Viva l’Italia! Anybody wanna go to Naples? This afternoon…? We can tell our families that Lucia Pica and Chanel made us do it. I can pack a bag and be ready to go in an hour…

YEAH, RIGHT! Who am I kidding? You know it would take me at least a half a day to pack my makeup.

OK, maybe a full day. ?

Lucia is shaking things up at Chanel with all kinds of color, and her latest collection, Spring-Summer 2018, is a shout-out to her hometown of Naples, Italy.

If Naples looks anything like the blues, greens, reds and yellows in this launch, I could easily fall in love with it. So let’s go, yeah? If you know a good travel agent, call her and get the hookup! Girls trip, April 2018! ?✈️?

OK, back to reality…

Spring-Summer 2018 is a pretty big launch, and so far I know I like the eyeshadow palette and the green liner.

Here are some quick thoughts on the other pieces I’ve tried (some which I like more than others).

Ombre Premiere Longwear Cream Eyeshadow in 824 Verderame ($36, limited edition)

824 Verderame reminds me of a metallic cream version of MAC Club eyeshadow, but without the brown, and I love it with a matte brown in the crease, and either a charcoal or dark green liner on the water lines. It’s pigmented and GORGEOUS. It also dries in less than 30 seconds, so don’t dilly-dally! — or you’ll end up with harsh edges (a lesson I learned the hard way). Keep the small white brush that comes with the pot, too, because it’s surprisingly great and easy to use. The bristles deposit lots of color.

Rouge Coco Gloss Moisturizing Glossimer in 794 Poppea ($30, limited edition) and 792 Aphrodite ($30, permanent)

These are two of the four glosses in the collection. They’re shiny, moisturizing, non-sticky, and they briefly taste and smell like roses when you put them on.

My favorite is sheer poppy red Poppea, which I ?. It looks like a coral tint on my lips, and it’s low-maintenance, playful and summery.

As for the blue gloss, it looks cool in the tube (and blue glosses are supposed to make your teeth look whiter), but I can’t see the tint at all on my lips…so it’s basically like wearing a $30 clear gloss.

You can pass on this one without feeling like you missed out…

BTW, I’m weirdly obsessed with these doe foots (doe feet?)! They’re shaped like little boat oars and feel fab on my lips for some reason.

I don’t know why I even bother with other mascaras because Chanel’s are SO GOOD. One coat of Nero Metallo is like three coats of most other mascaras. It specializes in volume, separation and curl hold.

If Le Volume is your date-night mascara, Nero Metallo would be your daytime, workday version.

Chanel describes the color as metallic gray, and I can kinda see it when I swatch it on my skin, but I can’t really see the gray on my lashes.

I’m in love with this formula, though, and plan to get it in Noir (basic black) as soon as I finish this tube. It’s easy to remove, doesn’t flake, and it doesn’t smudge either. All around, it rocks!

Rouge Allure Velvet in 66 L’Indomabile ($37, permanent)

Lucia Pica loves a red ? lippie, and this one is a pigmented poppy with a finish that looks like brushed suede. I think it looks a lot like MAC Fashion Legacy with a shinier, more velvety finish, and it’s also, um…how should I put this? Less aggressive? Less intense? More like the soft matte finish on an eggshell.

Anyway, I hoard reds, so of course I love it. LOL!

The Rouge Allure Velvets have my favorite Chanel lipstick formula because of how smooth, light and comfy they feel. They aren’t too drying, and I love that the finish is matte, but it isn’t too matte, if you know what I mean.

Adding this to my go-to red lip bag.

Oh man. I just can’t hop the Chanel train, because I know when I do, I’ll never get off!! These pieces look so gorgeous, though. Maybe I’ll dip my toe in with the mascara…. (see! Goshdarnit, that’s how it starts.)

      Hi Shannon,

But it’s such a good train to be on! You have to check out Malice blush. It’s an every day kinda thing, because I figure if you’re going to do expensive makeup, you might as well go for things you can wear all the time. As for mascara, Chanel Le Volume is a classic! This one is great too.

