The New NARS Exposed Collection: Swatches, Quick Look

February 12th, 2019 by Karen 19 Comments

The new NARS Exposed collection, coming February 17 to the Ulta website

Exposed! — a new collection from NARS — is NOT (I hope) named after flashers, because I was flashed several times when I lived in San Francisco, and let me tell ya…it ain’t pretty, folks.

This collection, on the other hand, is gorge. ? There’s a new $59 six-pan blush palette (a.k.a. the Explicit Cheek Palette) with an allegedly new NARS formula and three mini lip kits (called the Explicit Lip Duos), with a matte pencil and a shiny gloss and $22 each, all coming to the Ulta website, and very likely other places on/after, February 17.

In other news…

Chapter 27 in the never-ending saga that is my teeth…

Yay! I have to go to the dentist again! ?

My bite has been funky since my last filling, and it hurts when I chomp down on my right side, which is not at all amusing when you’re mildly addicted to ? eating carrots (especially baby carrots).

I wants to eat them all…

Speaking of carrots, what’s up, doc? ? How are you doing today?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

The blushes swatch so nicely on you. Would love to see you use this in a look to see how they play in real life!

Any hint on how much those lip duos cost? I seriously want all three! Nars lip pencils are some of my favorites. I actually wore Sex Machine on my wedding day, so that shade is always dear to my heart.

probably the bite is nothing –if they left the filling a little too high last time, it could cause pain and will be a quick and easy fix to get adjusted! you got this! Signed, a girl who will be a dentist in 3 months (!!)

      Hi Allison,

They ended up doing a bite adjustment. Congrats on becoming a dentist! Random fun fact… My friend Maryanne is a dentist and her husband absolutely refuses to let her do dishes since her hands are so valuable. lol

thank you!! it’s fun for me when two of my biggest interests collide one of my favorite beauty blogs 🙂 I love that about your friend — my husband is in my dental school class as well so we’ll have to trade off the risk of dishes haha

I’ve been flashed, too. Once in the market, near the bananas no less—lol Believe me, the bananas had more going for them than that creep did!

Given the names of the other products, I think Exposed is definitely alluding to nudity as a sexual turn on. Remember, this is the guy who came up with the name Orgasm. Nars just seems to love titillation as a marketing gimmick (Tom Ford does, too). I don’t really care, but it just seems odd during the “me, too” era.

But, enough about names. It certainly looks like a lovely spring into early summer collection. I especially like the idea of pairing the gloss with the pencil as a matte pencil just looks too dry on my lips.

That palette DOES look pretty.. I’m such a sucker for NARS!

Btw, Karen, you have such great teeth! ? I never had any orthodontia done when I was younger and I feel like that’s beginning to show now and I’m itching to get my teeth fixed a little bit but I’m wondering if it’s worth all the trouble (read pain, money and time, in that order). Did you have braces when you were younger? If you didn’t I’m seriously impressed! ?

Aww, thanks Tisha. I wish my teeth looked this straight on their own! I had braces when I was a teen; I had to wear the metal and rubber bands and the whole nine yards. Then I had a retainer for years afterwards. I really owe that smile to my mom, who insisted on me going through with it.

There seems to be more options nowadays… I have several friends who did Invisalign and they were happy with the results.

The filling should be an easy fix. Hopefully there are some bits that can be ground down so you have a better bite.

I finally started going to the dentist again after a long lapse because I chipped a tooth. So I needed a new filling on that tooth and while I was at it, I had my three amalgam fillings replaced. It was torture because I hate everything about the dentist (injections, scraping, drilling) after a really horrible experience years ago, but I’m glad I did it. I even started going every six months like I know I’m supposed to. Last time, I had very minimal scraping and I’m hoping that this time I can be out in less than 20 minutes.

      Hi E.D.!

Good for you for going back to the dentist. I’m not the biggest fan but I found a great one that works with ‘fraidy-cat people like myself. They also have this tool called Nu Calm that that really helps me relax and it actually works. I *almost* feel chill when I’m there. (Almost.)

Regarding today’s visit… It went smoothly. The doc ended up doing a minor adjustment, and I have to wait a few days to see if it’s made any difference.

i’m tempted by this palette but i’m surprised by how pink now or never and make you mine look! I’m sure i’ll go with either this or the new clinique face trio, will you be swatching that one as well karen?

      Hi Jenna,

Currently no plans to do the Clinique face trio, but let me look into it. Side note: I have quite a few Clinique posts lined up so stay tuned if you’re a fan of the line!

Glad you got your bite all straightened out. Those are pretty colors. But I am SO OVER NARS and Tom Ford and some others with their innuendos.

I don’t really need another blush palette but damn I love blush palettes. My bite has been messed up since I had a wisdom tooth grow in at a random angle (and was removed), I’m seeing what happens with the rest of my wisdom teeth before I get anything done. I had braces & plates when I was 10-13 (my bottom jaw was moved a whole centimetre forward) so I will want to get things fixed but don’t want to get them fixed & then another wisdom tooth messes things up again.

I bought the blusher palette as soon as it became available on nars website. You know, I was a bit disappointed with it?. First, the bronzer shade is way too dark and red, both pinks seem so alike that I hardly see a difference on my fair skin (Just wonder to which skin tone this palette really works?) Overall … well… the shades are sooo generic that I can find some 3..4 dupes in my collection and 1…2 would be definitely from NARS. Last but not least, I’m just struggling to find a proper brush to apply this formula. It just doesn’t apply well, unless you dip the brush in the pan and scratch it fiercely?. For me as a big NARS fan this palette is a disappointment?
