Shelter-In-Place Face of the Day: Soft Peach, Rose and Buttery Brown Tones

April 7th, 2020 by Karen 11 Comments

Ya know, seeing as how I spend every waking moment right now at home or somewhere within close proximity outside, and I can technically wear any kind of makeup I want, since my boss (the coywolf) is easygoing regarding the corporate dress code, you’d think I’d be all over runway-ready glossy red lids and lips and ’80s-style striped blush on my cheekbones…

My makeup situation is nowhere near this exciting at the moment…

But, alas, absolutely nothing exciting has been happening ’round these parts.

To be honest, I haven’t felt like wearing much makeup, and when I have worn makeup, I’ve only been able to muster enough to energy to do the yooj barely-there base and watercolor neutrals — a.k.a. my makeup safe place.

For now, I’m not gonna fight it. I’m just going to go with the shelter-in-place flow, and keep wearing what makes me feel good until I feel like pushing the envelope. So, today I wore peach and rose tones on my lids, lips and cheeks, with a Duchess of Sussex-caliber barely there base.

Are you still wearing makeup (or dressing up, doing your hair, etc.) at home? Inquiring bored beauty-loving minds want to know.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

There’s a reason for the word “classic.”
Our yoga teachers are always advising to get on your mat and do Sun Salutations, if nothing else. For those with a makeup “practice” (and I’m sure that most of us who visit your blog have one), this classic Karen look would be akin to Sun Salutations. 🙂

I haven’t worn makeup in 3.5 weeks, since my kids came home from school. I’ve pretty much been home ever since. Previously I was a don’t-leave-the-house-without-it type 99% of the time.

I have two zoom meetings a week for work, a zoom church service on sundays, and I’ve picked up groceries (online order, so they just put it in my car) a couple times. I’m a realtor, and yesterday I had one showing (the only one in 3.5 weeks thankfully). I haven’t put makeup on for ANY of it. ?‍♀️

I have started wearing a bra again lol (albeit a lounge bra moss days), and I am not at all depressed. My situation is WAAAY better than many— but I just have zero motivation for grooming beyond a shower and shaving my legs. I’m proud of myself for shaving! I just have no morning routine anymore since I’m not leaving the house.

I was thinking the other day that I really should put in more of an effort to feel more normal. I’m eating rather poorly (stress baking), and not working out at all, so I know I’m gaining weight. I wonder if I started wearing a little makeup and real clothes if it would have a positive impact in other areas of self care. We’re remodeling and doing the work ourselves, pretty much every day while my husband is off work, so it started with me needing to wear work/paint clothes, and I still do need to do that most days… but a little makeup might not hurt.

Hi, Tara. I feel you. The other day I changed out of my pajamas (black stretchy pants and a gray tee shirt) into my daytime clothes (another pair of black stretchy pants and another gray tee shirt!!!) and I realized that I might as well just go from pajamas into pajamas into pajamas into pajamas, day in, day out, HA HA HA! I think wearing a little makeup helps, even if it’s just mascara.

Will your kids be out of school until the end of the school year? I just found out Connor’s school will be closed until June.

Sigh. Spent the day with my 3 cats working remote again. I didn’t go beyond toothpaste and moisturizer today. Kind of in a funk this Tuesday. Getting sick of my shelter and my place. LOL.

Totally with you, April. The shine has worn off… But I’m trying to keep at it! Still, you may need to peel me off the floor soon because I just found out Connor’s school will be closed until the end of the school year.

I still have to go to the office (I work in Public Health, so it is more hours than less right now), but I also tend to fall back on my makeup happy place – soft brown eyes, winged liner and occasionally a red lip.
Makes me feel safe in these crazy times.

Yes to all of that, because it’s better for my mental health. Plus, daily perfume and exercise. I just really need it right now.

The makeup is simple: cream products (concealer, eyeshadow, blush, highlighter) with a bit of eyeliner and a swipe of mascara. Done in five minutes. It makes a difference to me, though.

Your skin is so gorgeous you don’t really need a full coverage base. I love these neutral, peachy warm looks. I think of them as classy and elegant.

I’ve been wearing mostly sunscreen and trying new brow products and mascaras in my stash. I’ve been pitting the Laura Mercier mascara against the Fenty mascara and the Anastasia Lash Brag. So far I like the Laura Mercier one best. Although, the ALB is a close second.
