The Shower Files, Summer 2018 Edition: Moisture Mania

July 23rd, 2018 by Karen 12 Comments

moisturizing madness

Yup, still spending an inordinate amount of time in my shower. Also yup, I’m still a lizard person (and thus still require moisturizer). It’s hot here now, and I’ve been living for lotion and oils. If your skin could use a quenching kiss of extra moisture, you might like one or more of these…

Everyone 3-in-1 Citrus & Mint Lotion ($10.99, 32-oz. bottle with a pump)

A huge 32-ounce bottle of this organic cruelty-free lotion will only set you back $10.99, to which I say “What a deal!” This lotion is GREAT, and I can’t deny deriving a great deal of pleasure from seeing the huge bottle on my shelf.

This is what I use when I DON’T want to use a thick, heavy body cream but my skin still needs/wants more moisture.

Ingredients
Purified Water, Vegetable Glycerin, Organic Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Glyceryl Stearate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Cetearyl Glucoside, Sorbitan Olivate, Stearyl Alcohol, Organic Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil, Tocopherol, Lecithin, Cetyl Alcohol, Cetyl Esters, Hydrolyzed Rice Protein, EO® Organic Herbal Blend [Organic Aloe Barbadensis Leaf, Organic Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Organic Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, and Organic Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract], EO® Essential Oil Blend [Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil , Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Oil], Xanthan Gum, Sodium Phytate, Dimethicone, Citric Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Benzyl Alcohol, Potassium Sorbate, *Limonene

As far as lotions go, it’s the runny side, but it isn’t greasy. It’s kinda like Curel or Lubriderm, and I’d initially presumed, because of the consistency, that it wouldn’t be very hydrating, but it is.

Oh, it is… I can almost hear my skin sighing in relief when I use it, and I think it smells soooo good, too. I get more of the orange than the mint, and the fragrance is of that magical variety that doesn’t overwhelm other perfumes.

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ 5 out of 5 hearts.

Yes to Ultra Hydrating Moisturizing Coconut Oil Stick ($9.99 for a 2-oz. stick)

What can I say? I still love them Daisy Dukes (even though I probably should’ve stopped wearing them 10 years ago), and this solid stick moisturizer is booty shorts BFF material.

Ingredients
Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Beeswax, Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Trihydroxystearin, Glycerol Caprylate, Glycerol Undecyleneate, Fragrance (Parfum), Coumarin

It leaves your legs a little shiny, but not in that oiled-up semi-scandalous Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover way.

Note: The scent will follow you around. In fact, you’ll leave a trail of coconut in your wake, which is a plus in my book.

❤️❤️❤️❤️ 4 out of 5 hearts.

yes to coconut stick

Sahajan Organic Ayurevdic Blend Ritual Body Oil ($55 for a 3.4-oz. bottle)

I got this as a present and only now realized that — holy sh*t! — it’s $55 a bottle. Picture a rich hippy version of Aveda’s awesomely hydrating Shampure oil.

Ingredients
Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil*, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil*, Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil*, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil*, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil*, Camellia Oleifera Seed Oil*, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil*, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride*, Parfum*, Tocopheryl Acetate

I do like the scent. It smells like a relaxing Four Seasons spa treatment with lots of lavender and rosemary.

Only caveat is the price…

❤️❤️❤️ 3 out of 5 hearts.

Ahava Deadsea Water Mineral Body Lotion ($29 for a 8.5-oz. bottle with a pump)

Once upon a time, I had a roommate who only used body lotion a few times a year because her skin was rarely ever dry enough to need it. As someone who practically bathes in lotion twice a day, this blew my mind at the time, and it still blows my mind now.

That said, this lotion by Ahava might be a good fit for her, or for anyone who only occasionally needs a little light moisture.

