Another Way to Work Your Favorite Nude Lipstick

August 28th, 2018 by Karen 23 Comments

Your recipe for new nude lips

Even when you regularly roll with eight nude lippies at any given moment, sometimes you want to shake things up, which is when a sheer berry gloss comes in handy.

“Sheer” is the key here, i.e. something to add a tantalizing touch of berry tint that will tease and tempt without taking over.

  1. Start with a layer of your nude lippie du jour.
  2. Blot (if you want), but I usually skip it because…laziness, TBH. But it’s helpful if you’ll be taking pics because it keeps your lip color from looking thick and gooey.
  3. Apply a layer of gloss directly on top, but WAIT! — don’t stick that wand back in the tube quite yet. Wipe off any lipstick with a tissue first so the lipstick doesn’t mix with your gloss and change the color. Alternatively, instead of using the doe foot directly on your lips, you can swipe it on the back of your hand, then pick up the gloss from there and apply it to your lips with a finger.

Just a hint of berry

You can also do this trick with reds, purples, browns — any sheer gloss you like.

Good morning, BTW. Happy Tuesday. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Karen your make up – eyes, cheeks, lippie – looks amazing. what a perfect beautiful but chic look! gah!

i love this trick, i learned it this morning by accident – kinda.
i had applied a nude lipstick that was too cool for my eye makeup and so i decided to top it with a sheer browney nude color to make the lips match the eyes and the rest of my face!

i wish I had taken the time to blot though because it did end up thick and gooey lol.

    thanks for this awesome tip!

      Hi Yelena,

Thanks girlie! Sooo I have to try your trick with the sheer brown. I have one around here somewhere that I need to play with! I bet a sheer reddish brown would be fun. 🙂

Ooh now u have given me the idea to dig up a bunch of colors that weren’t dark enough/warm enough for me! Especially those nudes that have been set aside for being the wrong shade!

        Thanks Karen!

You’re so welcome! You know something else you could do to tweak those colors? Pair them with a darker lip liner. Line your lips and fill them in the with liner, and blend the nude lippie on top. Happy experimenting!

      Hi Bebe,

Aww, thanks friend! I was feeling this look. It’s been a minute since I’ve done more than the usual swipe of taupe so it was fun. This look is surprisingly easy because the placement of the shadow is very basic, and once you get it down you can play with it and get creative. I will put your post idea on my to-do list!

what a gorgeous everyday look! I am loving that you used Chanel products in this post. You are inspiring me to try and get my Rouge Allure Ink to work with a bit of gloss. and to experiment with my new Discretion lip pencil. :::rummages for not too pigmented glosses:::

Thanks, lady! It’s easy when you have a few cheats to help you out. Definitely try the pencil base one of these days… Makes it so much easier.

P.S. Is it as cold down there as it is up here?

I don’t ever do winged liner. The corners of my eyelids droop lower than my eyes, making it impossible to do a horizontal line.
Nope, not cold down this way. It’s 75. I consider that relief from the relentless heat of summer. It was cooler this morning, but the humidity was nearing 85% so it felt warm. I ran in a sleeveless shirt and was drenched in sweat.

The corners of mine do that too. The trick is to thin that wing out — make it as skinny as you can! And position it so that it’s more horizontal than angled. You CAN do a wing, I swear! You just have to play with the placement.

Thanks, Bailey! This is one of my fall back eye looks from back in the day, with a tweak on the wing. Gotta love the versatility of a wing!

Hope you’re having a great Tuesday so far. I’ve been writing all day… Gonna pick up Connor in a few! What have you been up to?

      Hi Lisa,

Thank you so much! It’s a new fave palette of mine by a brand called PYT Beauty. Here’s some more info along with swatches. Let me know if you have any other questions about it! I really like the palette and am happy to help.

This is a gorgeous look! I have used your trick with sheer red gloss and I liked the result. Is that a palette or a mirror that you’re looking at when applying the gloss? Am I correct that it has a big KAREN on it? Very cute. 🙂

Good eye! Yeah, it has my name on it. The PYT Beauty folks did a custom decoration on it. 🙂
