Ideas for the NARS Kalahari Eye Duo?

September 9th, 2009 by Karen 17 Comments

NARS Kalahari ($32) is a powder eyeshadow duo from their permanent line.

You get a shimmery taupe (right) and a shimmery golden brown (left). How would you work it?

As singles – don’t really see these two working together as the typical duo (one all-over lid color and one crease color).

Ohhh so pretty I’d use the taupe for lid and the darker brown for crease/outer v and I’d add ricepaper e/s for browbone I love ricepaper I think it goes well with neutrals and greens. I think you could do one helluva brown smokey eye!!

I agree with Priscilla… the only thing I might change up is to add a lighter color on the inner 1/3 of the eyelid for a more neutral look… maybe MAC Grand Entrance or another soft champagne color :). I do love a smoky eye, though… especially with taupe colors! 🙂

I’m going to be really obvious and say the golden shade for lid, taupe for the crease and outer v. Line upper lashline with liquid or cream black eyeliner giving it a tiny cat eye flick. Line lower lid with a black eyeliner pencil and a smudge it a bit. Add two or three coats of volumizing black mascara, a little pink on the cheeks and a peachy-pink lip (or nymphette). Put on a white button-down shirt, black pencil skirt, black pumps, do a little hair curling and a few gold or silver bangles and Poof! Catwoman for the world!

I really like typing out Poof! for some reason. It’s fun.

P.S. Don’t forget the berry nails. I’m loving Sally Hansen’s Salon Nail Lacquer in Beet Stain.

Too warm for my pinky toned fair skin! I think I’d look like a zombie. 🙁

      Great ideas, ladies!

      Keep ’em coming…

I still have the pan sitting here on my desk. Maybe I’ll try a couple of these ideas on my afternoon break.

Does anybody else get a Satin Taupe vibe from the taupe shade?

    Katherine,

You’d be surprised. I have the same kind of skin tone (pink/blue vampire pale) and some of those darker tones look absolutely beautiful on very fair skin. I have a color called coppery brown (dark brown with copper flecks) and I love how it looks as a crease color on me.

      Hi Kate & Zena,

Vampire pale is so cool … we need to get you some fangs, ASAP, so you can join the cast of True Blood. 🙂

LOL Karen! As long as they didn’t film me under fluorescent lighting. I look tanner under fluorescents for some reason. Does it help that I have a bit of my Texan accent left?

      Hi Kate & Zena,

Totally… once you get in with the vamps you can introduce us to Vampire Bill and Vampire Eric. Hopefully they won’t want to eat us. Spare Tabs, please!!!

looooove this shadow! i’ve had it for about two months now and use the taupe as a base all the way up to the brow, then cover lid with Benefit’s cream shadow in Birthday Suit and finally utilize the golden brown as a crease shadow and along the lash line.

Do I look like someone who would eat a poor little kitty like Tabs? I’m having enough problems trying to get a rough draft done for tomorrow for class to want to bother with a troublesome kitty. I’ll just print out the whopping one and 1/4 page and ask the teacher for help tomorrow.

I think I’d be a vegan vampire. The only blood I can ever tolerate seeing is my own. I get grossed out when other people are bleeding and hand them a band-aid whether they want it or not (I keep an arsenal of band-aids in my purse due to my clumsy habits). I’d find a way to eat only human food and live.

I own this! The shadow on the left though looks waayyyy different in real life. Much paler and not orange at all! Maybe it’s my computer though making it look odd…

I wear the left color on the lid and the purple color on the crease. I love it!
