The NARS NARSissist Wanted Power Pack Lip Kit in Hot Reds

March 13th, 2018 by Karen 15 Comments

nars wanted power pack lip kit hot reds
$26 for two 0.09-oz. mini NARS Powermattes

When my friend/red lipstick kindred spirit Alis cuts my hair and we get to talking about red lipstick, girl, time ceases to exist. I’m not kidding, seasons will change! We’ll spend 15 minutes deconstructing minute details, like the differences between NARS Red Square and NARS Dragon Roll Girl, or MAC Russian Red and MAC Red. She’s that person in my life!

She’s precisely the kind of makeup lover the new NARS NARSissist Wanted Power Pack Lip Kit in Hot Red was made for, because, at first glance, both of the red liquid lipsticks in it probably look more or less the same to most peeps — but they definitely do NOT look the same to members of #teamredlips like Alis. If you’re a red lippie lover, you probably already noticed that Cherry Bomb is cooler and bluer than Don’t Stop, which is warmer and yellower.

Really, they’re totally different!

The $26 kit, one of three (the others are Warm Nudes and Cool Nudes), is coming March 18th to Ulta. Each one contains two mini liquid lipsticks from the groundbreaking NARS Powermatte liquid lipstick line.

Only thing is, these diminutive versions leave my lips feeling noticeably drier than the NARS reds in the permanent collection. I rock those all the time without any issues…

Still, the colors are drop-dead gorgeous, so you might not mind, especially if you’re a die-hard NARSissist. After all, Cherry Bomb is new, limited edition, and exclusive to this set.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Hmmmm . . . although the Powermattes aren’t my favorites, this set might haunt me . . . I’m just all about the RED ALL the time LOL!

Totally feel you, Cindy. There’s something so powerful yet timeless about a red lip. Do you have a fave red? I’ve been really into MAC Relentlessly Red for a minute now!

I’m all about NARS Dragon Girl and MAC Anything Goes! Also love Dior Diorific Kohl 751 (don’t know if it has a name), Bare Minerals matte in VIP, MAC Patrick Woo, and my all-time favorites are MAC Ruby Woo and Kat Von D Underage Red (I still have my original, can’t beat it for staying power!!).

I missed commenting on the Powermate mini nudes post. I have been curious about these, but when I hear liquid matte, I assume it means very dry. The minis, especially the reds, might be a fun way to try a red lip if you never wear reds but want one in your collection. I was recently at my local Ulta buying some skincare when I saw they had MAC mini lip color in Velvet Teddy and Russian Red (?). I bought VT, but nit the red. I may just go back and get it for $10. I may check these out when they come to Ulta.
BTW, I am loving the Hourglass Graphik eyeshadow palette. I bought the one called Ravine which are neutrals with 3 matte and 2 shimmery satins. I am loving the gold shade. The were a splurge, but I can see using all 5 shades.

Finally gotten rid of the snow, now the debris needs to be collected. Hope all is well.

      Hi Jane,

It’s good to hear from you. When you try Velvet Teddy you’ll have to let me know what you think. With the MAC liquid lipsticks I find that less is more! I try to get away with as little bit as possible, otherwise it can start to look heavy.

I’ve been eyeing the new Graphik palettes for a while now! I have a few of the previous ones and like them (I don’t know why they got such a bad rap). What made you decide to take the leap?

I can tell the difference in nail polish colors like that. I know if one shade of nude has 4 more molecules of brown in the bottle than the other one does. So I have (ahem) “a collection” of nail polish colors because each one is “so different” from the others. HAHAHAHA

My husband complains about the number of red lipsticks I own. He’s like they’re all the same red. And I’m like, “Are you color blind? They all different. One is a yellow red, another is blue red, another is slightly shimmery.”
I have a collection of nail polish like that too. I keep saying I’m going to pare down to the best red, the best pink, the best nude, etc., but I just can’t seem to do it.

DUDES! *rolls eyes* Honestly though I am constantly explaining lipstick nuances to the hubs. It’s like my fourth (fifth?) job. 🙂

What is your fave nail polish shade these days? I just painted mine with a creamy mint blue from Chanel.

If I put any color on my nails, it never fails that I’m having to do things at work that mess them up the very first day. I can put colors on my toes but my fingers are either bare or at best a subtle nude color. That’s why I “need” to have (*cough*) “a few” different nude colors.

I’m not wearing anything right now because I polished them too many weeks in a row, so now they’re all dried out, ridged and peeling like crazy. I’ve been going at them with nail and cuticle oil and hand cream to no avail. I just have to wait for them to grow out again. I just joined a facebook group called “Hella Handmade Creations”. They join up with indie polish makers to create custom polishes. I just got a polish from the January sale and it’s called “189 Feet Tall” (after Cinderalla’s castle in Disneyland). It’s this pale gray blue, shimmery, holographic thing. When I wear it, I can’t stop staring at my nails. Lame I know. But the color really is mesmerizing.

Oh I forgot to mention, the maker is Cupcake Polish and she has a website where you can buy other polishes she’s created directly from her. Sorry to be an enabler, but… you know, pretty polish!
