Decleor Eye Make-Up Remover: I Only Have Eyes for You

June 25th, 2009 by Karen 34 Comments

Ever since my allergies kicked into high gear a few weeks ago, my eyes have been a sensitive mess. Even my old standby makeup remover, Lancome Bi-Facil, which never used to bother my eyes, has been bringing me to tears.

I’ve been looking for a makeup remover that won’t bother my peepers, ideally one able to remove waterproof makeup, and last week I started using Decleor’s Eye Make-Up Remover Gel ($28) for sensitive eyes.

It’s a watery gel with a thin consistency, neither sticky nor greasy, and it smells lightly of chamomile. To use it I soak a cotton ball and then gently wipe at the makeup around my eyes.

First, it works, removing everything — even waterproof mascara. Second, it doesn’t bug my eyes.

I’ve been using it for about a week, and I think my lids already look a little less puffy.

Something else — the skin around my eyes feels hydrated after using Decleor, not stripped of moisture. At $28, it costs a little more than Lancome Bi-Facil ($24), but it works, and my ultra-sensitive eyes don’t complain. That makes the price easier to bear.

Decleor Eye Make-Up Remover Gel

Price: $28 for a 5-oz bottle
Use: A chamomile-scented eye makeup remover for super sensitive eyes and skin
Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B+

You might like Decleor Eye Make-Up Remover Gel if…

  1. your eyes protest a lot of other makeup removers,
  2. you’re on the market for something able to remove waterproof mascara, or
  3. you’re comfortable spending top dollar to try something new.

Man in the mirror

Holy crap! Can you believe MJ’s gone? And Farrah Fawcett too?

MJ’s music was such a huge part of my childhood… It’s the end of an era. I’ve been moonwalking around the apartment and singing Man in the Mirror all afternoon.

Karen

RIP – it didn’t hit me till now when all the radio stations here in the bay started playing all his hits at the same time…

and Farrah – she was more than a hairstyle – she was a classy and tough lady!

When I heard the news this morning I thought my colleague was joking – it wasn’t until I heard it on the radio and noticed that the radio was only playing MJ’s songs that it twigged. RIP.

I read about Farrah this morn, but I didn’t hear about MJ until right before my stat test. It was so bizarre cus everyone was checking their phones trying to figure it out…

But I tend to like Bi-Facil. Plus I love the exotic looking dark bottle the miniature version comes in.

      Hi Caitlin,

Normally I love that stuff! I think my allergies are just making my eyes go crazy.

How’s statistics going? That was the only math class I ever really liked.

I love makeup forever’s sens’eyes or however it’s spelled. LOL
you can put the stuff IN your eye and it’s just like water. No irritation and it removes my chanel waterproof mascara. It’s like a magic potion. One swipe to take off my shadow and I go “wooooow”.

Hey there, Karen! I’m always on the lookout for a great makeup remover that takes off stubborn waterproof mascara. I’m taking your recommendation and have ordered the Decleor gel. BTW, Sephora has an online promo going on right now–40% off all Decleor! What luck! I ordered mine on the website (the product that is $28 regularly) and got it for $16.80! Now that’s a deal!

Karen do you have any suggestions for a budget makeup remover that takes off waterproof mascara? I am in desperate need of one as the Quo product I currently use doesn’t remove anything and my eyes are really bugging me these days (I think it’s allergies).

Total shocker on MJ tonight, my mom and I were glued to the tv hoping it was a big joke. Tragic life and all, he was such an innovator and bigger than life talent.

I have a suggestion for Shiny–try Andrea EyeQ’s Ultra Quick Makeup Remover Pads. I think you can find them in most drugstores and places like Walmart or Target. I got mine for $2.99 for a jar of 65 pads. They are great from removing waterproof eye makeup, and with its botanical ingredients including Aloe Vera, they shouldn’t bother sensitive eyes. Plus, they are so portable! Second choice would be Almay pads, but they may be a little irritating.

Thanks for the suggestions… I will have to see if I can find those Andrea pads at the drugstore.

      Happy Friday!

Yeah, real sad about MJ. I think his passing makes me realize more my age & the fact that as I’m getting older, more promiment figures of my time will soon go. MJ was my childhood & all the memories that go with it. Him & Madonna were everything to me for so many years of my life. They taught me to dance & were the first musicians i ever followed or purchased records of. Definitely will be playing some Smooth Criminal today 🙂

      Hi Nicole15,

Same here. I remember all of the boys in my class wanting a MJ leather jacket… I desperately longed for sparkly socks, LOL!

My mom actually called me last night and we talked about how me, my friends and brother would always dance around the living room to his songs when we were kids. His music was such a big part of my childhood, and listening to songs like PYT and Thriller takes me back to that simpler time.

I was so sad when I heard about Farrah and Michael… last night there was an impromptu celebration of MJ’s life and music downtown. Someone was playing a greatest hits CD out of their car speakers, and about 20 or 30 people did the Thriller dance in the street. Then they just kind of disbursed.

While it’s horrible, I think that’s how I’d want people to show they cared… with something happy.

I’m a total cheapie when it comes to makeup remover… in fact I tend to solely use sample that I receive in GWP’s! I don’t actually use it very often (Philosophy’s Purity Made Simple seems to do the trick for me), so I don’t run out!

I’m still not sure I’ve processed Farrah and MJ being gone, they were both so iconic, it’s just kinda surreal not having them in the world! I remember in the 80’s when MTV played videos and every new Michael Jackson vid was a cause to skip algebra and check out the world premiere! Billy Jean, holla!

      Hi Glosslizard,

Oh yah…Do you remember the first time you saw the Thriller video? I watched it by myself at night in our dark living room — not a smart thing to do when you’re eight and a ‘fraidy cat, LOL!

      Hi Shiny,

Another brand to consider is Almay’s Makeup Remover Pads. I’ve used these in the past and liked ’em. When I’m traveling I ditch the jar and pop the pads in a ziploc bag (gotta make sure it’s sealed up tight!) to make it more portable and save space in my luggage.

Hi Karen! I totally remember the first time seeing the “Thriller” video, and now I’m about to date myself–it premiered nationally at midnight on New Year’s Eve. I was at a rockin’ party at my favorite nightclub where, right after the ball dropped, they cut to the video which was shown on a huge screen in the club. I remember it was the cutting edge “back in the day!”

Karen! So far I’m loving stat, but that could just be because it’s like I’m coasting right now. The first test was on mean, median, and mode and the like, so it felt like a breeze. Hopefully the rest of the class will stay like that!

When I took that class it was during the summer, too. I remember really enjoying it because the concepts made practical sense to me. Too bad I don’t remember any of it, LOL! Are you taking any other classes this summer?

Yesterday was a sad day indeed. =/

I don’t think my eyes are *that* sensitive, but I like to use plain old veggie oil for my makeup remover (currently sesame oil). Doesn’t hurt my eyes one bit and washes off cleanly with soap.

Interesting… I’ve used Jojoba oil on cuticles and to remove lipstick but never on my eyes. Does the oil ever cloud up your eyes?