Ingredients
Aqua (Mineral Spring Water), Ceteareth-30 & Cetearyl Alcohol, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Cetyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Sodium Cetearyl Sulfate, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Propanediol(Corn derived Glycol), Caprylyl Glycol & Chlorphenesin & Phenoxyethanol, Maris Sal (Dead Sea Water), Dimethicone, Parfum (Fragrance), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Flower Water, Alpha- Isomethyl Ionone, Benzyl Alcohol, Benzyl Benzoate, Benzyl Salicylate, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Citronellol, Coumarin, Geraniol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Hydroxyisohexyl 3-Cyclohexene Carboxaldehyde, Isoeugenol, Linalool.

In the plus column, it absorbs quickly and doesn’t feel greasy at all. Also, the (strong) baby powder scent smells fresh and clean, like freshly washed laundry.

Ah…

In the minus column…not a lotta moisture.

❤️❤️❤️ 3 out of 5 hearts.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I tend to use body lotion more if it is in a pump bottle, so I think I would like that Everyone lotion. I have one of their body washes but I haven’t opened it yet.

The ingredients in that stick seem awesome, but I just can’t see myself using a stick moisturizer! Meh, I can’t use a lot of coconut oil right now anyways, my girls have a skin sensitivity to it. It makes them break out in a rash.

I am one of those people who rarely needed moisturizer. I never used it, not even on my face (bad, I know – I didn’t know then). The only moisturizer I ever used was baby oil in my occasional baths lol. In my mid 30’s I started using moisturizer after bathing. I can go without it, but I want to prevent/take care of my beginning aging skin needs now.

With my recent pregnancy, I had horrendous dry skin. I don’t know why, and it was awful. I could not do anything to keep it hydrated. Stupid weird preggie hormones. I have ultimate sympathy for those with dry skin. My God. Brutal.

I need a lot of moisture, which is why I stick to body butters or, if I can´t be bothered in a heatwave like the one we are experiencing now, I use an in shower moisturizer from LUSH.

Thanks for all the recommendations! I too need lotion year round. The Everyone product is such a great deal. Seems like it would be great for the hot summer months when you need moisture, but nothing too heavy.

      Hi Ruchita,

You’re so welcome. I hope you try the lotion because it’s really great (and especially great for summer).

How was your weekend? Did you read any good books?

I had a very lazy weekend! Spent some time catching up on sleep and taking the kitties for a “walk” in the yard. 🙂 I finished reading The Ex from Alafair Burke and also started The Other Lady Vanishes from Amanda Quick. They are both good reads!

Oh and I stocked up on some ice cream from my favorite local store. Their new seasonal flavor is Banana Chocolate Chip. So yummy!

Hope you had a relaxing weekend!

Oh lazy summer weekends are the best. I’m sure the crew enjoyed traipsing in the great out doors. Do you take them all out at the same time?

Adding your books to my list.

They all love being outside! I can take out Ella and either Louis or Nina. Not all three by myself. Ella eats a little grass and then just parks herself in the sun. Louis loves to walk around, but lately I’ve been taking out his favorite toy (a giant piece of string) into the yard and playing with him there. I can take him outside without a harness as long as I keep an eye on him. Nina always goes out on a harness because she is too small and fast to keep track of!

Is Tabs still enjoying his catio?

Yes he is! And so are the local hummingbirds. His catnip plants are all flowering and when he’s not chillin’ in there the hummingbirds fly into the catio (!) to grab a meal. They have the good sense to not hang out when he’s there.

I seriously thought you took all three out at the same time and was going to give you props. ?

Tabs’ catio sounds like quite the kitty oasis! But well deserved for a CEO of his standing. 🙂

I wish I could take all three out at once! There is usually someone sitting at the sliding door looking like they are missing out on the fun. 🙂

I have to lotion every day, too. But, luckily, I’m good with a basic pump lotion like St. Ives. Body Butters have always been too heavy for my skin, which is convenient because I vastly prefer a pump. It has been so oppressively humid here that I’m surprised I need even a bit of extra moisture. I feel like my skin is just used to getting it, though. Or maybe I’m just sweating it all off. HAHA!
