Sunscreen Shout-Out! Black Girl Sunscreen Kids SPF 50

May 31st, 2022 by Karen 8 Comments

Good morning, friend! Right before I sat down at my computer I slathered myself with my new favorite sunscreen, Black Girl Sunscreen Kids SPF 50. If you find yourself constantly annoyed by greasy, sticky, sunscreens that take forever to rub into your skin and leave a gray cast behind, then you’ll need to grab a tube ASAP.

It’s a chemical sunscreen with the following actives: avobenzone 3%, homosalate 15% and octisalate 5%. It doesn’t have parabens, fragrances, silicones or aluminum, and it’s cruelty-free.

I picked up at tube at Target for $9.99, so it’s pretty affordable and easy to find, although I do wish the 3-ounce bottle was a little bigger.

Anywho, it’s one of the most comfortable sunscreens I’ve worn, hands down. It’s not sticky, sinks in fast and doesn’t have an overly obnoxious sunscreen scent. Connor and I wore it last weekend to an outdoor festival in our town, and she didn’t protest as much as she usually does when I put sunscreen on her, LOL!

The festival was held by the local Greek Orthodox Church, and we specifically went to watch a dance performance by the kids dance troupe. They performed traditional dances from the island of Crete.

I loved seeing their sweet faces as they danced, and the details on their costumes were so intricate.

I hope you had a nice long and relaxing weekend!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. If you happen to have any sunscreens that you’ve tried lately and liked, please let me know. I’m always on the hunt!

I’ve heard so many good things about this brand of sunscreen. Have you tried any Korean or Japanese sunscreens? I’m obsessed with Beauty of Joseon’s sunscreen and the CANMAKE Mermaid whatever sunscreen in clear. I put SO many globs of sunscreen on my face and it just makes me look glowy. I’ve also tried a couple on my body and they’re so much better than our drugstore sunscreens, which makes me so mad!

Hi, SJ! I’ve heard of the Beauty of Joseon sunscreen but the CANMAKE one is new to me. Adding to my list! BTW Where do you buy your sunscreens? I’ve heard of Stylevana and Yes Style. I haven’t tried either of those, though.

I’ve used YesStyle a couple times! It has been a fine experience, and a lot of people have referral codes to take some money off. Stylevana does too, but I haven’t bought from them before. I like using domestic stores though, Glowie Co usually and I’ve just ordered from oo35mm recently and it went great!

I’ve been using Super Goop Glow 50 sunscreen. It’s a bit too much glow for my combo skin. Going to check this one out soon.

Hi Denise! This one has a lovely demi-matte finish. I hope you like it. 🙂

Love the pictures from the festival!

We were at an amusement park Monday and I was on my sun protection game – hat, swim cover-up over my tank top and shorts, and a ton of sunscreen every 1.5 to 2 hours (Chalky stuff – Coppertone Mineral Sport – it’s not cosmetically elegant but it works for my skin. I often use it on my face too but I used Clinique Pep Start SPF 50 on my face because it’s easier to reapply with no mirror.) I have a full body skin check at the derm in a few weeks, gotta keep my skin in good shape.

Black Girl Sunscreen Kids is my current go to as well. It ticks all my boxes and my older kid (who has some sensory issues with most skincare products) is also a big fan. And let me tell you, it’s a relief. That child’s skin is on par with white-out. She lobsters in about 5 minutes flat in the sun.

I was able to use about everything until I developed czema issues in my 60s after a bad sepsis infection pissed off my immune system. I find myself reactive to many “sensitive skin” sunscreens. What I use now with no irritation. Badger Adventure Sport Mineral SPF50 and it’s only got a few ingredients. Uncoated Zinc Oxide 25%. Organic Sunflower Oil, Organic Beeswax, Sunflower Vitamin E. Though you can get a similar formulation in a tube, the SPF 50 comes in a tin which is handy for the purse. I just scape out a little with those little cosmetic spatulas which I keep in a baggie in my tote, rub between the fingers to liquefy, and apply. It’s about the only economical sunscreen that doesn’t make me itch and it works on the grandkids if they’re out in the sun a long time.