What a fun collection! I love the lip colors and the eye shadow. I like the look you did with the shadow and neutral lip. Happy Friday and happy birthday Miss Connor Claire! She is looking so grown up. 🙂

      Hi Ruchita,

It does feel fun. I really like the sense of play Lucia Pica does with color. Nothing is too serious, ya know, but it still feels approachable and wearable.

Happy Friday to you, too! Here’s something you’ll appreciate about those cat ears. Whenever she wears them, she walks around the house saying, “I’m a cat! I’m a cat! I’m a cat!” She’s also so kind to her big brother Tabs. She pets him gently and whenever we go into a room where he’s napping, she walks up to him, says hi, and gives him a kiss on the head.

Aww, that is so adorable how she gives Tabs kisses! My heart would melt with that level of cuteness. Hope you have a great weekend!

GAH! Today’s the day! She looks so grown up already. Love the kitty ears, of course. And one of my boys still looks like that after he eats, so you might have years of chocolate mouth to look forward to. 🙂 Happy, Happy Birthday to Connor!!!! <3

That red lip is gorgeous on you, of course! Le Volume is my 2nd fave so I'm a Chanel mascara fan, too. Actually, if I'd have checked the mail yesterday, I could have told you how the Japanese volumizing/waterproof mascara was (Kissme Isehan Kiss Me Heroine – it's so cumbersome, I always have to look it up).

Before you decide to go to Naples, watch Gomorrah on Netflix. 😉 But I wish you were going to Bologna again this year!

      Hi Kim,

I seriously don’t know how these two years passed. I blinked and they flew by! Seems like only yesterday when I was half asleep during the daytime and out of my mind. LOL

I know that you don’t mess around when it comes to mascara. 🙂

While you’re in Italy be sure to pick up some makeup from Madina if you can! The Crystal Glass Powder is supposed to be epic.

RE: Gomorrah — that’s the series, right? I know there’s a film by the same name.

Oh, sorry, yes, the series. I haven’t seen the movie.

I’m sorry to report that the mascara was not a hit for me. The tube felt empty and I had to shake it very aggressively and swipe the wand on the neck to get any product on it. It definitely burns the eyes while applying (but I was fine wearing it and didn’t tear up – I think it’s good to mention since I know your eyes are sensitive). Once I got a couple of layers on, it looked OK. More lengthening than volumizing for me. I will say that it stuck like glue all day and is definitely waterproof. Though, it was easily removed with some Tatcha oil. I almost never return things but this is going back (mainly for the mostly empty tube issue). 🙁

OK, got it on my list. Do you guys have Amazon Prime Video? I started watching a show called Humans that you might like!

Bummer about the mascara. What was up with that crazy tube?!

We do – thank you for reminding me about Humans. I was meaning to check it out. Just a warning on Gomorrah, it’s very violent and there are no truly likable characters. I’m currently watching Frankenstein Chronicles, but only for Sean Bean. HAHA!

I don’t know! I was so disappointed. I can’t return it but left a review so the seller would be aware (the seller feedback didn’t have enough characters to explain the issue). Well, I guess I could have written “tube was empty”. 🙂 I think the formula would be good for people without sensitive eyes who wanted length over volume and a mascara that’s waterproof. If there was actually mascara in the tube!

PS I made a note about Madina and the powder. I’ll look for it for sure.

Happy birthday, Connor Claire! She is so precious. And what a great sharer! My daughter will be four next month, and it just seems to go even faster now that she’s in preschool every day. Two was an absolute blast. Every phase is fun in its own way, but I just loved two so much. Don’t let anyone scare you about terrible twos. They’re terrific!

Happy Birthday to Connor Claire! How sweet that she shared with her bear AND with her mommy! How very kind!
Love Dimensions de Chanel mascara, just wish Nordstrom carried it. Barney’s has it, but only in black and I love it in brown for the daytime.
How would you describe Malice blush? Because the color swatches on the Chanel website are just plain awful.

I am tempted by the cream shadow, I adore MAC Club, so something similar in cream form would be amazing.
