Did you know that when a cat has a penchant for plants, they call it having a “green paw?”
Tabs didn’t just have one green paw. All of his paws were green. Horticulture was something he did on the side. In fact, he was awarded an honorary PhD in horticulture from the University of Hawaii, with an emphasis on native Hawaiian plants.
He had a soft spot for the flashiest flowers. Hibiscus and plumeria were his favorites.
He also did pretty well with orchids, which amazes me to this day. Mine have never looked as good as they did when he was around and tending to them. I sometimes wish his spirit would visit from the Rainbow Bridge and tell me what to do, because all of my orchids are on the verge of leaving this earth.

It’s time to fire up the barbecues, crack open a catnip cider, and celebrate Independence Day here in the U.S.! Back when Tabs was around, we didn’t need fireworks around here because of his fashion-forward collars.
He loved bold fashion statements and embraced the red, white and blue theme. 🙂

Beautiful! This takes me back! I lived in Hawaii 1979-1981 (graduated from Leilehua High School in 1981). My Dad was stationed at Schofield Barracks and we had a gorgeous plumeria tree right outside our back door. We also had a banana tree beside our lanai, they were tiny lil bananas but my Mom found multiple uses for them =D.
Hibiscus and plumeria are such gorgeous plants! Tabs! Still the most handsome cat around. Hope Rosie isn’t too annoyed that you were gone. Whenever we returned from a trip Nora would hiss at me first thing when I came into the house, to express her displeasure. But she’d get over it and be purring that we were finally home.

I could need some advice on orchids as well – mine have done so well over the years, but last summer they withered and now I am barely keeping them alive!
