Does Your Skin Change With the Seasons?

May 4th, 2018 by Karen 9 Comments

Girl, yes. So. Much. Yes.

The funny thing is, or at least the cruelly ironic thing is, that it didn’t change much at all that I can remember when I was in my teens and 20s. I used to have much oilier skin then and got frequent breakouts all year round. That was the status quo for about the first half of my life.

Sh*t got real in my mid-30s, and now I feel the seasons in my pores, LOL!

I’m probably also hyper aware of my skin now, whereas I didn’t think about it much back in the day, but as the temperature and the humidity changes, and yes, even in California we do have seasons. 🙂 But yeah, when the seasons change, my skin freaks out.

My skin is definitely feeling the effects of spring right now. First, I’m taking allergy meds, which are making my skin even drier than usual, and I’ve also been getting hives that pop up at the most inopportune moments, like right when I have to meet somebody for the first time, and I’ve got a big-@ss red bump on my left cheek the size of my fist.

Second, because it gets really windy here in spring, I get windburn, and my skin physically hurts. It feels tight and kind of taught. It’s like a sunburn. 🙁
Yeah, my hives are no joke.

So, long story short, yes, my skin changes with the seasons, and I have to adjust my skin care and my makeup (mainly my base makeup, like primers, foundations and powders) accordingly.

How about you? Does your skin change with the seasons?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

My skin definitely changes – I live in SE Michigan, winters are very dry and cold, summers are humid. I prefer summer because winter makes my skin so dehydrated, but I sweat heavily, which can be a problem.

Seasons not so much as age! I do think allergy meds dry my skin a bit too. I don’t take them very often so I notice when I do. To counter the dry skin, I’ve been applying Trader Joe’s Argan oil morning and night and it seems to help. I started using an eye cream too–although I haven’t been very consistent with that.

I feel your pain! I have combo skin so in the winter I get really dry skin on my cheeks, nose and undereyes, but then during the summer I get oily all over. I’m also fair skinned so during the summer I have to layer on the sunscreen and hats or else I’m walking around with a red face.

Not that much. In very cold winters it feels more normal, maybe slightly dehydrated and the warmer it gets, the oilier it is. Yes, still, even though I will turn 40 next year.

Hey Karen, hope you’re doing well! Haven’t been around here in a while. 🙂 Yep, I’m the same as everybody else. When it gets (somewhat) warmer in Scotland, I get oilier than usual. But in winter… completely different story. I feel like I need several creams and oils to cope with dryness – and on occasion even just raw shea butter, especially for the area around my laugh lines which for some reason gets drier than anywhere else!

Nice to see you! How are things on your end of the keyboard? Good I hope!

Heya!! Well, still very busy – submitted my thesis about 1 month ago, and have another month left before my defense! Meanwhile, still having my full-time job to go to. Finding it a little hard to keep switching tasks – doing projects at work, and then trying to revise my thesis and prepare for the defense in the evenings. I usually procrastinate a lot, and then end up feeling guilty. –> insert woeful violin music here <–
But you know what? I'm still into makeup quite a lot – and super pleased with myself as today I managed a winged liner look I am actually proud of. Plus… for the first time ever, I'm going to IMATS soon (in London). So exciteeed! 😀

I really notice the change during the winter. My skin is much drier, particularly on my cheeks and around my mouth. Like you, I’m also much more aware of my skin now that I’m older. I don’t really change my routine, but I do tend to moisturize more heavily during the winter.
