3 Things Beauty Lovers Do

September 13th, 2023 by Karen 9 Comments

1. They revel in getting a great deal

Yesterday I practically danced out of Ulta because I paid $5.97 for an $83 Murad Serum!

A little backstory: Ulta is in the midst of their awesome 21 Days of Beauty sale. Every day for 21 days, they feature a handful of different products on sale that are usually half off!

One of yesterday’s products was Murad Environmental Shield Rapid Dark Spot Correcting Serum, a glycolic and tranexamic acid serum for fading hyperpigmentation, which I’ve been wanting to try forever.

A 1-ounce bottle is usually $83 (!), but yesterday it was on sale for 50% off, so you could snag one for the sweet price of $41.50.

But guess what? I got an even bigger deal by cashing in $36 in Ulta points.

All in all, I ended up paying a mere $5.50 for my bottle, plus 47 cents for tax.

Heck, I’m still happy about it and dancing in my chair as I type this, LOL!

2. They find like-minded beauty lovers in the most unexpected places

So, I’ve had a couple of doctor’s appointments this week to check on some things, and you know me. I try so hard to be strong and tough on the outside, but inside, I’m an emotionally mushy meatball and end up crying at the drop of a hat.

Anyway, I was at the OB/GYN getting some tests done on Monday and started getting weepy – nervous tears, purr usual – when the doctor said, “Hey now, if you cry, you’ll mess up your beautiful makeup.”

I ended up laughing because I felt so totally seen! That morning, I purposefully wore sleek cat eyeliner and a few cool-toned shadows on my lids thinking that nice eye makeup on would help me to avoid any tears.

I mentioned this to the doctor and she started laughing, too, and she said that it sounded like something she’d do as well. It lightened the mood significantly, and we both got a good chuckle.

3. They can talk about makeup even when things get weird

Speaking of makeup bringing people together, in the same conversation, I just happened to be wearing a hospital gown and not much else. Needless to say, I felt a little vulnerable.

It got less weird though, when the doctor mentioned that she wanted to try Selena Gomez’s Rare Beauty line, and the nurse and I immediately jumped in to tell her that it was really good and what things she should buy.

Funny how talking about beauty can make even the most awkward moments a little easier to bear.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

    Karen,

I hope all is well with your medical tests. It’s okay to be scared and worried. I am the worst at using google and scaring myself into a frenzy before a doctor appointment or medical test.

I love the Ulta 21 Day sales. I bought my Benefit eyebrow pencil because I love it…but I refuse to pay full price. I bought the Urban Decay Hydromaniac because I have always wanted to try it (I bought it from Sephora’s matching sale). And I am hoping that the Urban Decay Mystery item this Friday is eyeliners so I can stock up.

I agree that Rare Beauty has some great items. I love the mascara and blushes. I usually don’t buy into the celebrity makeup brands…but Rare Beauty is affordable and has some great products.

Thank you Mandy. I just got back from another test and am trying to stay positive.

You’re like the upteenth person I’ve heard rave about the Rare Beauty mascara! I think I need to try it ASAP. 😀

I totally understand this nervous feeling around doctor visits. I can be teary and I get that pit in my stomach. It sounds like you handled it great! Having supportive doctors and nurses is so important.

What an amazing Ulta deal! I saw they were doing 21 days of beauty and then forgot to check back in. I might have a peak at the schedule although I really don’t need anything right now.

    Hugs to you!

Other than Dear Daughter who is living 2,100 miles away, I have no one in person who loves makeup the way I do. Thank goodness for this on-line community!
That’s an awesome deal on the Murad serum!! Please keep us posted on how you like it, or not.
I wish there was an Ulta near me. On the other hand maybe it’s a good idea that I don’t have one near me considering there are two Sephoras within walking distance.

I am still doing a happy dance about my $6 serum, LOL! 😀 I put it on for the first time this morning and it seems to play well with all my other skin care items and with makeup as well! If it’s magic, I’ll let you know.

I hope everything turns out okay with your tests. I’ve come to loathe anything doctor-related, probably because I have so many. Sending positive vibes your way!

I nearly did a dance yesterday in Target when I saw that their new Ulta in Target was finally open. And our Sephora in Kohl’s is open now, too. So happy that I can get my beauty products without making a special trip or having to go in the mall. (Teenaged me is so shocked and appalled at that statement, lol.)

    Hi Karen,
I’m so sorry that you are experiencing the agony of waiting on test results. I know what a punch in the gut it can be to have to wait to know what may or may not be your cards dealt for the future. I wish I could give you a hug so just know I am sending a virtual one your way! The only advice I can give that helped me was when I made myself identify each emotion as it came my way so that I could try to stay in the present moment. And it helped me when I took stock in the small things, like the comfort of my sheets and my husband’s smile. Being in nature seemed to help me then too. Everyone has their own coping mechanisms but these are the ones that helped me the most, so hoping they will help you. God bless & sending prayers your way.
