Beauty Q of the Day: Have You Ever Done a Skincare Regimen on a Plane?

July 12th, 2023 by Karen 10 Comments

Have you ever done a skincare regimen on a plane?

Years ago, I watched a Lisa Eldridge video about the skincare regimen she does when she takes long flights. There’s multiple steps involved, including removing makeup, a face mask, various creams and toners and whatnot. The whole process is pretty intense, but it seems like it would be lovely and comforting, especially on a very long flight.

I’ve always wondered, though, if anyone else has actually done this on a plane ride.

If you have, RESPECT!

I’ve always wanted to do this but haven’t had the guts to actually do the whole kit and caboodle on the plane. I’m not shy at all, but I’m kinda shy about doing skincare in front of strangers. I don’t know; it seems kinda intimate? Maybe that’s just me. LOL!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

On a 23 hour flight from Singapore to SanFrancisco, the most I did was to use facial wipes! And moisturizer.

As a former airline captain, I do have to warn anyone about using anything heavily fragranced in such a regime. Air in the cabin is mostly recirculated, and if there is anything really strong or chemical in smell, the pilots usually get a noseful first. I remember MANY years when one of the 19-seat commuter planes of my employer had to make an emergency landing when someone used nail polish remover inflight and the fumes made the pilots sick. I doubt you could bring that on board now, as it’s hazmat, but just something to think about.

I remember getting on a flight once where someone was polishing their nails. Don’t know how many years ago that was. But I do remember calling over a flight attendant and asking them if they could put the kabosh on that. They were happy to ask that person to cease the polishing right away.
It’s just ridiculous that people don’t consider how their actions might affect (or is it effect) other people.

Personally, I would never do a skincare regimen in my seat. To me that’s akin to clipping your nails, etc. On flights overseas, I have gotten up before landing and in the toilet cleansed my face, brushed my teeth, applied moisturizer and brushed, combed my hair. And I would never apply a sheet mask that needs to sit for 10 minutes in the loo, because I would be mindful that other folks on the plane need to use the restrooms, too. The most I would do in my seat is apply moisturizer, lip balm and hand cream.

    Hi Karen!
Thanks for reminding me of this video by Lisa Eldridge! It actually sent me down a, very pleasant, rabbit hole of binging her old videos on YouTube. I’m down with the bloody Covid (to quote Anthony from the second season of Just Like That, it’s very off-trend of me) and I’m too weak and feverish to do aything else really…Anyways, I think I’d be only tempted to try such a routine in Business class. Alas, I only travel with low cost European airlines where there’s hardly any room for your legs, not to mention a stash of face masks ha ha. Howevet, I always use lots of lip balm and hand cream on the plane. I might consider applying some eye cream next time…

Yes, based on Lisa’s. I fly business or first internationally so not usually sitting next to anyone. So relaxing at the start of a 13 hour flight from Australia to the USA

Before 9/11 I’d do my nails on the airplane. Back when they allowed liquids, nail polish and even small bottle of acetone. Damn terrorists.
