Unsung Makeup Heroes: Clinique All About Shadow Quad in Teddy Bear

“Yeah, don’t even TRY to take my palette. I’m warning you!”

What’s an unsung makeup hero? For me, it’s an oftentimes underrated makeup morsel, a permanent collection product that scoots under the radar screen of many makeup lovers but regularly rocks my world. The long-running Unsung Heroes series features some of my favorites.

One of these Teddy Bears is not like the other (and it’s more comfy to hug).

But right now, I’m talking about the makeup one, and it’s a quad of all-matte eyeshadows from Clinique. If I were a betting gal…I’d wager that the Clinique All About Shadow Quad in Teddy Bear is probably better than the other neutral palette in your makeup bag, and it’s the most “neutral” of the neutral palettes I wear. The shadows are neither too warm nor too cool (they’re in the coveted Goldilocks Zone), and there’s very little burnt orange, brick red, gray or pink undertones in sight.

Yup, still an NC42 in MAC

The powder shadows in Teddy Bear are just as soft as the bear at the top of this post, and Clinique stuffed it with all of the basics to contour lids and add depth to eyes, including a matte beige bone, a matte golden brown, a peachy golden tan and a dark chocolate brown. In MAC-speak, I’d call these the matte (so, neither warm nor cool) equivalents of Brule, Soba, Soft Brown and Brown Down.

Teddy Bear’s pigment, like the pigment in most of Clinique’s color line, is intentionally diluted (much like Bobbi Brown’s eyeshadows), so for me Teddy Bear’s best for the days when I want to do a five-minute eye with just a little something — a quick blend of a few shadows, a swish of black liquid liner and a coat of mascara.

I actually skip eye primer whenever I wear this quad. I’ll wear the shadows on bare lids (my skin in that area is dry, by the way), and even though there’s a little fading and creasing over time, I can still see the shadows on my skin at the end of the day.

Plus, instead of exposing each and every fine line, these mattes daintily disguise the lines on my lids, which is another reason Clinique gets high marks from me. It seems that the more wrinkles experience lines I accrue…the more I appreciate this!

If you’re intrigued, the Clinique Teddy Bear quad is $32. I think it’s one of those buried treasures that every neutral lover needs for fast, fresh daytime eyes.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I’ve never tried this one. I’ll wear Clinique mascara and Pop Lip Colors and Cheek Pops. This looks like it would be the perfect set of mattes to coordinate with other shimmery palettes.

Yes, it’s especially pretty with shimmery bronzes. Works nicely with copper shades, too.

      Happy Friday to you!

Happy Aloha Friday, Karen! Your hair looks fabulous, btw. I’m loving the silver; mine are starting to come in, too.
It’s weird how for the longest time I thought warm colors were good for me but they end up making my face look dirty. We’re the same-ish NC42, I might be slightly darker bc Hawaii, but I definitely look more alive, awake in neutrals and cool tones.
You make this palette look great! What blush are you wearing?

      Happy Aloha Friday!

I had the same exact revelation with warm colors. They’re fun sometimes but when it comes to the every day stuff, I love neutral and cool tones.

Ok, about the blush… It’s the new Wander Beauty Trip for Two Blush and Bronzer Duo in Daiquiri/Tulum.

Wearing make up for ions it seems and was introduced to this palette in probably one of my first Clinique color consultations. It was probably 8 years ago.

The must have for everyone beginning to wear makeup or even professional makeup artists. Works amazing to soften the failed attempt to a smokey eye or I have 3 minutes to look alive look.

I dont go no where with out it

I love your hair!! So gorgeous. I’ll have to check this out – a lot of eyeshadows give me eczema but I usually do well with Clinique products.

I used to have this Clinique quad – it’s a great one! And you’re right, a true neutral. You don’t see many like this on the market now, everything is warm or super cool.
