Thanks for helping me decide earlier this week which Essie Summer 2008 nail polish to wear (nail polish poll). Guilty Pleasures received the most votes, so I painted my nails with it last night while watching The Real World (I know, I know).

THANK YE GODS it’s Thursday! I am so very glad we made it. Do you have plans this weekend? I’ve got a few movies on my watch list, including 27 Dresses. I’m a sucker for romantic comedies.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Oooh I like the look of Shore Leave, Illegal Cargo and Pandimonium. Submarine looks amazing too, though I don’t think it would suit me! What are your thoughts on them?

I like the look of the lip colours but they look really dupable! I do quite fancy Port Red though. How would you say it compares to Russian Red colourwise?

…Actually now that I think about it the pencils look really cute too!

    Hi Kirsty,

Port Red looked more orange and less blue than Russian Red.

I like the Technakohlss. I’m a huge fan of them to start with, so I’ve got lots of bias!

Initially I didn’t think I’d like the eyeshadows, but Illegal Cargo is probably my favorite. If you have a beige or white frost that you like (say, Ricepaper or Shroom) then you prolly don’t need Shore Leave.

I hope this helps! Happy Thursday!

Illegal Cargo looks like it’d be my favourite too! Bet it would look cute with Nice Vice!

Thanks, it totally helps! I’ve got about a month before it hits the UK, so plenty of time to look at swatches and FOTDs!

    Happy Thursday to you too!

Hmm, I dunno if Submarine and Freshwater are the same. I have a few blues but don’t think I own Freshwater (will have to check when I get back from work).

Pandemonium is quite beautiful in person!

I covet: Smoothblue Technakohl which I think would complement my green-blue eyes beautifully and Buoy-o-Buoy lipstick.

Which Chanel blush did you get?

Smoothblue is very pretty. I’m always a lil’ skeptical of the staying power of shimmery liners, but since it’s Technakohl it should be okay! How’s your day been?

    Hi Tonya,

I didn’t get anything (yet). I went to Nordie’s to look at the products and only had time to swatch. My friend was working and we ended up chatting for a bit. Next thing I knew it was time to go home and get ready for work (sigh). I will be going back this weekend so I can spend more time with the products and also look at Skinsheen!

I am pretty excited to watch that movie. I have never been a bridesmaid so I will get to vicariously live through the main character! 🙂

Yeah, I don’t think I would’ve gotten it, except that I could easily envision it going equally nicely with Parrot, Nice Vice, or a shimmery gray! Turns out it’s a very versatile shade! I actually have some blended in the outer corner right now, and it blended a lot more easily than I would’ve thought!

Yay, Naughty Nauticals! Submarine is gorgeous, but I already have Parrot (and, uh, don’t really wear it). Illegal Cargo looks great too — almost a lilac-y neutral? I’m more warm-toned, so I don’t know if these would work for me… well, I’m going to be hanging out around the Powell turnaround tonight anyway (getting my hair done), so a stop at Bloomie’s for me it is!

Sounds very pretty! I remember the texture feeling very smooth when I swatched it, and not chalky at all. It’s probably also going to be nice smudged on top of a creamy kohl. Yum!

I will probably attempt a smoky blue eye, but depending on how it turns out I may/may not post it (oy!). I have the blue palette from Smoke Signals in the fall so I’ll prolly try it with those colors too!

LOL I am so not visiting…my friends are coming home with me. I have a long list for clinique right now, so I’m thinking I’m going to pace myself and buy some right now and then maybe go again in a couple weeks. That way I don’t feel so bad right? 🙂 PLUS I am going to pick up an eyeshadow quad that I used on my mom last time that she ended up liking. That’s going in with her mother’s day gift. So I’m definitely picking up some quickeyes cream shadows…I swatched the other night at nordies and my favorites were sunlit palm, lucky penny, and starlit pink. The long last glosswears are also on my list. My favorites in those were the Tenderheart, Fireberry, and Rock Violet. I also want to buy some Lash Power before Pool/Beach season is in full effect here. Thus I may break this up into two purchases. 🙂 I’ll probably only buy half tonight. They have this new nude blush that looks like it might be nice, BUT… I’ve already been thinking about getting NARS blush in Sin…so I think I’m going to resist on those.

If/when you decide hit me up and I’ll give you the contact info of the surf school I went to down there. It was one of the best experiences, ever! I wasn’t a strong swimmer when I first learned, to tell you the truth. However, if you think about your surfboard being a big old life preserver that’s chained to you then that helps a ton (well, it helped me a ton).

    Hi Lehea,

NICE LOOT! Re pigments, I have a few, and the one that’s most neutral that I reach for is Melon from the Originals collection a few months back. It looks like it would be kinda orange but on me it’s a peachy-gold that looks very neutral on my skin. Also nice are Jardin Aires and Naked!

Hey Karen!! I got 3 of the Pigments: Bell Bottom Blue (so pretty!), Mutiny (*drool*) and Lovely Lily. Lark About didn’t trill me, because I have other loose colors (from Bare Escentuals) that are white frosty iridescent ones.

