Fresh Friday: Hungry for Color? This Indie Makeup Line Names Palettes After Tasty Treats!

Looks good enough to eat! (But don’t.)

MBB’s “Fresh Friday” series takes a look at new beauty brands (and venerable O.G. brands that are new to me). Let’s discover new makeup!

OK, so I like to think that I’m NOT ruled by my stomach, buuuut the fact that the eyeshadow palette I rocked yesterday is called Berries & Cream may or may not have something to do with why I like wearing it. ?

Berries & Cream is from Dominique Cosmetics, a new-to-me indie makeup line by YouTuber Christen Dominique. Christen has just over four million subscribers, so she’s kinda Internet famous (to put it mildly).

Dominique Cosmetics has products spread out among three mini sub-collections, and each of the eyeshadow palettes in them are named after something delicious. There’s Berries & Cream, Latte and Lemonade).

YUM! A girl after my own food-lovin’ tummy heart.

I wore the Berries & Cream palette to lunch yesterday with a friend, who asked, “That, on your eyes? Are you wearing purple or burgundy?”

By the way, she asked me this after we’d been talking for an hour, LOL!

I was like, “Girl, I’m not sure! I was hoping it would distract you from the white hairs sticking up every which way!”

I think the special sauce in Berries & Cream is that it has both warm and cool tomes, along with neutrals and brights, so the colors pop on the skin, but at the same time aren’t totally obnoxious.

I also like this palette because I can get away with skipping primer when I use it.

I KNOW!

I’ve been doing that lately, and it’s been strangely freeing — not just because of the saved step, but also because it keeps my eye makeup from looking heavy. The shadows appear less textures and fussy, and I’ve been into that.

I usually do one of the bolder colors in the palette, like Cherry Juice or the blue shade, Blueberry Muffin (*smacks lips,* I’M SO HUNGRY), or the shimmery Cranberry shade, as a liner. Then I’ll mix the matte browns in some sort of combination and throw that on my lids and crease.

Even without primer, these are easy to blend (no fallout). Plus, the purple/reddish shades don’t irritate my eyes, and the shadows lasts all day with minimal creasing and fading.

Dominique Cosmetics also has liquid lipsticks, too, for $18 each. I’ve tried a couple of them, and eh… I like how they look in pics because they’ve got pigment for days, but they feel thick, dry super quickly, and they catch on my flakes.

They might work better for you if your lip situation is smooth, which mine is not.

I do like the Berries & Cream Palette, though… It’s $44, which does seem kinda expensive, especially considering that the pans in the palette look large but are really only 0.04 ounces each. By comparison, the pans in a $54 Urban Decay Naked Palette (a similar formula) are 0.05 ounces.

But even though it’s a little overpriced, I like the quality and the colors.

If you’d like a closer look at Dominique Cosmetics, you can check them out at Sephora.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

My son bought me this palette for Christmas. I love the colors and tones. I also have her Latte palette and that is beautiful! Such beautiful neutrals and the shimmers are spectacular! I keep that one out year round as I reach for it frequently.

      Hi Barb,

How sweet is your boy?! What a nice Christmas gift! 🙂

If you haven’t already try the palette without primer. The shadows are shockingly long-lasting!

Looks like a cute set for someone younger, like if I had an 18 year old daughter. It iser expensive.
More normal temperatures coming this week. Be well!

I love the looks of this palette, and I think the shadows look great on you! I’m afraid to try any more of Dominique’s products after being so disappointed with the Lemonade Palette on myself. I love what other people seem to be able to do with it.

I bought Lemonade because everyone raved about it, and I thought the colors were gorgeous. Unfortunately, the formula doesn’t really work for me, even though the company assured me I received the reformulated palette. The mattes didn’t blend well at all, and the shimmers mostly had weak pigmentation. To Dominique’s credit, they were willing to let me return it. I had to ask a former MUA friend for help with it, it was that difficult. I can kind-of make it work now, if I use sponge-tipped applicators and cheap, flat, synthetic brushes. The only thing I can think is maybe the super-silicone heavy formula of Lemonade doesn’t play so nice with my oily lids, even over primers. It’s too late to return now, but I’m still debating selling it.

Sounds nice, but not like something I will rush out and buy. I am kind of over those shades at the moment, I think I have worn them too often through fall.

Definitely some pretty shades and not needing a primer is a definite plus!!
