Fresh Friday: New Line of Organic Baby and Body Products Coming Soon to Target

Soooon!

MBB’s “Fresh Friday” series takes a look at new beauty brands (and venerable O.G. brands that are new to me). Let’s discover new makeup!

Toddlers really do say the darnedest things.

I asked Connor Claire what she thought about the new Hand Soap from Made Of, and instead of commenting on the foaminess of the bubbles or how soft her hands felt afterwards, she pointed at the bottle and said, “Mama, there’s a turtle! And she’s purple and smiling and wearing a necklace!”

Aw, babylove!

“Made Of” is a new line of organic baby, body and home care products coming this month to Target and Buy Buy Baby. They make shampoo and body wash, baby powder, diaper cream, nipple balm (oh, I remember those days), baby sunscreen, baby lotion, diapers, diaper rash cream, baby wipes (they also have a diaper subscription service), multi-surface cleanser, dish soap and hand soap, and everything’s reasonably priced between $4 and $13.

You’ll find them alongside Honest and Babyorganics and other brands with that familiar “natural” marketing — no dyes, fragrances, colors, GMOs, suflates, parabens, that kind of thing. And they seem more upfront than usual about the business of “clean” marketing. They’re completely transparent about where their ingredients comes from and where their products are manufactured, which is refreshing.

The line also has a bunch of well-known certifications, including Leaping Bunny and the Environmental Working Group, among others, and I dig that the ingredient lists on the labels show which ingredients are organic and which aren’t.

Made Of Ingredients
Literally a list

Connor and I have been testing a few things from the line, and the standouts have been the Foaming Hand Soap (rinses clean) and the Baby Shampoo (big bubbles).

I also like the Moisturizing Body Lotion, the main ingredient of which is aloe. It’s surprisingly hydrating for a thin, fairly runny lotion.

Everything is also unscented… And you know me — I like my body care to smell good, so I do wish that these had a little something-something scent-wise, but I understand the rationale.

Connor, of course, loves the animals represented on the packaging. #priorities

Look for the line on your next Target blackout run. If you don’t live near a Target or a Buy Buy Baby, though, they also sell samples of their products online for $2 a pop, so you can try before committing to an entire bottle (I wish more brands did this!).

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

      TGIF, Michele! 🙂

Yes, she’s getting big. Believe it or not I’m taking her to her first dance dress rehearsal tomorrow. The time goes by so fast!

The whole unscented thing is a godsend to people like me who have REALLY sensitive skin. I can use light scents like coconut or Shea from the Body Shop, but anything that smells strong (Dove Shower Puff, I’m talking to YOU) leads to hives, swelling, a trip to urgent care and a medrol pack. Ugh!! I’m an adult without children but I have a feeling this would be a good line for me! Plus there’s a turtle on it, hey! 😉

      Hi Cindy,

Don’t forget, the turtle is also wearing jewelry, LOL! 🙂 I hope this line works for you. I used the body wash on myself and it’s lovely!

I love that more companies are doing this, I just wish the products were also hypoallergenic! When my kiddo developed eczema early on, that’s what my doc told me to look for, and it’s surprising how few of them are! But that’s a great price for hand soap, it might have to be for the grownups here. 🙂

      Hi Trude,

Aww, little babylove! Have you been able to find anything that helps her with the eczema?

Yes, thankfully! Cetaphil baby hair and body wash is great, and Honest’s moisturizer is lovely, totally worth the money. And a big part of it is just moisturizing constantly, Reno is so dang dry, too bad she hates when I do it!

Oh gosh, the air is SO dry up there. When my in-laws lived in Redding (they moved back to Hawaii a few months ago), I would be constantly be putting lotion on my hands.

Anywho, if you happen to live near a CVS, you might want to check if they sell Avene, because they have this cream that we use that is really helpful called XeraCalm. Connor gets these dry patches in the winter and this cream (which is made specifically for sensitive skin with eczema) really helps a lot.

You’re welcome. I actually end up using it too, on super dry areas on my cheeks and around my nose. I also had an incident with an AHA elbow cream that peeled off half the skin on my left (note: always read the instructions, OMG!), and XeraCalm was the only thing that helped get that skin back into shape again. It’s good stuff!
