Do You View Putting On Makeup as a Form of Self-Care?

Even just a lil’ bit of makeup always makes me feel better.

Oh yeah, 100%!

Ya know, even though I’ve become so much more comfortable with going bare faced over the last year, when I have to do something where I have to BRING IT, I feel so much better when I’m wearing a little makeup. My makeup minimum lately has been brows-lashes-lips (thanks, Jeremy Renner). If I have work meetings, then I’ll add some concealer, blush and liner if I have the time.

I know that I’m the same person with or without makeup, for sure. But I also know that I feel like I’m doing something nice for myself when I take even just 10 minutes out of my day to pause and paint my face.

How about you? Do you view putting on makeup as a form of self-care?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

For me it starts with skincare – on some evenings I just cannot bother to apply some serum or whatever on my face. I just wash it, put on a moisturizer and that‘s it. So when I apply a serum and an eye cream it feels like pampering myself…

But I have such strong feelings toward lipsticks. When I swipe it on I feel like „ok I am ready now to face the world“.
My go to make up is brows, rim my eyes with a cream shadow stick, dab a lipstick on my cheeks and swipe it on my mouth… When I have zoom calls at work it makes such a difference if I wear lipstick, because the camera washes me out and without lipstick I look sooo dull.

Of course I like to paint my nails or play with make up every now and then I do an elaborated eye look, but it does not change how I feel while lipstick somehow does…

Absolutely. I don‘t need it to feel pretty or myself, but it makes me feel as if I prioritized myself, even if it was for a short moment.

I’ve got to sat that for the past year and a half, I haven’t been wearing makeup and it’s been freeing. I have worn makeup every single day of my life since I was in middle school. I’m now 66 years old. I was even a makeup artist! I had a serious passion for the goop!
I just don’t see the point when I’ve got a big old mask covering my face.
I put on some makeup the other day just because and I felt like a clown. I wasn’t accustomed to it anymore.
I have, however; been really into skincare since the pandemic began. I’ve tried out some of those really expensive products ( La Mer, Vintner’s Daughter, etc.) I’ve Gua Sha ed, and face rolled, given myself facials and dry brushed. I’ve got to say….I still look 66. 😒 but it’s been something to do while locked down.

Depends on the day, but usually, yes. If I’m heading out it’s my time to center myself before conquering the world.

Yes, I do think it’s self care. My problem is my very uneven complexion and redness and when I fix that and catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror during the day it makes me feel WAY better about myself. I feel so much more cheerful and attractive and positive when I do that.

I think of it as more of a public service, so I don’t scare random people out in public. HAHA! Kidding. I just feel like I look more put together/more awake with some me-but-better makeup. And since I love athleisure clothing and wash-and-go hair, it helps to let people know I didn’t just roll out of bed. 😉

I love this question! I consider it self care that feels creative even though I usually do the same makeup every day. During the pandemic I got really into skincare and have found a routine that feels luxurious AND works! But when I put my makeup on before work meetings it’s just for fun and that’s self care too. It also just helps me relax and transition to mtg mode!
