Fireworks!!!!!

Your Fourth of July fun fact! — aerial fireworks go by several different names, many of which are botanically themed…like peony, dahlia and chrysanthemum.

Coincidentally, I was thinking about vibrant, dynamic peonies when I did this eye look.

As each boom radiates outward, the circumference of each colorful circle has a defined shape, but as it expands, each individual point of light trails off ever so slightly until it disappears.

For the eye, I tried to convey the radiating roundness with the half-moon shape, and then spread the bronze and ruby red glitters outward.

For the lips, I experimented with two different styles — one, an opaque, editorial (a.k.a. “artsy-fartsy”) matte red; and the other a sheer raspberry, which I think is slightly more wearable.

Um…is red glitter ever wearable, though? DISCUSS. ?

Oh, and here’s a rather morbid factoid I heard from a nurse friend in HIIT class this week… She said that the patients at her hospital who are waiting on organs for transplants are aware that around the Fourth of July there’s a lot of people drinking and more traffic accidents, and it can improve a donor’s chances of receiving a donor organ.

Sad but true.

Please be careful out there, and have a happy, and very safe, Fourth of July, friend.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Sorry about that last part… Didn’t mean to end on a dark note. I hope you’re doing something fun today. Talk to you soon! ?

I love that eye look! I rub my eyes way too much to do it, but my gosh it’s pretty!

I don’t think the organ thing was morbid at all. Hopefully people are organ donors, if they’re gonna be reckless the least they can do is be an organ donor!

There was a good sized earthquake in Ridgecrest CA today, we felt it in Central CA. My FB feed is full of “Did you feel the earthquake?” Posts. Kind of a kooky way to start the holiday!

Any time the ground rumbles at all it really throws me!

Were you around for the quake of ’89?

What an interesting factoid. Somehow a kind of silver lining to the tragedy. I’m glad you raised this point, Karen.

And totally off/on topic: I love you how coined your inspiration “vibrant, dynamic peonies.” I did a similar look with their copper glitter for a dance gig and I found it hard to blink!! Crusty blinking.

Ha ha, I know what you mean about crusty blinking! Glitter is not the makeup you wear when you want comfort. They’re like the uber-high heels of the makeup world!

I see Raoul (sp?) makes an appearance once in awhile!
I picked up the UD Heavy Metal Glitter eyeliner in Gunmetal yesterday, put, or rather tried to put, some on earlier today, but the stuff is just so thin it doesn’t stay. Any helpful hints?
Your EOTD looks great, though . . . as always!

    Happy holiday,

Yeah, he hangs out… I don’t mind him so much these days, ha ha ha!

So, about that liner, yeah, you have to work in layers if you want to build it up. Wait for them to dry in between, and you should be fine. 🙂

Gorgeous! I like it with the sheer lip- the Ruby Woo draws attention from the eyes, which are amazing.

You’re factoid is even more morbid than you thought. My dad is a retired first responder; he learned in EMT school that drunk drivers’ bodies are relaxed by the alcohol, so they sustain fewer injuries. So more often, the fatalities in a DUI accident aren’t the drunk driver. They’re the person/people they hit.

Everybody give a thought for the first responders out there. It’s a tough weekend for them, between the car wrecks and idiots with fireworks.

Karen, I love the red lipstick.
I think makes a lady look classy all the time, even if you are not dressed for an occasion.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen red glitter look this good lol. It’s usually way over the top. But this look is so soft & pretty! I love how you complimented it with a more sheer lip too
