hella thirsty.

For now, I think I’ll stick to DHC’s Deep Cleansing Oil, which removes everything for me, including mascara and eyeliner (whereas this needs a little extra help), but it doesn’t dry out my skin.

A 3.4-oz. tube of Origins Original Skin Cleansing Makeup Removing Jelly With Willowherb is $23, which is a few bucks less than DHC Deep Cleansing Oil. If you’re interested, you can find it now in the Origins permanent line.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

This sounded so perfect but I also like a little bit if oil to be left behind. Bummer, because I was so ready for this jelly!

Thanks for the review! I would also expect an oil based cleanser to leave a little bit of moisture behind. I know what you mean by that tight and dry feeling. I never tried the DHC Deep Cleansing oil, but it sounds like a good product!

Bummer that it needs a bit of help because it looks and sounds pretty cool to use. 🙂 I don’t know if I told you but, based on the comments a couple of weeks ago, I ordered the SkinMedic Retinol 0.5 and it’s been a winner for me. I’ve only used it 3 times so far but can already see some results in clearer pores and finer, fine lines. It was a great rec so thanks to you and the other commenters!