The only shadow I got was Submarine, which is just too pretty! (It’s totally not like Freshwater like everyone’s said, I swatched them side by side, and they looked different enough to me.) I considered Shore Leave, which is odd for me, seeing as I usually don’t go for neutrals, but it’s so creamy and bright! But I compared it to Stila’s Kitten, which I was wearing (LOL, so I could compare them) and they were almost the same so I saved my $$$. I originally wanted Pandemonium, but it was so chunky (damn you Lustre formula!!!) and not enough of the glittery stuff actually came out of the pan. Boo. And here’s the weird one: I LOVE purple anything, but Illegal Cargo was just WAY too blah for me. I couldn’t handle it. So I had to pass. Oh, and I also passed on Meet The Fleet, because it was too matte and chalky for my tastes. It does have a pretty hint of purple, but I figured it’d be too hard to work with.

Of the Lustreglasses I got Love Knot, which is just gorgeous! I love the duochrome!! All the others didn’t thrill me. I promised myself no more frosty light pinks after buying Cult Fave (Fafi) and Starlette Kiss (Heatherette). But I remember thinking, “Oooh, I bet Bateux would look GREAT on Karen!” since you look so nice in golds. (I wish I did!)

But I think my fav of the whole collection is Party Mate!! SOOOO PRETTY!! It’s TOTALLY my kind of color! It’s perfect! The others seemed cute, but too sheer, and the red was pretty, but I don’t need another red. But Party Mate just hit the spot!! LOVE IT!

I can’t wait to see what looks you put together with this collection! You always do such nice looks, and with your own twist! 😀

    Hi Megan,

SWEET! I am loving Sunlit Palm, and seriously, all those Glosswears are gonna come home with mama someday. I don’t have Rock Violet but it’s on my list.

I have Lash Power! It’s great for waterproof. On me though it makes my lashes look very natural (ie, not big and thick enough).

Good idea to pace yourself. I do the same thing… it lessens the pain at the register a bit. Plus if there’s GWPs then you can get those too!

Which eyeshadow palette are you getting your mom? Sigh, my mom won’t even curl her lashes.

    Hi Mariah!

Girlfriend, that’s a GREAT HAUL! Yah, Lark About was eh… I don’t really have a lot of white frosts so I’ll have to simmer on it this weekend.

That’s funny that you wore Kitten when you went to the counter so that you could compare it to Shore Leave. I’ve done that before too, ha! Aww, no love for Pandemonium? I was quite taken with it. I want to pair it with Illegal Cargo…

I am getting more into purples (I used to think they made me look bruised, but I’m becoming one with the violet, ha). Which ones are your faves?

OHOHOH the duochrome for Love Knot is super hot. My friend at the counter pointed it out first and we both were talking about how pretty it was. I’m glad you snagged that one though, as I’m guessing that’s going to go pretty quickly. Regarding Bateux, you know me so well! I saw that too and thought the same thing. I gotta chill on the golds though (maybe I should make a no-gold promise to myself… dunno how long I could keep it though.)

    Hi Amy,

You’re welcome! I was unsure about the eyeshadows too when I saw ’em at first but I really like the purples.

I am a HUGE MAC Technakohl fan so I love the liners. The grey one’s gonna come home with me, for sure, and probably the blue… I’ll have to test the blue out for a bit because it does have shimmer, and in my experience that usually means it fades quickly on my water line (pooh). In general I find blues eyeshadows kinda challenging, but when it comes to liner I find the color easy to work with. It’s a nice complementary color to my brown eyes. What shades do you usually wear?

    Hi Karen:
I’m a big fan of Technakohl in Purple Dash and Antiquity. I love the Greyprint. My eyes are hazel-brown and green, the grey seems to be pretty complimentary. I also love the light white/cream eyeshadows (helps me look more awake!) so I probably will pick up the Illegal Cargo too. Just for kicks might even get the blue nail polish!

There is a great outlet here in Orlando-The Cosmetics Company Store where they sell the previous MAC collections at a discount. If I can wait that long, its a great place to pick up things that you are not positively certain about when they come out.

    Have a great weekend!

I HAD to stop by MAC today to check out the new collection. I picked up Illegal Cargo, Hey Sailor and Love Knot. I was totally planning on getting Ensign and Buoy oh Buoy but when I got there it was just kinda ehhh. I really liked Shore Leave but it seemed too similar to Jete or Shroom both of which I have and love and couldn’t really justify. Illegal Cargo is A-MAY-ZING. It is this neutral purple which is gorgeous paired with purples or even browns (I just bought NARS Galapgos which looks great with it). It’s a really unique color that seems like it could be paired with lots of different colors.

Thanks to your blog and others my MAC-buying has spiraled out of control!! I’ve been ‘hauling’ every week for the past two months. Am I crazy?!!!

bell bottom blue looks a-mazing! but i have no idea what I’d “do” with it, LOL.

I really enjoyed 27 dresses-I saw it in the theatre with a girl friend during the day, on my bday (I totally believe you should not go to work on your bday!). It was super cute.

