hello saturday lychees
Have a lychee, my friend! They’re like a grape with a leathery skin and the flavor of a watermelon spiked with a peach.

Happy Saturday, my friend! If you need me, I’ll be here in my corner greedily scarfing down lychees before anyone else gets their paws on ’em.

Kidding! I’m always happy to share. 🙂 You’ll have to peel your own, though.

If Cookie Monster gets to be the monster of all cookies, I would like to be the monster of all lychees. Consequently, henceforth, from this day forward, you may refer to me by my Sesame name…”Lychee Monster,” since I can and will eat an obscene amount of lychees.

Question for you — how do you pronounce “lychee”? Do you say “LEE-chee” or “LIE-chee”? Inquiring minds want to know.

Anywho, lychees aren’t common in this part of Northern California, so whenever I see them in a store I grab as many as I can.

A buddy of mine on Instagram mentioned that when she was a kid, her mom would buy lychees in season and freeze them for later, which I think is GENIUS. I think I’ll freeze a few, but our fire season is just around the corner, which means that our power company (PG&E) will probably shut off the power in our county for a few days (possibly weeks) as part of wildfire prevention efforts, and we might lose the food in our freezer and fridge…so I think I should eat as many fresh lychees as humanly possible right now while I can. LOL.

On that note, lychees for EVERYONE!

I’m very curious about this brand out of Australia, Ere Perez.

Note to self…

What’s on deck for this weekend? What are you up to? Sending you virtual hugs.

Feels like we’re all needing a little (OK, a lot) of TLC these days.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Lychee Monster: meet Rambutan Monster 🙂 I love both and they’re both pretty available in Hawaii but I’m with you: peel ’em and eat ’em like there’s no tomorrow!
As for pronunciation, all seem to be correct and widely used (Reddit told me so), depending on if you want to go with Cantonese, British, Hawaiian, etc. pronunciations.

Oh no, “fire season.” 🙁 Be Safe during that. We’re in hurricane season now, too, and will probably start seeing more tourists. The calm and quiet in Waikiki was very nice while it lasted.

I’ve not heard of Ere Perez, looks like a clean beauty brand? I look forward to trying Uoma Beauty and Tower 28, when I’m in the market for new essentials (foundation & cream cheek color).

A huggy Saturday to you all!

Happy Saturday Karen! I love lychees but I have not gotten to the point of hoarding them just yet. I pronounce lychee LEE-chee but I have heard it both ways. Also, since you posted about Caroline Hirons, have you had a chance to check out her new book? I am reading it now and find that the info in it is good for anyone who is into skincare.

I’ve only ever had a lychee (I say lee-chee) martini and it was amazing! I didn’t know that’s what the whole fruit looked like! I would be very mad if they turned off my power and I lost all the food I had in the fridge and freezer, but I get it’s for the greater good. But how frustrating nonetheless. I think we are going to have a few people over and grill some food tonight. I have shrimp kebabs and I’m going to make a strawberry rhubarb pie!

I have no clue how to pronounce lychee! I took a nice nap with Hettie and Jiji this morning while Zack did his Zoom French class. I love when Jiji falls asleep on me, it’s like a weighted blanket but better.

Considering that it’s native to China and is written as 荔枝 and pronounced lizhi in Chinese, I’m going to go with lee-chee. (Yes, I texted my trainer who is Chinese and speaks both Mandarin and Cantonese)
I love the picture of Connor with PGR. That’s one sweet kitty!
I never wear perfume for anyone but myself. Well OK, I sometimes wear what Dear Husband likes on special occasions. But mostly I wear perfume everyday to make myself happy, calm, brave and or fierce. And yes, I’m that crazy lady who once followed another woman 3/4 the way around the grocery store because I liked her fragrance that much and I needed to be sure it was her before I asked what scent it was. BTW, she thought I was crazy when I asked.

Another vote for lee-chee. That’s closer to how my daughter-in-law–who is from Beijing–says it. Lychee is one of my favorite fruits. Yum!

As much as I love makeup and think the world would be a drabber place without it, I must say that spending more time at home has helped a lot of women (myself included) rediscover our unique and natural beauty. Gone is the pressure of having to apply a full face of makeup every day and having to keep up with all the latest trends and techniques. I think many of us have found a new ease in wearing makeup in a more relaxed way. At least, I have 🙂

Here in Germany we pronounce it Lee-chee.
That reminds me that I haven ´t eaten one for ages 😉
You can get the juice with some water at some chinese restaurants – very refreshing. Although I always drink my jasmine tea with chinese food.

I love the lychee (“lee-chee”) gummy candies. There are also these little cups that have gelatin and a piece of lychee inside. I’ve never peeled one and had it fresh, though. #goals
