FOTD: Violet Tendencies and a Shout-Out to the Early Aughts With an Icy Blue Highlight!

Do you ever start a look with a specific idea in mind, but then it turns into something completely different?! That’s what happened with this eye makeup. I fully intended to do a simple lid with a sweep of matte brown eyeshadow and the thinnest slice of purple winged liner (“Just five minutes, Karen, that’s it!”), but surprise! — somehow I ended up with several shades of purple swirling together into this violet smoke show.

I mean…there is a hint of a gradient wing happening (on the upper lash line if you look closely), so I guess I kinda stuck to the plan? HA HA HA. Eventually, at some point along this crazy makeup journey we call life, I’m just going to have to lean into my smokey eye tendencies and accept that I really don’t want to do any other type of look. ?‍♀️

Also, shout-out to the early Aughts with the shimmery, icy blue inner corner highlight. Add a satin camisole shirt, low-slung bootcut jeans and a fedora. and it’s 2002 all over again!

(You know you rocked this same look back in the day. ?)

I’m wearing a couple new Urban Decay products, by the way — the Naked Ultraviolet Palette (very easy to blend!) and the Lash Freak Mascara (tons of volume at the roots). If you have any questions about either, hit me up in the comments.

You look amazing! God the shimmery icy shadow takes you back.

I saw a picture of me wearing a TERRIBLE fedora in 2012 next to a friend (to be fair I was out in the sun and was using it to protect my scalp) and I just want to ask him why he didn’t tell me how stupid my hat looked.

I have so many terrible fedora pictures, you don’t even know! The worst is a purple and white fedora that I had in high school… It makes me laugh just thinking about it, LOL!

Omg I am living for this look. I can’t wait to get the new UD palette since purple = life

Would you at all be willing to do a tutorial on this look? It is so rad and would love to learn the ways of the Jedi makeup master ^_^

      Hi Annie,

Ya know, it’s kind of a funny thing; this look was *so* spontaneous that I don’t know if I could reverse engineer it! I’ll see if I can, and if I do, I’ll try to record something. 🙂

Haha I know what you mean. You must have been in that artistic zone. Thank you!

I SO rocked that look back then, but I don’t think icy blue ever looked so good on me.

I am so tempted by this new UD palette. But the warm colors to the left of Lucid are scaring me off. I look lousy in warm colors. I still want to find a backup of the original Naked palette. I guess you could say I’m stuck in a rut makeup wise.
This look is gorgeous on you!
Hope you and the family have a wonderful weekend.

Exactly my concerns! I’m wondering if it’s worth it to buy the palette even if I’d only use 7-8 of the shades. :thinking-face-emoji:

Love the purple eyeshadow look! How do you like the UD Ultraviolet palette? My last purchase was the Honey palette. Hope you’re having a great Friday.

Oh my gawd. I can’t believe you made me like an 80’s look. The 1980s are not my jam but this rocks my socks!

…. totally need to duplicate this…

This is a great look on you!! And it’s very timely to focus on your eyes since that’s all that most people see these days! 🙂 Does your hair grow super fast or have I just lost track of time (or a bit of both)? Your few gray strands look great and totally grown out!

Thanks, friend! I think the gray at my roots has been there for the longest time, it just really depends on the lighting. In natural light (like in these pics), they really come through.

How was your weekend? Good, I hope!