Thanks for the swatches Karen! I have Illegal Cargo, Pandemonium, and Meet the Fleet on Hold, though I’ll probably just get the first two. My counter (the one I frequent) is sold out of Bell Bottom Blue pigment and it wasn’t even out on the shelves yet! Submarine reminded me of Bang On Blue which I own and love. With Sea Me shadestick or Rubenesque paint pot underneath then it has that finish so I won’t be getting that one. I’m up for a Back to MAC and I don’t know if I’m going to get one of the new lippies or not…I might be a good daughter and let my mom pick one for herself!!

I was excited about it but not too much since most of my eyeshadows are blues! I ordered Ensign lipglass (and fix+) on wednesday and it arrived today and I LOVE!!!! the lipglass, so much that I’m going back to buy the other colours and a backup Ensign because it’ll definatly be used up quickly.

    Hey Karen,

Well, I caved in and got Port Red…I was intimidated at first but it goes on really nicely. SOOOO pretty. it’s a change for me as I usually do a strong eye and neutral lip but I can switch! I did a quick look with Rubenesque and Trax. Actually, I asked the MUA to put it together verbally and then I went home and did it at home–cheating much? I think I might go back and get Love Knot–it was really pretty =) If I get things in pieces I wont fall apart when I see the bill.

    Hi Amy,

I don’t have either Purple Dash or Antiquity so woo hoo, there’s more for the Technakohl list! Blue nail polish is fun! I love it when it’s all fresh and new with no chips…

I am going to Florida for my best friend’s wedding in Boca Raton in November. El Hub has been insisting that we make it to Orlando (he wants to go to Disneyworld, go figure), so if we make it out there then I am ALL OVER The Cosmetics Company Store! 🙂 If I could find stuff from the Barbie Collection then I swear I just might cry.

Thanks, you have a great weekend too! Are you doing anything fun?

    Hi Sandy,

Even though the Technakohl’s don’t work for ya I’m glad you have that gel liner! I use the MAC version (Fluidline) if I have time and the motivation.

How have you been? Hope things are great on your side of the world!

    Hi Vivien,

SWEET! I am glad they helped you make up your mind. How did the makeover go? Pick up any good loot?

    Hi Bridget,

LOL, nope! Just one, along with some very creative placement… 😉

That is so true regarding the economy… I would so be stimulating the economy if I had government $ for shoes!

    Hi Lynne,

That Illegal Cargo is the shizzzzz. Oh, your wallet will get used to it. Soon it’ll just throb pitifully like mine.

    Hi Meaghan,

I am so on the same boat (ha ha ha) regarding Illegal Cargo. SO GORGEOUS! I don’t have Galapagos but keep finding excuses to visit it. Hmm. I don’t think I’ll be able to resist much longer knowing that it looks great paired with Illegal Cargo.

    Hi Mich,

No! You’re not crazy! You’ll eventually get used to the throb of your wallet (I can’t even feel mine anymore, HA!).

    Love Knot is HOT, girl!

    Hi Zu,

You’re welcome! Oh, I wish I could tell you! I don’t have those colors (or at least I don’t think I do… it’s getting hard for me to keep track, yow! must be old age). I am a Ricepaper/Shroom girl myself. Do you think you’ll be picking up any bits?

    Hi Amanda,

This dilemma happens to me often too. Especially with things I know I probably would NEVER wear, but find myself very enamored with (certain blues, purples and yellows).

Happy belated BDAY by the way! I think work should be totally not on the agenda when one celebrates their birthday, too. In fact, I’ll be on vacay when mine comes up in June. 🙂

    Hi Tania,

You are welcome for the swatches. LOL, you’re so cute… I call the counter that I frequent “my counter” too, like it’s a special place just for me, ha! You just inspired me to take my mom and my bag of Back to MAC stuff to the counter. She hardly wears makeup but I know she’ll at least wear MAC lipstick. 🙂

I totally love Bang on Blue, btw, but never picked up anything from C Shock because at the time I was too terrified of it! *sigh*

    Hi Issy,

Yay! Great haul! BTW, I love Fix+ too, especially in the summer when it’s hot. I keep it in the fridge, which makes it cold and gives me nice refreshing splash…

    Hi Kelly,

Yah, Port Red is super pretty! Do you use a liner with it, or are you one of those talented ladies that can just put on red lipstick without having to worry about hat extra step?

Ha! I always ask MAC mua’s to verbally give me look ideas when I’m at the counter! You are not alone.

    Hi Karen,
Thanks for the swatches! I read your post, and it definitely strenghtened my resolve to get Hey Sailor! So, I went to my trusty Macy*s today, and I have to say, Hey Sailor! look really nice…especially in my makeup bag, ahahaha. It will definitely become one of my staple lipglosses! Dreamy is also a fave of mine; it looks great with faux-bronzed skin! I also took a peek at Illegal Cargo, and it was wayyy smokier than I wanted it to be. I love purple eyeshadow, but I passed on Illegal Cargo, even though it was gorgeous.
The Essie looks great! I like that color. Oh, that reminds me of my new find today–L’Oreal Quick Dry. The fastest polish-drying agent ever.
27 Dresses seems like such a good movie…plus, James Marsden is pretty cute…
