Skin Care Slugging With CeraVe, Dry Shampoo Recall, Cat DNA Tests and a New Calendar!

December 23rd, 2021 by Karen 15 Comments

YES

You know those dollar bins that greet you right as you walk into Target? Right by the carts and hand sanitizer? It’s the place to be if you want to get sucked into buying ALL THE THINGS you never knew you needed. Case in pint, this “Shitt’s Creek” 2022 calendar!

I’m old school in that I like to write my project due dates onto a physical calendar; things sink in more when I put a pen to paper for some reason.

Anyway, it’s a shout-out to one of my favorite feel-good shows (I’ve watched the entire series twice), and possibly the best thing I bought at Target all year!

Each page has a scene from the show and a funny quote. This one’s my favorite…

I love this look on Alexis, btw
How many episodes do you remember?

Last night, I accidentally fell into a rabbit hole that involves — wait for it! — cat DNA testing. You read that correctly.

Did you know that such a thing existed? I had no idea.

Anyway, you swab your cat’s mouth (can you imagine?) and then send the saliva to a lab. They’ll then run several DNA tests so you can discover genetic info about your kitty friend’s lineage and whatnot.

The reason why I ended up even contemplating this is because of the Lynx tips on Rosie’s ears. I’ve always wondered where they came from.

Note the ear tips, please

I have a sneaking suspicion that Rosie would claw my eyes out if I tried to swab the inside of her cheek for the purposes of deoxyribonucleic acid testing, so I probably won’t do it, but FYI, the technology exists, and it’s out there!

OK, so I can sneak in some beauty things into our chat today, FYI, if you’re a dry shampoo enthusiast, you might want to see if your go-to is on this list as the FDA recently recalled several drugstore dry shampoos. Please check your stash ASAP!

I haven’t used dry shampoo in years because I now wash my hair every day; I can no longer handle feeling a thick layer of sweat after I work out on my scalp. Are you an every day hair washer, too?

Another beauty-related item: raise your paw if your face has skin been exceptionally dry! I’ve resorted to slathering CeraVe healing ointment all over my lips and around the bottom half of my face at night before I go to bed.

I can’t remember where I read or saw this, but when you sleep your skin loses a lot of water, and applying a thick, protective product like CeraVe Healing ointment helps. I’ve been doing this for the past two weeks for the past few nights, and my skin, especially at the corners of my mouth, seems to be less crabby.

The process, by the way, is called slugging, and you can do it with any thick, occlusive product like Vaseline.

How’s it going on your end of the keyboard? Two more sleeps until, Christmas, woo hoo!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

You may also want to try hydrocortisone cream for the mouth corner–my dermatologist told me that one of the lovely side effects of aging are Marionette lines. Even with mild ones, gravity takes hold and causes moisture to build in the corners of your mouth; hence the dryness and irritation. He recommended using hydrocortisone cream, and it has helped me!

Where did you get the calendar from ?
    It is so cool.

Vaseline not recommended, it has petroleum, unless it is free of that horrible product.

Love the photo where you spray your hair.

    Hi,
Just curious how you keep the ointment from getting all over your pillow instead of staying on your skin?

Guess what!! I do wash my hair every day. I kind of have hair on the oilier side, and my hair doesn’t look or feel right if I don’t shampoo it. And, I have been waking up with flaky skin on my chin recently. In the summer, my skin is definitely oilier, but I notice lately, that it’s getting drier. I think it has to do with me going through menopause, and a late one at that. I’m turning 55 in February. I also notice that after I wash my face, it feels pretty dry. It didn’t used to be that way, but I’m getting older. I just have to put moisturizer on immediately after cleansing.

I apply moisturizer right after I get out of the shower, too. I also layer mine on!

I love slugging! It saved my skin, Vaseline is my go to, I love it.

I kinda want to do that kitty DNA test, I have a lot of cats, eight, and I’d love to know what they are. I have a friend that adopted a pug mix dog, he did the DNA test and founds out she’s half pug and half pit Bull. Interesting looking dog, sweet as pie!

I wash my hair every other day (and time that with my workouts – one day is HIIT and one day something slow, so it fits), but still that did eliminate the need for dry shampoo here as well.

I wash my hair every day, I have fine oily hair, and unless I physically wash it, it goes limp and flat. Dry shampoo just doesn’t cut it, it will take away the shine, but doesn’t give back the bounce that actually washing it does.

I have oily skin and hair and for years I was training (trying, no results) my hair. Mostly washing every second day, but stretching it to two or three more days if possible. Six when I was sick once (gross). I’ve since stopped and stick with every other day usually but have no issues with two days in a row now. My hair type wasn’t seeing results that others talked about (dry, thicker hair, I’m guessing) because my hair is greasy the next day, no matter what method, no matter what product. And I love the look and feeling of freshly washed, blow dried hair! I’m also shampooing twice each time, instead of only once. It’s funny how other women made me feel like I was doing something wrong by washing daily (over five years ago) and now it’s normal to just do what works for you!
