Saturday Surfing, November 12, 2022!

November 12th, 2022 by Karen 4 Comments

Happy Saturday!

Well, hi there Caturday! It’s good to see ya.

Yes, that’s me next to a rug. I finally bought one for the dining room. Please excuse the crazy hair! It felt like I was wrestling an alligator when I was getting it into my car because surprise — rugs are freakin’ heavy! OH MY GOSH. I had no idea. Also, it’s very hard to drive with a rug next to your head for some reason. I don’t know why, but it just is.

In order to prep for the purchase of the rug, of course I had to do another Google Slideshow, LOL!

Did you know there’s all kinds of rules involving selecting the correct rug for your table? Seriously, why don’t they teach people this stuff in school? One day you’re dancing until 3 a.m. at the club and totally carefree, and the next you’re married with a kid, and you have to buy a rug for the dining room and have absolutely know clue.

Anywho! This is the rug I bought. I didn’t want to spend too much on a rug in a high traffic area, and I also wanted to be able to return it easily in case it didn’t work out. I also wanted to touch and smell it first because apparently stinky rugs are totally a thing. Again, who knew? I certainly didn’t.

Enough about my home decorating woes. What are you up to this weekend?

This week’s reading

  • Three derms weigh in on products that are allegedly “Botox in a bottle.”
  • Which is better — ceramides or hyaluronic acid?
  • Why you should care about repairing your skin barrier and how to do it.
  • Exosome therapy is a thing.
  • So is “gray blending.”
  • Designing a perfume bottle that’s just as covetable as the scent inside is important to perfume houses.
  • Speaking of fragrance, here are eight books about perfumery.

Side note: I’ve read “The Bear and the Nightingale,” and it is indeed AMAZING.

Talk to me.

My weekend plans include binge-watching the new season.

I’m taking notes!

Miss Jackson if you’re nasty.

Let’s go!

That’s a lot of perfume.

On the weekend playlist.

Have a great rest of your weekend. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

OK, so please explain how the rug is supposed to fit under your dining table. Please? Because I have no clue, so of course I do not have a rug under my dining room table and the hardwood is becoming scratched up.
Also that’s a great rug you got. Yes, rugs are heavy. And a smelly rug is the worst. They can smell like dirty, wet dog. Ugh.
So I once wanted Van Cleef & Arpels “Midnight in Paris” even though the scent isn’t my jam, just for the beautiful blue bottle with constellations on it. Lol.
I can’t wait til Dear Daughter comes home for the holidays, we agreed we’d watch “The Crown” together.

OK, this is what I found online:

You need 18 to 24 inches on each side so you and your guests can slide chairs out without worrying about falling off the edge of the rug. If your rug is too small, chairs can still scratch the floor, get tangled in the edge of the rug, and cause discomfort, embarrassment, and frustration when trying to slide the chair back in place.

To determine the size of rug you need, first measure your table. Then add 36 to 48 inches to each measurement. Be sure to include any extra table leaves in your figure because you want your new rug to accommodate the entire length of your table. In most cases, an 8×10 or 9×12 rug will fit your area and leave plenty of room for your chairs. As you consider your options and the best measurements for your space, take into account any sideboards or china cabinets in the room. Your new rug should not extend beneath those dining room pieces.

P.S. I just started season five of “The Crown!”

Wow! Thanks for this. I’m not sure why I never thought of trying to find info on rug sizes online. I’ve always gone to Target for entry way rugs. No matter how hard I try to get everyone to take their shoes off at the front door the entry carpet always starts to look a bit dingy. Not too mention it was Nora’s favorite place to barf and Nibbler likes the texture for a scratching pad.
Ohh! How is “The Crown” so far? I hope it’s as good as the previous seasons. DD comes to visit next Saturday. (Gosh, that is so weird to say. Visit. But I have to be realistic that at her age, she’s probably not gonna live with us ever again, so right now Chicago is her home.)

I don’t think I have ever had to purchase a rug before, when I moved out my parents set me up with some of our old ones and they got me through all moves until now.

The Crown is on my to watch list as well, but I first need to finish Sandman – I don’t think mixing these two would be a good idea.
