Estée Lauder Double Wear Deep Dive: Double Wear Nude Cushion Stick Radiant Makeup

July 27th, 2018 by Karen 15 Comments

So, this applicator is a little cray.

What is Deep Dive? I’m glad you asked! It’s a new series in which I’m reviewing a bunch of Estée Lauder Double Wear products from their permanent collection. Let’s find out what’s good! ?

Estée Lauder Double Wear Nude Cushion Stick Radiant Makeup ($42 for a 0.47-oz. bottle — on sale now for $21)

Gonna keep this short and sweet (for once! I KNOW.) because, sadly, this gorgeous sheer and satiny skin tint is being phased out, but since there are still quite a few shades left on esteelauder.com, I wanted to give it a mention in case you like minimal coverage and wanna grab one for 50% off.

“Touch on, buff and blend to your perfect nude. Polishes and evens skintone for a healthy-looking glow. Skin-loving, weightless and comfortable formula instantly hydrates. 8-hour wear. Innovative stick combines liquid makeup and applicator in one. You’ll know it’s time to replenish as the stick becomes smaller until the clear window disappears.

“This makeup is a different formula than our original Double Wear Stay-in-Place liquid foundation. It is instantly hydrating and leaves skin with a radiant glow. All day 8-hour wear. In shades for all skintones.”

— esteelauder.com

Yes, the sponge applicator’s lame. You’ll end up with too much on your face if you go there, so ignore it. The trick to this is to twist the base at the bottom ever-so-slightly, so the tiniest bit comes out, and work it your skin with your fingers. Then you’re only a few pats and swipes away from radiant, glowing spahhhhhh skin that looks preternaturally smooth all day long.

Remember the fabulous LE NARS Hydrating Glow Tints? This has a very similar barely-there “Oh, hello there, freckles!” type of look. Très Megan Markle on her wedding day.

How does Double Wear Nude Cushion Stick Radiant Makeup compare to the other Double Wear Foundations?

I’m still working my way through the collection, but here’s what I have so far…

  • Double Wear Nude Water Fresh Makeup SPF 30 — Cushion Stick is very sheer with a subtle glowing satin finish, while Nude Water Fresh is medium coverage with a soft matte finish. Cushion Stick works for dry skin or for those with fine lines (HELLO, MY NAME IS KAREN). Water Fresh would be a better fit for oily skin.
  • Estée Lauder Double Wear Light — Cushion Stick is sheerer than Double Wear Light, which has medium coverage (similar to like Water Fresh). Double Wear Light’s finish more of a velvet, so it’s compared to Cushion Stick it’s more matte, but it’s not as matte as Nude Water Fresh.

Honey Bronze! I’m an NC42 in MAC, by the way.

Other places that currently still carry it

I wear Honey Bronze, which just happens to be one of the sold-out shades on esteelauder.com, so if that’s your color too, then head to the Macy’s website, where they still have it, along with several of the other shades, for the same discounted $21 price.

The Gone But Not Forgotten Program

One last thing that I just found out today that you (and I) might find helpful someday: Estée Lauder has a special-ops team and a program to help beauty junkies find discontinued and LE products called “Gone But Not Forgotten.” If there’s a color that you absolutely can’t live without, and you live in the U.S, you can call them at 1-800-216-7173 between 9:00 AM EST and 4:00 PM EST Monday through Friday, or contact them via email at emailonsumercare-US@gcc.gbnf.estee.com.

They can track down LE products from Aramis, Bobbi Brown, Bumble and bumble, Clinique, Darphin, DKNY Fragrances, Donna Karan Cosmetics, Estée Lauder, GLAMGLOW, Jo Malone London, Lab Series, La Mer, MAC, Michael Kors Beauty, Origins, Tommy Hilfiger Toiletries and Tom Ford Beauty as well.

Well, that “Gone but Not Forgotten” thing sounds good in theory. I’ve tried it and have never gotten any response. It is impossible to get a human on the phone and email inquiries are answered with an automated message. I was so disappointed in the whole process

Thanks for letting me know about your experience, Darinka. I haven’t tried it yet but I think I might to see if anything actually happens.

I would’ve tried it with MAC Coffee (one of my favorite brown eyeliners, ever) but it looks like it’s back in stock again after being missing for many months. What item did you try to track down?

I desperately wanted (needed!) the Clinique Mild clarifying Lotion when it was discontinued. I really dislike the formula of the replacement product -Clarifying Lotion 1.0. That was one product they shouldn’t have messed with-LOL. I was never lucky enough to find any at TJ Maxx either 🙁

Oh my goodness. That reformulation left me gutted, too. I used to use that toner and loved it (went through countless bottles); I don’t understand why they had to mess with a good thing! Did you ever find a replacement? Now I use Biologique Recherche P50 1970 (I refer to it as “the big guns,” LOL), which is nothing like Mild Clarifying, but it works for me.

No, not really. I’ve tried bunches of stuff, but nothing is so perfect as that Clinique product. I have sensitive skin so lots of AHAs make me unhappy. Paula’s Choice 2% BHA is pretty good, but I have to be careful not to overdo it. P50 1970 is big guns! Awesome that it works for you!

Your skin looks so beautiful in that opening photo that I picked up the Cushion Stick – in Honey Bronze (skin twins!).

Do you recall what blush you’re wearing in that pic?

      Hi Carm,

I hope you like the foundation! 🙂 The blush is MAC Cream Colour Base in Vintage Rose.

        Thanks, Karen!

I’m wearing the foundation today. The coverage is so up my sheer-loving alley! So happy you featured it!

Thanks for sharing the blush shade! 🙂

You’re so welcome. I’m so happy you like it! (Too bad it’s getting discontinued… boo.)

Re: the blush. I just dab a little on top of the foundation (no powder) and I’m good for the day!

Your skin does look amazing in that pic. I agree on the applicator but it’s a shame they’re discontinuing the formula because it sounds fab (and looks great in your pic).

I bought this foundation online, due to glowing reviews, but had to return it. The smell was so bad – very chemical, like paint. I could not even bring myself to put it on my face. After I returned it, I thought perhaps I had just gotten a bad one, so I checked out the product at my local Estee Lauder counter and it too stunk like paint! Too bad as it seems everyone loves it.

Thanks, T. The lip is Charlotte Tilbury Sunset Lover Lipstick. I reviewed it a while back:
